Verdi Spumante Is The Perfect Gift For Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day is just around the corner and I hope you are looking for that perfect gift for mom. So if you haven’t thought about what you’re going to do, now is the time to start thinking about how to make it special. Diamonds? Sure, but in this economy, probably not realistic. Brunch? Perhaps, but it’s been done. Champagne? On the right track, as long as it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg for the label.

With everything going on, the best gift may be something small that brings the family and loved ones together. One perfect way to celebrate this year is to give your favorite mother a toast with a bit of Italian Sparkling Fun – or a Verdi Spumante. This is a sparkling Italian wine that makes it fun and tasty to commemorate mothers – without the expense of a French champagne. You can use it to either tip back a glass or make a sweet dessert dish with your favorite mother. Either way you go, it’s probably the best way to share a bit of Sparkling Italian Fun with the Mom you love.

Best of all, because Verdi Spumante comes in small bottles that can be personalized with a hang-tag, it also makes a great and easy present that shows you care.

Below are two great Verdi recipes to make for mother’s day:

Verdi Mimosa Recipe

• Verdi (1 bottle)

• Orange Juice (1 carton)

Mixing Instructions:

Fill half of a champagne flute with chilled Verdi and top off with chilled orange juice, gently stir. For added flare, slice up a strawberry to decorate the rim of each flute. Enjoy!

Zabaglione (Shown Above)

• 1 cup Verdi

• ¾ cup powdered sugar

• 5 large egg yolks

• 2 tablespoons light corn syrup

• 6 tablespoons chilled whipping cream

Fruit Compote

• 2 large oranges

• ½ small pineapple, peeled, cored [or 1 can of pineapple, drained]

• 1 basket strawberries, hulled, quartered

• 2 kiwis, peeled and diced

• 1 pear, peeled, cored, and diced

• 6 tablespoons chilled Verdi

• 6 whole strawberries

Mix the Zabaglione

Whisk Verdi, sugar, yolks and corn syrup in large metal bowl to blend them together. Set the bowl over a saucepan of simmering water, but do not allow the bottom of the bowl to touch the water. Now the fun part – whisk the zabaglione mixture constantly until it has tripled in volume and thickens into a sauce [a candy thermometer should register 160°F]. This should take about 10 minutes. Remove from over water. Now, beat the zabaglione until it is completely cool, or about 5 minutes.

Beat cream to soft peaks in medium bowl. Fold cream into cooled zabaglione. Chill until ready to use.

Combine the fruit compote:

Mix all of the fruit into a bowl with the chilled Verdi and allow it to marinate.

Serve :

Spoon the fruit into 6 stemmed glasses. Top fruit with zabaglione, and garnish each serving with whole one of the strawberries and 1 tablespoon of the reserved fruit juice and Verdi.

Was your Valentine’s Day Commercial or Unconventional?

What did you do/get for Valentine’s Day? Did you get flowers that will die in a few days or chocolates that are going to add inches to your waistline? I know, you got another wallet picked out by a salesperson.

Caravan Opinion Research conducted a telephone survey of 1000 Americans and revealed that 2/3 of them prefer thoughtful gestures like a romantic dinner date or practical gifts like a Dyson vacuum over diamonds and spa treatments.

Rob and I don’t really exchange gifts; we do cards and usually a special meal out. This year we went to a local restaurant for their superb crabcakes for me and prime rib for him.. For us spending a bit of quality ALONE time together is what’s important for Valentine’s Day not dropping a small fortune just for the sake of saying Happy Valentine’s Day. Don’t get me wrong diamonds are awesome and I’m not going to turn them down but I prefer something that has some thought or meaning behind it.

Next year take a moment to think about what is important about Valentine’s Day. Celebrate those that you love and love you back with something from the heart and the head not from what society tells you is acceptable gift-giving.

Valentine’s Day Party-Wilton Cupcake Theme

Cookies, cakes and candies Oh My! Who doesn’t love at least one of the things I mentioned? In our house we love cupcakes. There needs to be no special occasion or special visitors to have adorable cupcakes but what a great little surprise to give to someone you love.

I’ve become a better baker over the last couple years with the help of Wilton. With an extensive selection of high quality kitchen and baking supplies and ingredients Wilton helps everyday cooks become masters in their own homes. For Shae’s 1st birthday I tackled the giant cupcake, it was so cute. I’ve worked on a few other baking projects and have been pleased with everything I’ve tried from Wilton from their baking sheets to pastry bag to decorative cupcake liners.

I recently received a special gift from Wilton; Flower Power and Teddy Bear Silicon baking cups. What I love about these is I can easily fit a dozen cups on a baking sheet and place them into the oven, no more cumbersome cupcake tins. And the cups are so cute I frost and serve the cupcakes still inside. It’s a special touch to an already special treat. The directions say that they are dishwasher safe but mine didn’t come clean that way. I used a bottle brush and everything was fine.

Wilton Enterprises offers the industry´s most comprehensive and innovative selection of baking, cake decorating, candy making, cookie making, wedding, baby, party, seasonal and kitchen products. These products are designed to make it easy for anyone to enjoy the thrill of serving something special and utilizing unique style and design while doing it.

Inspire Someone with Successories DYI

What do you get for the person that doesn’t need a thing? My answer is to go the personalized route. My father is the perfect example of this person. He buys what he wants throughout the year so when the holiday rolls around all my ideas are scratched off because they are already on his kitchen counters or hanging in the closet.

Successories has been the leader in inspirational and motivational products for 25 years and are proud to introduce their most innovative and inspirational product line to date: Design Your Inspiration. It gives complete creative control to the customer. In just a few easy steps, anyone can create unique and inspiring personalized framed art. Choose from dozens of cute, colorful and thought-provoking imagery to create a customized present for parents, kids, grandparents, co-workers, employees, friends – anyone!

This year Successories DYI came to the rescue with the chance to customize a piece of artwork that would be perfect for the relationship between me and my dad. We’ve been through many struggles over the years; as a family we’ve had to climb many mountains to get to where we are. I was able to choose this picture as a representation of his climb to success in not only business but as the center of our family. I thought this picture along with the quote I chose would be a great addition to his office plus a reminder of how I feel about him.

The process is so simple. Select the image that suits the situation, customize it with a saying from their library or use something significant to you, personalize it with a note and finish off with the right frame and mat. No more pre-made pictures with sayings that don’t fit. Produce the perfect moment with the right photo and right adage.

It may be too late to order for the holidays this year but DYI is perfect for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and Graduations. Inspire someone today.

Where can you shop to get something for everyone. I know I can always count on T.J. Maxx and Marshalls for not only a great selection of everything but also prices better than the department stores.

The average family is planning on spending $682 this holiday season (according to the National Retail Federation) on gifts for everyone on their list – 3.2% less than last year – so with price and value at the top of everyone’s gift-giving check list, it’s essential to look for ways to maximize Holiday budgets this year. I’m getting the chance to do some last minute shopping with a $25 Gift Card sent to us from T.J. Maxx & Marshalls. Our #1 tradition every year is getting the kids a new ornament. I’m sure we are going to find a huge selection of not just ornaments but enough holiday décor to please every style.

T.J. Maxx and Marshalls is hosting a great contest to help get everyone in the holiday spirit — “Carol-oke!” One lucky person will win a $5,000 shopping spree and 15 people will win $100 Gift Cards just for singing their favorite Holiday Carol! The contest launched on November 30 on YouTube’s specially-created “Caroling Channel,” www.youtube.com/jointhecarolers. There, you can select from one of three carols, create your own “Carol-oke” video and upload for entry into the contest. Additionally, for each off-price “Carol-oke” video that is uploaded, a charity donation will be made.

I’m trying to teach one of the songs to Shaun to get them on video because no one wants to hear me sing. It may not be the best video but should definitely be fun to watch.

Whether it’s the perfect New Year’s Eve party dress or warm snow boots Flit.com can help narrow your search and get the best deal.

Klutz Encyclopedia of Immaturity Recap

Gift giving for teenagers is hard. Sabreena’s wishlist is tiny: art supplies, earbugs, zip up hoodie, iTunes GC, THAT’S IT. So we got her that stuff and some others but I recently received something I know she is going to love; The Encyclopedia of Immaturity Volume 2 from Klutz.

This book is filled with funny stories, goofy tricks and how-to lessons on the most unnecessary skills anyone would need to know. This is right up her alley as she would just love to go to school and show of to her friends how to take off your underpants without taking off your pants or how to slip on a banana.

When the Editors and Klutz published The Encyclopedia of Immaturity in 2007, we knew it would make a great gift for someone’s nephew. And, sure enough, people gave it to their nephews — but also to their grandparents, brothers-in-law and accountants. Soon we were flooded with letters, e-mails and calls sharing one common theme — “”More! More! More!”

So here’s a second helping of skills, activities, and secret knowledge — suitable only for those whose maturity stopped developing around the age of 12. In addition to thought-provoking topics like What We Talk About When We Talk About Wedgies, the book includes detailed directions for how to: fake a cold, slide down a banister, balance a ping pong ball on your nose, send a toiletgram, throw a sloshie, and more. It’s all new and all hopelessly goofy.

For years we’ve felt like the only kids at the grown-up table. Now it turns out the world is populated by a lot more people who are lot less mature than they look. Well, duh!

LookWhatMomFound…and Dad too! readers are getting the chance to win BOTH volumes of the Encyclopedia of Immaturity from Klutz. Tell me who this would be a great gift for.
