Inappropriate Halloween Costumes for Kids

As a parent we have to make smart decisions for our kids. Have you ever looked at someone’s child and wondered why they were eating that particular snack, playing a certain game or behaving in that manner. Halloween costumes are no better. Over the years I’ve seen some of the most inappropriate costumes on children and wonder what kind of example they are setting. What happened to the days of cartoon characters, superheros and cute furry animals.

It’s Costume Time

It took many hours of intense thought and investigation but the decision has been made; the kids costumes are decided.
boys-kids-red-black-ninja-master-costumeI implored Shaun to NOT pick a costume that had a mask. We’ve done that in the past and it always ends with the mask in the bag because he can’t see well or it’s too hot. This year he chose a Ninja Master Costume. While it does has a mask it’s a half mask that shouldn’t inhibit his sight. The costume comes complete with shirt, pants, hood, leg guards, arm guards and over vest. The sword isn’t included but that is fine with me because I always end up carrying the accessories. Shaun is done, now it’s time to work on Shae.

Costume shopping this year can be easy with Wholesale Halloween Costumes. Whether you are buying 1 or 10 the shipping is fast and cheap. Up the cost $1 and get expedited shipping and delivery within 5 days. There is still plenty of time to order and receive your costume before Halloween.

A good tip is to check out the sale section and accessories section to get great deals on year round dress up supplies and costumes.

I found this ultra cute fairy costume for less than $20 and this Movie Clapper Board for less than $10. You don’t only have to buy costumes for Halloween,; these would be perfect for the kids when they put on shows in the house for rainy day entertainment.

If the choice is a Disney Princess costume, Green Lantern Costume or any other of the 100’s of selections you are bound to find just want the kids want at prices you can agree on. Have a safe and happy Halloween.

My Kids Love Halloween

So last night was Halloween and my kids love this day and have been excited about it for a while.  Actually what kid wouldn’t love this day. This is the only day where you can go to other peoples houses that you don’t know and ask for free candy.  Sounds like a win win to me for any kid.

Shae was Velma and she looked so good and Shaun was a soldier and he looked awesome as well.  We did a little Trick or Treating and I think the kids did pretty well but not as well in years past.  I am assuming it had something to do with the economy but who knows.  I remember in years past most houses would give out candy but not anymore.  This year I would say maybe 1-10 houses were giving out candy.

All in all it was a pretty good Halloween.  A little chilly but still a great night.

Getting Ready For Halloween

Halloween will be here in about two and a half weeks and we haven’t even gotten our Halloween candy but we do have the kids’ costumes. Our oldest Sabreena didn’t go trick or treating last year and isn’t going this year so I guess her trick or treating run has come to an end. I guess it is good that we still have two more to get candy for us, I mean for them. Shae is obsessed with Scooby Doo so she will be dressing as Velma this year and Shaun is dressing like a soldier. Both of them look so authentic they look like the real thing.

Halloween falls on a Sunday this year which is good because we don’t have to worry about homework before we head out but we do need to make sure we aren’t out to late since they have school the next day. This will be our first Halloween back in Delaware after a three year break but this year we are planning on hanging with Melinda’s brother, wife and our little one year old niece on Halloween. They live in a nice single family home community where there are a lot of houses and they are not spread to far apart so the kids are going to be in business. Typically our Halloween dinner consists of pizza we order since it is fast and there is no mess to clean up and allows us to get out in the neighborhood with the kids to start collecting candy. I would assume that pizza for dinner will be the plan again for this year.
Here are a few tips I have to TRY to make your Halloween night a little easier.
  • Plan on an easy dinner that you either order or make (you don’t want to spend a lot of time making dinner when you could be having a great time with your kid/kids trick or treating)
  • Dress the kids warm under their costume (nothing worse than getting 2-3 blocks from home only to have the kids complain they are cold)
  • Bring flashlights or get glow sticks so you and your kids are easy to spot in the dark (We picked up some glow in the dark necklaces from the Dollar Store last week for the kids to wear Halloween night)
  • If you have young ones like I do bring the stroller or wagon (at some point they are going to get tired of walking and are going to want to either sit or be carried)
  • Bring a back up candy bag (I do this just in case the bag becomes to full. Nothing worse than all of your kids’ hard work falling to the ground)

Enjoy your Halloween but be sure to be safe and have fun!!!

Do you have any Halloween tip to share? I would love to hear them.

Handmade Halloween

I’m crafty but also really short on time so I leave the handmade goodness to the experts at Etsy. If you’re still looking for awesome Halloween costumes and décor stop by and see what these cool shops have to offer

Instant Dinosaur Costume
Pip and Bean produce oodles of cool costumes not just for Halloween either. My kids dress up everyday, so should yours

Too Many Tutus
I don’t need another tutu in this house but a tutu tote would be perfect for collecting Trick or Treat goodies. Naptime21 has a selection for every style princess you know.

Time for Tea
My mother collects teapots and those made from pottery are her favorite. This year she didn’t get one at our annual Art/Crafts Festival but I think this one would be a perfect addition anytime of the year.

Spiders Aren’t That Scary
Halloween isn’t complete without a creepy spider. Red Pine Designs are handmade using several techniques all of which produce beautiful pieces of stained glass.

We were invited here
So today we will be heading to Langhorne, PA and needless to say we are pretty excited to go since we have not been since 2006 when Shaun was 3 years old.  This will be Shae’s first trip to Sesame Place and we are really excited to check out The Count’s Halloween Spooktacular.
Maybe I can get Shaun to go on this with me

Look for a full review with pictures and all in the next week. In the meantime be sure to follow Sesame Place on Twitter.
