Shopping Doesn’t Have to be Hard

When shopping for someone else’s kids are you often stumped? Do you wonder what their interests are? How do you accomplish shopping for a thoughtful but not wasteful gift? My advice for such a predicament is Kidorable.

Kidorable is the perfect shopping spot for kids aged toddler to school age. Boys and Girls alike are going to love the fun and whimsical designs for kids umbrellas, boots and raincoats. Shae has been wearing Kidorable rain boots for over 2 years. She is going on her 3rd pair now; Ballerina this time. I’ve gifted boots to my friend’s daughter and they were also a smashing hit. Regardless if they are tv junkies, artsy or into sports a cozy bath towel or backpack is always going to come in handy.

We Learned, Created and Shared our LeapPad and Tag

Each year there is a new hot electronic toy for kids and we usually end up indulging before any real research. This year that must have toy for kids is the Leapfrog LeapPad learning tablet. Tablets are all the craze right now, we have an iPad and the kids love it but I don’t love them using it. The LeapPad is JUST FOR KIDS with a built in camera, video recorder, activities and games.

set up and play within minutes

Our family hosted a “Learn, Create and Share” party for Shae and some friends to try out the LeapPad and Tag Reading System. With a bowl of frog gummies, froggy faced cupcakes and lilypad placemats we started our party with tasty snacks of course. The real fun began when the kids got to work on activity sheets and testing out the Tag and LeapPad for themselves.

fun with the tag

The set up was easy, hook up to the computer to download apps then hand it over to let the kids explore and have fun. Shae’s first game was Jewel Train; a puzzle game that gets minds thinking. Her new favorite thing is taking pictures so as soon as she found out there was a camera she went snapping away. The quality was good as long as there was enough light. The included software allows kids to manipulate pics with funny faces and drawings.

As a parent I looked for some other features. The size was perfect for small hands with buttons large enough not to miss and materials that weren’t slippery (like the iPad). The response time from when the children tapped the screen and when the movement or action happened was instant. This is important especially when you have impatient kids that will keep clicking or tapping resulting in the wrong answer or outcome. As a whole I’m pleased with the LeapPad and expect it to last many years.

LeapFrog products are a staple in our house. In fact about 10 years ago we purchased another item called a LeapPad; a completely different product than this one but it is still regularly used. Shae’s My First LeapPad is still going strong and has been handed down to my niece. The Leapster was Shaun’s best companion and found a new home with a younger neighbor. Learning can be fun and LeapFrog makes this very clear in every gadget they put out. The library of additional games and apps available for purchase is much larger than other kid devices I’ve seen out there and BONUS for the LeapPad and Tag; there are NO cartridges to lose.

Learn to read, create, write and play with LeapFrog.

I received free LeapFrog products in order to host a Learn, Create and Share Party. LeapFrog did not influence my opinions expressed here as a result.”

Lets Make a Difference in our Jammies

November 19th has been declared National Family Pajama Night! Honestly, every night is Family Pajama night in our house. We live in our jammies on weekends and most of the winter when it’s too cold to go outside. We play board games, video games, take naps and eventually eat dinner while never changing into regular clothes.

The Company Store wants to take this one step further. They want families all across the United States to pledge to plan a memorable evening together doing something that will provide laughter and memories to last a lifetime. Think of something fun, unique and new. If you need inspiration check out the Memory Maker for a new idea a day; you are bound to find something for your family.

Pledging to participate in National Family Pajama Night does more than brings your own family together. Once The Company Store reaches 20,000 pledges they will donate $20,000 worth of jammies to children in need through PajamaProgram.org.

Not just Celebs Shop The Children’s Place plus Giveaway

The fall is here and that means it’s time to break out sweaters, scarves and closed toe shoes; just the things to keep the chill away. Shae is a hat fanatic and when I saw The Children’s Place Owl hat I knew I had to get it.

They have a whole collection of fun knit animal hats and animal graphic tees for boys. Attached you’ll see the LA pre-Emmy’s event where stars from every level were picking up their favorites.

Maria Canals Barrera (mom from Wizards of Waverly Place)

Melissa McCarthy (Mike and Molly)

Aidan Quinn from Desperately Seeking Susan and Prime Suspect

You don’t have to be a celebrity to shop The Children’s Place though; their prices are great for everyone. Each year we do Shaun’s back to school shopping and stock up on basics for Shae. Even when Sabreena was little the majority of her clothing came from Children’s Place.  Growing up I remember shopping at The Gallery in Center City Philadelphia and The Children’s Place had a slide and climber to keep the kids occupied as parents shopped.

Don’t forget! The Children’s Place has kids and baby costumes too.

Frankenstein can be cute

Get your own Children’s Place gear here at LookWhatMomFound…and Dad too! A reader will will win a critter hat or graphic tee of their choice (based on availability). Let me know if you’ve purchased Children’s Place clothing and accessories in the past.

It’s time to clean out the closet with Scout by Bungalow

I really like the house we live in. We have great living space, a modern kitchen, a HUGE outdoor space for the kids and everyone has their own room. What we lack is sufficient closet space in the master bedroom and linen closet. This means that my “work and dressy” clothes, purses and shoes go in Shae’s closet and our sheets sets go in Shaun’s closet. We actually aren’t infringing on their space because they don’t require all the space but it was becoming a mess.

shaun's closet before cleaning

The kid’s closets needed some help. There was a little bit of everything everywhere so I was able to consolidate with a Scout by Bungalow Junque Trunk storage toteto get their sheets and towels in one space. As you can see from the before and after pictures that the tote itself fits so much stuff and keeps it looking good.

Scout by Bunglow is a unique but functional bag collection that also ventrues into storage, organization and insulated food bags. I was already a fan of Scout by Bungalow. I currently use their Daytripper on a very regular basis when we head out for the day as a family. Take a peek at all the fun patterns and options Scout by Bunglow has to offer and shop today

I Want To Party in Rio – Giveaway

This might have been the hottest summer in a long time. The blockbuster movie RIO made it even hotter with its thrilling samba soundtrack and bright animation.

Unfortunately we didn’t get the chance to see RIO in theaters but we were sent a great Family Movie Night set to enjoy it together at home. It was shortly before Shae’s birthday that the movie arrived along with movie watching must haves like a 6 pack of h2O®, gummy bears, Reeses’ Pieces, popcorn and a Rio activity book. At first Shae wasn’t interested in watching it; she doesn’t like to deviate from her regular movies but I didn’t let her stop me. In fact she like it so much that she made her party attendees sit through it too; she was sure they would love it too. Personally I loved the music, it truly made me move in my seat.

This comedic animated adventure centers on Blu, a flightless macaw who acts more human than bird. When Blu, the last of his kind, discovers there’s another – and that she’s a she – he embarks on an adventure to magical Rio de Janeiro. There, he meets Jewel and a menagerie of vivid characters that help Blu fulfill his dream and learn to fly.

This film is definitely one to add to the DVD collection for years of enjoyment for all ages. A LookWhatMomFound…and Dad too! reader is going to win the Rio Movie, a Rio activity book and some new h2O water. Just let me know if you’ve already watched Rio or not.

There’s nothing left to do

Summer is winding down. The kids are beyond bored. Unlike Phineas and Ferb they DON’T know what they’re going to do each day. I banned all electronics this particular day and said be creative. Stunts was the next obvious choice I guess. Sorry for cursing but it was an automatic response.

This went on for about 45 minutes. They tested each hill, every direction, with and without the wagon sides and even standing up. Thankfully no one broke anything because there were some wicked falls going on.
