Shop @OshKoshB’gosh sales plus #giveaway

I like where we live but unfortunately we live almost 20 miles from 2 of my favorite kids stores, Carters & OshKosh B’gosh. Both stores are side by side so I was always able to shop for Shaun in one and Sabreena in the other. Today I only make it to that part of town once or twice a year so I like to stock up when I get the chance. I even picked up the “sweater of the year” for Shae last winter. It was cozy teal blue with a cute bunny applique on it. Crossing my fingers it still fits for this year.

  • Starting August 1 through the end of the month, OshKosh B’gosh is offering fashion denim styles starting at $12 for babies and $14 for kids!
  • Don’t forget to snag up OshKosh B’gosh skinny cargos for girls and stowaway cargos for boys on August 1. All of the OshKosh cargos look great with sparkle tees or rugby shirts.
  • B’gosh blue jeans are made for fun and built to last. Choose from a towering collection of fits and washes for your OshKosh Kids starting at just $14.

People Think The Grass Is Always Greener

I am sure you have heard the saying “the grass is greener on the other side” but I am here to conform that it is not.

In the last week and a half I have been home a TON alone which I thought would be awesome but has been extremely boring. When the kids are home I complain sometimes that they are being a pain because in the moment they are. It starts when I walk into the house from work with Shae and her nonstop sentences that start like this: dad did you know that, dad guess what, dad today I, dad, dad, dad; LOL. Not that I mind because I love her to death but I wish she would stop adding dad to ever single sentence. Then Shaun starts in with his nonstop can I watch TV, can I play Xbox, can I play the iPad, can I play your phone, can I have a snack. Oh my goodness, if he is idle for more than two minutes he starts freaking out.

So like I said I have been home a ton recently alone as Melinda and the kids went to the beach all last week and this past Sunday night into Monday Melinda and Shaun were in NYC, Sabreena was at a friend’s house in Maryland and Shae spent the night at Mom Mom and Pop Pops. So it has been just the dogs and I and I am going to admit I have been bored out of my skull and miss ALL of the kids’ questions and nonsense. I can’t believe I am actually saying that but it’s true. The house had been so quiet without the kids

So now I need to remember the next time the kids are driving me up to wall to appreciate every moment because when they aren’t around I wish they were.

Cover Creator by Discovery Girls App & Magazine Giveaway

Parker and Peyton love playing on our iPad and they love to see what new apps are available for kids. We found one that is perfect for girls and hours of fun. It’s the Cover Creator from Discovery Girls and they have been playing with it nonstop.

We easily  downloaded Cover Creator from itunes to our iPad.  This app allows the girls to create their own magazine cover and it’s so easy to use and I love that fact that it entertains both of my girls. Sometimes I find apps that are fun for my 8 year old but the 10 year old finds them too childish and then the ones the 10 yr old can play are too old and hard for my 8 yr old. This is not the case for the Cover Creator.
The girls have been running all over the place taking pictures and designing the perfect magazine covers.
cover creator by discovery girls app

This app allows the girls to take a picture or use one already on the iPad, then it lets you resize or rotate, next you choose a theme of the cover you want such as animals, friends or sports crazy, it also allows you to create your own. Once you choose a theme you can reposition or add your own headlines and bylines that would be on a magazine cover. Once they get it just the way they like they can save, share, reset or delete it.

The girls have been running all over the place taking pictures and designing the perfect magazine covers. No one is safe from getting their own magazine cover. For app details and more about Created By Girls, For Girls philosophy visit Discovery Girls for advice, chat and fun.

Enter to win a Discovery Girls magazine subscription and free access to the Cover Creator for your iPhone, iPad or iPhone. Let me know who you are entering for.

Terry Rich Australia, Swim Robes

YAY! We made it to summer with barely a showing of spring. We literally went from cold to hot in what seemed like a couple if weeks. Rob took the kids to buy bathing suits, the beach towels are washed, the sand toys are unearthed from the garage, the sunscreen supply is stocked and we are ready to hit the pool and beach.

We recently received another summer treat in the mail all the way from Australia. Terry Rich is a producer of some of the HIGHEST quality beach products I’ve ever felt. Shae was sent a Swim Robe that rivals some of my biggest, thickest, thirstiest beach towels. Each product from their swim robes to their towels to their beach totes are made with the best ingredients so their customers receive the best product available

Terry Rich, Whale Beach Australia

We haven’t gotten the chance to hit the pool yet but we have been playing in the yard with hose, baby pool and toys. The first thing Shae asked for when she knew we were headed out to play in the water was her pool robe. She has already been wearing it around the house because it was cozy and soft.

As she came out of the water she put the robe on, put the hood on, zipped it up and didn’t need anything else. Her feet dried in the sun so she was ready to head in the house. Normally I wouldn’t let the kids in the house wet but the Terry Rich Swim Robe sucked all the water off of her body. We set it out to dry like the other towels and it’s was hanging on her doorknob the same day.

I liked the plastic zipper. No metal to worry about rusting. The hood was deep and covered her eyes from the sun and the little pocket is a great spot for goggles. The colors are bright and will easily stand out in a crowd.

TerryRich Swim Robes some in sizes for toddlers to big kids and can easily be passed down from one child to another as they grow. The thickness and softness really impressed me.

Shop Terry Rich directly from Australia with super fast shipping at a flat rate.

When Table Manners Go Wrong

We’ve always been sticklers for table manners. We usually eat together as a family and wait for everyone to be home unless there are extraordinary circumstances. We use please and thank you when asking for things across the table and we try to stay seated until everyone is done. One thing that I really enforce is waiting till everyone is seated before we start eating. This means no picking at your plate and grabbing bites as we take plates over. Mistakes happen but as a whole we are pretty good at this rule. This is what happens when we take the rule so literal, it takes forever to actually eat dinner.

This was taken 12/2009, Sabreena was 13, Shaun was 6 and Shae was 2. They have always had great senses of humor but I may have created some lil monsters here.

You Are….

Have you ever wondered if your kids REALLY knew how much you loved them? Explain it to them in terms of food. Use their favorite foods to really get the point across. A cupcake isn’t really a cupcake with the icing, its just a muffin. A cupcake NEEDS that icing to make it whole, to make it what it really is. Tell your kids you aren’t whole without them, tell them they complete you better than Jerry Maguire ever could. You are the Apple Of My Eye just doesn’t cut it anymore.
you are the icing on my cupcake, tell your kids how much you really love them

KidsBowlFree.com is Back

Now in its 5th year, KidsBowlFree.com serves more than a million children and 700,000 families across North America each summer- allowing them to bowl for free all summer long.

More than 950 bowling centers participate in the program from coast to coast which provides kids with 2 FREE games of bowling every day all summer.

Families must register online at www.kidsbowlfree.com and then will begin receiving emailed vouchers valid for two free bowling games each day for a week every Sunday morning from the starting date at their center until the conclusion of the program in their community.

Kids Bowl Free began in 2008 with just 75 bowling centers. This summer, KidsBowlFree.com expects to serve more than 2 million children in 48 states and every province in Canada at more than 1200 centers.

Most Kids Bowl Free programs kick off by Memorial Day weekend and end on or about Labor Day Weekend.

Also new this year, Kids Bowl Free is teaming up to help educators offset their growing out of pocket expenses. Educators across America can apply to receive one of 400 – $250.00 classroom supply grants being offered by the Bowling to Teachers Classroom Supply Grant program.

Don’t Blink

Many times throughout a day I’ll look at the kids and wonder “When did THAT happen”. This could be how tall they are, how smart they are, how funny they are or how big their feet are. That last one is for Shaun, he’s going on 9 and his feet are as big as mine already.

Anyway, it seems like yesterday they were in diapers, sharing our bed or being pushed in a stroller. Here’s a brief peek at what runs through my head as I steal peeks at my beautiful babies.

The Band Shinedown On Bullying

Shinedown is one on my favorite bands and to most their music is a little on the hard side but they just released a single called “Bully”. Like I mentioned I love Shinedown but I didn’t see them as an inspirational band who would write a song on a cause like this but I think it’s AWESOME.  Thankfully Melinda and  I were never bullied nor have our kids which trust me I am truly grateful for.  I feel for kids who are bullied.  Actually it breaks my heart and as a grown man it upsets me when I see or hear stores about it.  To me it’s hard to understand what makes people bully others because that just isn’t in my DNA.  I dont think kids and adults for that matter think about the people that they are bulling.  They are people with real feeling and being bulling just pushes people to do stuff they wouldn’t normally do like act out against others or even commit suicide.  It is a sad situation for all people involved.

Check out Shinedown’s video “Bully” below.  The first time I listened to it is choked me up.

Dressing Down for the Holidays with Tea Collection

tea collection logoDressing up the kids for the holidays always seems so daunting. Finding the perfect dress or dressy sweater (that won’t be worn again) and the perfect shoes (that won’t be worn again) and the right shade tights (that never stay up) and then making sure everything fits; it’s just too much work. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve done it before but sometimes I want the kids to wear
Children’s Clothes that look like children’s clothes and be comfortable AND still look great. Tea Collection puts out some of the most unique clothing and accessories for children. Inspiration for the colorful and sometimes funky choices is derived from the designer’s worldwide travels.

Tea Collection offered me a great opportunity to review some outfits just for this reason. I selected one of their Girl’s Wardrobe Sets ; A is for Awesome, which included 2 tunics/dresses, 1 pair of leggings and 1 pair of bootcut leggings. The colors pulled me in first. The reds are festive but the purples and oranges tones it down for everyday wear. A simple sparkly headband and pair of elegant shoes can dress-up these outfits in a second. Shae’s outfits come from the Mercado Mexicano collection. The folk art bird on Shae’s dress can be found throughout Mexico at festivals, markets and as body art. Using the natural surroundings as a muse creates their pairings of color and pattern.

Each outfit has been put through a wearing and 2 washings and the materials are still soft and easy to wear. This is important to me as there is NO way I want to monitor labels or pull out an iron for a trip to the grocery store. Tea Collection focuses on what is important; practicality, color and look. I’m hoping to add more Tea Collection to Shae’s wardrobe; these clothes are a natural fit to her easy-going but girly personality.
