Everyday Minerals Cosmetics-Closed

As a SAHM I don’t get many chances primp and pamper myself. What I do love and consider special time alone is when it’s time to apply make-up for date night or hanging out with friends. I made the switch a couple years ago to mineral makeup and I’m hooked. I love the natural feel and look I get from just using a handful of products.

The 2nd mineral company I went to was Everyday Minerals. I’ve stuck with them because I’ve never had a problem with itching and redness like I did with another brand. Everyday Minerals contacted me a couple weeks back and asked if I would be interested in review their products. I quickly responded that I was already a HUGE fan and actually had reviewed them on my own a while back. I received a great selection of goodies, some that I choose myself and some that were a surprise.

I decided to add the new products to what I already owned and do a quick before and after to show you how they transformed my face in about 5 minutes. I’ll let you what I’m wearing and in what order I applied them and with what bamboo brush I used.

After moisturizing and letting that dry I apply using the Foundation Brush, Abbott’s Perk Me Up Concealer under my eyes, around my nose and right at my upper lash line. This helps to even out the circles and slight redness and dullness on my skin. I used to use Lavender Color Corrector for under my eyes but Abbott’s Perk Me Up seems to be doing a great job and pulling double duty.

My next step is my base. With the Long Handled Kabuki I apply Medium Beige Neutral all over my face onto my neck and under my ears. I brush this powder in a circular motion haphazardly everywhere paying attention to my eyes and around my mouth. I’ve been known to do this step without a mirror and just brushing all over my face, there really is no margin of error. Cheek color is next. Using my new Angled Blush Brush I this time applied a tiny bit of Corner Office for a hint of color.

Eyes are my favorite part of my face because I love all the fun colors I can use. This particular night we were just going for a quick dinner so kept it toned down a bit but you can usually find me in purples, greens and even blues. Using the Eye Kabuki Brush I tapped Comfy over my lids then added a bit of Morocco with the Dome Blending Brush to the outer edges. I then used Everyday Eye Smudge Brush for a touch of Oasis to add a bit of shimmer under my brow.

Eyeliner goes on last. I’ve never used powder liner before this night so this was kinda an experiment too. I was sent Postcards Eyeliner which is described as a medium gray-green. I would say it was more of a dark gray with hints of metallic olive green. I used a very very stiff skinny tipped brush to apply just at the lash line. It went on easy and stayed put for the next couple hours. My only problem was I must have spilled a little on my vanity so then all the containers were smudged with dark eyeliner powder.

My last step was applying my lips. I normally don’t go for lots of color so I first applied Rose, Cardamom and Orange lip balm then swept on Sweet Berries lip gloss.

I’m done and doing all of this took me between 4-5 minutes. Loose powder application for all over the face might take some getting used to but I think it has greatly reduced my time spent applying cosmetics. The eyeliner application will take a few more tries to perfect but I think for my first time it went well.   I’ve had great success using Everyday Minerals, while I do add items from other brands Everyday Minerals is my go to especially for base, concealer and eyes.

At Everyday Minerals you’re able to try out some of their great colors for FREE. Choose one of their Try Me Free collections for free with the purchase of any order or for just $5 on their own. Everyday Minerals prices make it easy to try different trends and shades without breaking the bank.

Every month, Everyday Forward picks a national or international charity with a focus on women’s issues. This charity will benefit from the proceeds of a particular product. This month the product is B&B, a cheek color that gives a warm glow for any skin color. The charity this month is Kiva.org, an organization that helps finance entrepreneurs around the globe.

Dad’s Perspective: The products seem to last a long time and are priced really good compared to the other brand she used to use.

Most people have heard of bamboo fibers for use in clothing, bedding and bath textiles. Bamboo is a not only a renewable resource it is naturally smooth, soft and non-irritating. This makes bamboo a desirable material for those with sensitive skin. This doesn’t mean bamboo isn’t perfect for everyone though. Its round fibers make it possible for the fabric to lie softly next to the skin instead of rubbing against it like other synthetic fibers. Its breathability and insulating properties also make bamboo the perfect year round material for garments.

The selection at DreamSacks® is vast; clothing for men, women, kids and babies plus lush bath towels, silky sheets and fun accessories. Win a Sophie Short Wrap right here at LookWhatMomFound…and Dad too! Visit DreamSacks® and tell us another item you would love to try out.

Dad’s Perspective: I liked the look and feel of the jacket, it gave a simple outfit a little pizzazz while still looking comfortable.

    CitiBlocs Revolution

Citiblocs were created with innovation, durability and affordability in mind. Building blocks are great fun and they allow children to use their imagination to build endless items. Citiblocs are made from Radiata Pine from certified renewable forests in New Zealand and all cut precisely to the same exact size. Since Citiblocs are all the same size and shape all that is needed to build towers, cars, forts or boats is gravity and the power of imagination.

When we received our set of 54 Blocks color box Shae was first intrigued by the red and blue color of the blocks. After that she was quickly lining them up and stacking them not really making anything in particular but just having a great time. Shae is fairly new the building blocks so Citiblocs will be good for her since they are all the same size and shape. I am sure Shaun and Sabreena will have alot of fun helping Shae build awesome things. The one thing I would have liked to see as a parent is a plastic storage box or durable bag for the blocks. Citiblocs come in a sturdy cardboard box but over time I am sure my kids will destroy the box and I will have to get a storage box.
Citiblocs has won 12 Indusry awards in just six months which to me says people think they have an awesome product here which they do. Some of the awards they have won are Dr Toy Best Green Product Winner, Dr Toy Best Vacation Products Winner and iParent Media Award Winner.
You can get Citiblocs at Toys R US, Etoys.com and Citiblocsstore.com. Citiblocs offers a 100% satisfaction guarantee and also offers 10% off to educators.
Mom’s Perspective: I love natural play. Not only does it mean no batteries/no noise but this means the kids can use their imagination. Building blocks are a great tool to improve hand eye coordination and dexterity.
Citiblocs is offering 1 lucky Look What Mom Found…and Dad too! reader a chance to win either a 52 piece natural set or the 54 piece color set of there own. Head over to Citiblocs and tell me anything new about Citiblocs that was not mentioned in my article.

Baby Shower Gift #6 Kissaluvs One-Size diaper and Cloth-n-Go bag

Start your new baby’s life in the fluffy softness of a cloth diaper. While I wasn’t aware of the choices available when Sabreena and Shaun were little, Shae was the lucky one to wear cloth diapers. Our very first diapers were Kissaluvs fitteds. They really were great and she looked so adorable in them. I was a sucker for cute patterns and the latest designs but there was something special about the simple cotton fleece covering her heiny.

Even in the last 2 years Kissaluvs has made strides in cloth diaper development. With options that include organic materials, contour diapers, cloth wipes and now the Marvel One-Size fitted there is something for every family regardless of diapering stage and cloth knowledge. The new Marvels One-Size Fitted is designed to fit kiddos 10-40lbs. With it’s bamboo velour inner your baby is going to only have silky softness touching her skin but the designer print outer fabric is going to be the eye-catcher and envy of the other babies on the playmat.

The Cloth-n-Go bag is a new addition to the Kissaluvs family too. Specifically designed to hold a cloth diaper and wipes it lets you get going for a quick errand or walk around the neighborhood without lugging the entire diaperbag. The unique snap-in handle allows you to hook it over the stroller bar, carrier strap or your wrist. The PUL liner also lets moms and dads use this as a mini wetbag for that one the go diaper change. The outer material is made from the same designer fabrics as the Marvels One-Size fitted, a combo purchase would make an excellent baby shower gift.

Kissaluvs got their start the way most cloth diaper companies did, in the home where a mom was making cloth diapers for her own little one. Kissaluvs are used throughout the world by moms and dads who want the best things for their children. This was made possible by Tashi, the owner of Kissaluvs. She has personally developed the brand into something more than just a business; it’s an extension of her own family. Every diaper is made with love and inspected to be sure it’s good enough to go onto your child’s bottom. Their design is proven to work, their production team is dedicated to superior quality and Tashi’s goal is determined to take of your baby, your money and the Planet.

Kissaluvs is giving a LookWhatMomFound…and Dad too! reader the chance to win this great combo prize ($38) for themselves. Read Tashi’s Diaper Story, tell me why you want to win this great prize from Kissaluvs

Winner Chosen: ESBaby Cloth Diaper Recapitulation

    momof3dolls, July 3, 2009 3:38 PM daily tweet
    http://twitter.com/momof3dolls/status/2458474120

I love fluffy butt. Don’t know what fluffy butt is? It’s the term used for cloth diapered heinys since they are soft and squishy and FLUFFY. I’ve been cloth diapering Shae since she was about a week old. We started with fitted and prefolds with covers and have moved all over the cloth world using all different brands and styles.

AIOs are a style that I’ve used off and on with success and sometimes without success. I stumbled on ESBaby and knew I had to try an All-In-One again. What drew me to ESBaby was the variety of styles and customization available plus the adorable traditional design of gathered legs, giving that sweet ruffled look. ESBaby is run by Christine, a work at home mom to two children. She makes a full line of cloth diapering products, including fitteds, covers, AIOS, QuickDry AIOs, wipes, diaper bags and wetbags. She also carries a line of women’s reusable cloth pads. ESBaby carries organic and non-organic options in all of their products and is open for custom orders.

After giving Christine Shae’s measurements her precious lavender fluffy goodness True AIO arrived and I wished women’s underwear could be made with the same plush sherpa that this diaper was made from. The fit was great, the legs and side-snapping wings had great stretch to fit Shae’s chunky thighs with room to grow and the rise was low enough to sit under her belly but still cover her booty. This diaper is thick, not a trim fit but since Shae is what some would call a “super soaker” we need the bulk so a big heiny doen’t bother me one bit.

My particular diaper has 5 layers of sherpa topped with cotton velour plus the inner lining. Christine is toying with the idea of cutting back to 4 layers to reduce the bulk but again I don’t mind it at all. With the extra layers Shae was able to nap in her diaper without any leaking or wicking to her clothing. I’m completely impressed with the craftsmanship and quality of materials.

Want to win your own ESBaby True AIO? Here’s your chance! ESBaby is giving LookWhatMomFound readers the chance to win one of their own. Visit ESBaby and sign up for Christine’s newsletter then come back and tell me what other product you would like to try.

    Winner Chosen: Mommy’s ER Recapitulation

Barely Domestic Mama, June 18, 2009 8:36 AM

I’ve got your button on my blog’s sidebar.

I’m a little to no medicine kind of person. Not just for me either but for my kids. I wasn’t always like this; I remember dosing Sabreena with cough and cold products when she was little. As she grew up and Shaun and Shae came along I started to realize that these products either did little to relive symptoms or were masking more severe ailments. I started pay closer attention to other things that worked and really prefer natural remedies to things like teething, cough and fever.
Some of these remedies and many more have been captured into one DVD series called Mommy’s ER. Mommy’s ER is a 3-part instructional DVD series that teaches moms (and dads!) safe, simple, at-home methods to treat common children’s ailments naturally. I’ve viewed all three DVDs and was quite impressed with the detail as to where Jennifer Crain has gone into not only explaining the methods but as to why they work. The demonstrations are clear and Jennifer’s voice is calming but confident. The first DVD goes through Acute Conditions such as fever, vomiting, earache and other sudden illness that can affect your child. DVD 2 covers chronic health issues such as asthma, allergies and chronic ear infections while DVD 3 is devoted to maintaining a healthy lifestyle with preventative care such as boosting their immune system.

DVD 3 is my favorite. I’m always wondering what I can do better to keep my kids healthy. I have always tried to keep my kids away from excessive sugar especially processed sugars but to find out that sugar, especially white sugar can reduce the effectiveness of our immune systems was startling. Here is Jennifer Crain discussing the importance of sleep for our children.

Jennifer Crain, creator of Mommy ER is a practicing acupuncturist who specializes in treating a variety of children’s health conditions through acupressure, Japanese-style acupuncture and nutritional healing. Founder and owner of The Goji Seed Eastern health clinic in Austin, Texas, Jennifer divides her time between private consultations on children’s and women’s health, and traveling in search of the newest remedies and approaches to natural healing. Prior to opening The Goji Seed and starting Mommy’s ER, Jennifer worked as a reproductive health researcher at University of California at San Francisco and a virologist for the state of California, providing health care and health education to underserved populations. For six years, she directed public health programs in Latin America, where she developed and managed programs in maternal-child healthcare, nutrition and immunization campaigns. She holds a Master’s Degree in Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine from the Academy of Oriental Medicine in Austin. Jennifer opened the Goji Seed Clinic in 2005, where her integrated, holistic approach was quickly embraced by the local community. She has also extensively studied yoga and meditation as tools for health and well-being.

If you are interested in introducing natural changes and therapies into yours and your child’s lives than I would highly suggest purchasing the Mommy’s ER DVD series. It is a comprehensive look into a blend of Eastern and Western medicine and it’s alternatives to an over-use of antibiotics and prescription and over the counter medications. Please understand that this information is not intended to replace your doctor’s recommendations or diagnosis but to add to or supplement while you are waiting for professional advice or care.

Jennifer Crain is giving a Mommy ER DVD series to a LookWhatMomFound reader.

Visit Mommy ER sign up for the newsletter (bottom of each page) and tell me what section of which DVD you think you could get the most help from.

    I want a Compost Pile

I’ve always wished I could have a compost pile or bin. We throw away so much “good” trash it hurts my heart. Our yard is so small that we don’t have room for a garden let along a compost bin so really what is the use. Our old house had a HUGE yard but we weren’t as “green” then as we are now. We eat a TON of fresh fruit and veggies and eggs on a daily basis that I could fill a compost bin super quick just with the peels, greens and rinds. This doesn’t include the grass clippings and paper and cardboard products.
I stole this from CleanAirGardening.com, there is no way I know this much about composting but it is a fabulous article really getting into the basics and benefits of composting.
Anybody out there compost? Is it stinky?
Compost is one of nature’s best mulches and soil amendments, and you can use it instead of commercial fertilizers. Best of all, compost is cheap. You can make it without spending a cent. Using compost improves soil structure, texture, and aeration and increases the soil’s water-holding capacity. Compost loosens clay soils and helps sandy soils retain water. Adding compost improves soil fertility and stimulates healthy root development in plants. The organic matter provided in compost provides food for microorganisms, which keeps the soil in a healthy, balanced condition. Nitrogen, potassium, and phosphorus will be produced naturally by the feeding of microorganisms, so few if any soil amendments will need to be added.
Most gardeners have long understood the value of this rich, dark, earthy material in improving the soil and creating a healthful environment for plants. Understanding how to make and use compost is in the public interest, as the problem of waste disposal climbs toward a crisis level. Landfills are brimming, and new sites are not easy to find because no one wants to live near a garbage dump. For this reason there is an interest in conserving existing landfill space and in developing alternative methods of dealing with waste. Don’t throw away materials when you can use them to improve your lawn and garden! Start composting instead. About one third of the space in landfills is taken up with organic waste from our yards and kitchens — just the type of material that can be used in compost!
With a small investment in time, you can contribute to the solution to a community problem, while at the same time enriching the soil and improving the health of the plants on your property.
    The Decomposition Process

Compost is the end product of a complex feeding pattern involving hundreds of different organisms, including bacteria, fungi, worms, and insects. What remains after these organisms break down organic materials is the rich, earthy substance your garden will love. Composting replicates nature’s natural system of breaking down materials on the forest floor. In every forest, grassland, jungle, and garden, plants die, fall to the ground, and decay. They are slowly dismantled by the small organisms living in the soil. Eventually these plant parts disappear into the brown crumbly forest floor. This humus keeps the soil light and fluffy. Humus is our goal when we start composting. By providing the right environment for the organisms in the compost pile, it is possible to produce excellent compost. We usually want to organize and hasten Mother Nature’s process.
By knowing the optimum conditions of heat, moisture, air, and materials, we can speed up the composting process. Besides producing more good soil faster, making the compost faster creates heat which will destroy plant diseases and weed seeds in the pile. Almost any organic material is suitable for a compost pile. The pile needs a proper ratio of carbon-rich materials, or “browns,” and nitrogen-rich materials, or “greens.” Among the brown materials are dried leaves, straw, and wood chips. Nitrogen materials are fresh or green, such as grass clippings and kitchen scraps.

Winner Chosen…Little Allergies Allergen Block Givewaway

    Jennifer, June 8, 2009 10:57 PM
    20 I follow your blog

When the seasons change it brings along allergy issues for so many people. This is very true of my little friend Carter. We go to the park very often and it usually ends quickly as he usually spends the time sneezing and rubbing his eyes. I feel bad for him but there isn’t much more I can do for him, until now.

The makers of Little Remedies products, Little Allergies® Allergen Block is a topical gel that are applied outside the nostrils to block allergens on contact. They are the FIRST solutions available for allergies that prevent symptoms rather than treating them after they hit. Because they are drug-free, there are no side effects or danger of potential drug interactions. Chloraseptic® and Little Allergies® Allergen Block products are patented formulations which are designed to work in a novel fashion. The gentle, positively-charged water-based gels help filter negatively-charged allergens in the air on contact. Filtering allergens such as pollen, ragweed, pet dander, and dust mites, helps stop them from entering the nasal passages, where they can cause allergic symptoms such as runny nose and sneezing. Therefore, unlike existing allergy products that treat allergy symptoms once the symptoms have started, Allergen Block products, when used as directed, help prevent the start of mild nasal allergy symptoms by reducing the number of allergen particles entering the nostrils. Allergen Block products are safe for children 12 years and younger like all the Little Remedies products because they are drug-free and free of unnecessary additives and dyes. The entire Little Remedies® line is made exclusively for children so they “get everything they need and nothing they don’t.”

    How to Dine Green

A lot of us are incorporating organic and local foods into our diets as a way to improve health, boost local economics, save a few pennies and practice environmental responsibility. We prepare our meals with fresher produce, grass-fed meats and whole wheat grains that can easily be picked up at grocery stores, farmers markets and health food stores but what happens when you want to enjoy a meal outside the home.

The Green Restaurant Association is a national non-profit organization that provides a convenient, cost effective way for restaurants, manufacturers, distributors and consumers to become for environmentally responsible about the food we consume. Restaurants can undergo simple tasks and changes to green their establishments, from switching to local food sources to implementing a successful recycling program. GRA is there to help every step of the way by offering environmental consulting, public relations and Green Restaurant Certification.

GRA also offers a service for us consumers. Do you want to want to know where to DineGreen? Do you want to encourage your favorite local diner to apply some eco-conscious effort to their menu? Use tools available to search out a new place to dine or get your old standby to make the switch.

Whether you’re the owner, chef or customer don’t you want to feel better knowing that meal you enjoyed had a lower impact on our natural and non-renewable resources? The Green Restaurant Association is available to help at every level and are the experts in helping restaurants become more environmentally sustainable.
