DIY Pet Door

As pet owners I’ve always wanted a way for our dogs to let themselves in and out of the house. They love to hang out on the deck and soak up the sun or watch the kids play out back. A pet door would be a great solution.

Treats for my dogs from Cesar

Have you met our newest additions?  Rocky and Coco (otherwise know as Coco-nuts) are 2 doggies we rescued from different situations last month. Rocky was severely abused and Coco was taken to a shelter because his owner didn’t want him anymore.  They are still young dogs, 3-4 years old with lots of personality and attitude.  They are my shadows, especially Rocky.  He’s the chicken of the group, hiding from every noise and person that comes into the room.

I try to pamper these guys to show them that they’ve found their forever homes and this means letting them indulge in several treats a day.  They are little dogs with little bellies so I have to be careful how much I’m feeding them.  I stick with treats for small dogs that are nutritious and tasty.  Cesar sent over a couple bags of snacks that the doggies instantly loved.  They both were standing up at the table as I opened the bag of Cookie Crunchies Rotisserie Chicken flavor.

Each cookie style treat is only 10 calories; small enough to use as a reward for good behavior or after an active run in the yard. Our dogs like a variety of treats with different flavors and textures so the new Cesar Crunchies are a great addition to the cookie jars full of doggie goodies.

“I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Cesar and received a product sample to facilitate my review and a promotional item to thank me for taking the time to participate.”

Kenneling pets in style and comfort

As you know we recently brought in 2 new members of our family, Coco and Rocky. Having new dogs in the family means training and getting the dogs adjusted to different circumstances. Our dogs are crated when we leave the house and during the night.

Petmate has recently expanded its reputable line of plastic pet carriers to include a modern and versatile top-loading model. The 2-Door Kennel presents pet owners, particularly cat owners, with a very helpful solution for more easily inserting and removing a pet from itscarrier.

The 2-Door Kennel is available in two sizes (19” and 24”) for pets ranging from 5 – 20lbs, and offered in four contemporary pearlescent colors—Pearl Ashe Blue, Metallic Pearl Tan, Metallic Pearl White and Pearl Honey Rose. Steel wire and plastic construction create a sturdy carrier that easily assembles and securely latches for safe carrying or auto travel.

This carrier, although new to the market, is quickly receiving recognition within the pet industry. It was chosen as a staffers’ pick for Stuff We Love in the Spring 2012 issue of Modern Dog Magazine alongside 14 other pet product favorites for the season. Most recently, Dr. Marty Becker—the popular veterinary contributor to ABC-TV’s “Good Morning America,” resident veterinarian on “The Dr. Oz Show” and the pet expert for the American Association of Retired Persons—chose Petmate’s 2-Door Kennel from thousands showcased at the industry’s largest annual tradeshow, Global Pet Expo, for inclusion in his annual “Dr. Becker’s Best” list.

“Petmate is already a trusted industry authority and solution provider, and we continue to dedicate ourselves to the development of innovative products that meet the evolving needs of pets and their owners,” says Larry Baab, Executive Vice President of Marketing and New Product Development for Petmate. “We are thrilled that the 2-Door Kennel has been so well-received by those in the pet industry, and look forward to introducing more products into the marketplace that improve the lives of pets and those who care for them.”

The 2-Door Kennel retails for $49.99 (19”) and $69.99 (24”), and is currently available at pet specialty retailers nationwide

Why Do You Just Touch My Dog?

For the most part I am a pretty friendly pet owner but I absolutely hate people who come up to Sam and just pet him without asking.  How do they know my dog won’t bite their hand off?  Also, why do they assume I even want them to pet my dog in the first place?  People wouldn’t come up if you were pushing a baby in a stroller and just pick the baby up or begin to touch the baby.  Most people would just comment on how cute the baby was and move on.  People need to learn to do the same with pets.

I was telling Melinda that when someone pets Sam without asking first I am going to pet them back without asking and see how they like it.  I am 100% certain they aren’t going to appreciate it and might even get pissed off but I really don’t care.  I actually hope they get pissed and ask why I pet them so I can tell them that they pet my dog without asking so I figured it was ok to pet them back without asking.

Do you own a dog? Are you ok with people petting them without asking?

We Caved – Not So Wordless Wednesday

So we broke down after about 6 years with no pets and this past weekend got not one but two geckos and a 29 gallon fish tank.  Our plan was to go to the pet store and get just a fish tank but after looking at the geckos the kids pretty much begged for them well Sabreena did at least.  So Saturday night I was up until 11pm or so setting up the gecko tank. On Sunday we needed to go back to the pet store to get crickets for Brown and Biscuit (yup that is what the kids named the geckos) and while there I sort of talked Melinda into a fish tank.  I know on Saturday she really wanted one but the kids got their way instead.  So now everyone got their way and is now happy which means we went from ZERO pets to a bunch all in one weekend.
