What I Walked Away With #MrPeabody

In case you were following my feed on Twitter or Facebook you probably figured out I was in NYC last weekend for something to do with new Mr. Peabody and Sherman movie coming out March 7th.

I was invited to not just screen the movie but to talk to the director and actors about how the movie came about and their opinions on how the audience will view it.

#MrPeabody & Sherman and Bloggers
If you were a kid growing up in the 1960’s you might remember Peabody’s Improbable History. This animation was about a well accomplished dog and his adopted son Sherman. Dreamworks Animation has revised that original story into a modern day adaptation called Mr. Peabody and Sherman.

The background is essentially the same, Mr. Peabody (voiced by Ty Burrell, Emmy Award® Winner -Modern Family) is a special dog; a genius, Olympian, Nobel Peace Prize Winner, inventor and business tycoon who adopts a boy, Sherman, (Max Charles -The Amazing Spiderman) with the approval of government.

They travel time in the WABAC machine to significant periods in history. These adventures of course are meant to be educational but things go awry and they wreck havoc on these important moments.MPS-four

I took away a few different messages from the movie, I’m guessing that was the point.

It takes more than a title to be a father. While Mr. Peabody has officially adopted Sherman there was something missing in their relationship. It took a series of misadventures for Mr. Peabody to see Sherman as not just his human but his family, his son.

While Mr. Peabody and Sherman have an unconventional family it’s a family nonetheless. Others looked at them and saw differences and didn’t agree with the way they were living.

Glimpses of historical moments ignited a passion for learning in me. I’m hoping that it does the same for children as they watch the movie. As your children ask “Did that really happen”, it should encourage a dialog and possible examination into the true story.

Mr. Peabody and Sherman is more than just a kid’s animation film. It’s a family movie that grasps at different emotions and aspects of life. The WABAC machine might take them back in time but the lessons learned will help them forge a hopeful and evolving relationship for the future.

Starring Ty Burrell, Max Charles, Ariel Winter, Stephen Colbert, Leslie Mann, Patrick Warburton, Stanley Tucci, Allison Janney, Lake Bell, Zach Callison, Dennis Haysbert
Directed by Rob Minkoff
Produced by Alex Schwartz, Denise Nolan Cascino
Executive Produced by Tiffany Ward, Eric Ellenbogen, Jason Clark

I don’t care what Kim, Jennifer or Lebron buys

I love a good movie or train-wreck of a reality show like the next person but I could give a flying finger what Kim Kardashian or Queen Latifah are pedaling. A celebrity endorsement is as useful as teets on bull. Do I really look at Drew Barrymore and say “I gotta get me some CoverGirl Lashblast mascara because if she uses it, it must work”, ummm NO. I look at these commercials and ads and wonder how is this relevant to my life. What makes their word so important? Why do they get multi-million dollar contracts and bloggers get squat. Yeah Yeah I know, bloggers get PAID or COMPENSATED by providing some ad space, text links or opinions but nowhere near what they deserve. The time spent using, tasting, wearing, riding and playing a review item along with photo editing, writing, posting and other technical duties can easily take hours and hours to complete.
I get my recommendations from real people by searching online for opinions, reviews and reputable blogs before making some family purchases. This is how most real people make buying decisions. The celebrity endorsement is lost on me and according to BlogHer 2011 Social Media Matters Study that seems to be the consensus with female shoppers. “There is a definite trend we’ve seen where people trust the opinion of a regular person, we trust any person force more than any corporate force when it comes to getting advice and recommendations,” Elisa Camahort Page, co-founder and COO of BlogHer told FOX411’s Pop Tarts column.

Who do you believe?

Share and Save those Memories

Do you remember that funny story your kid told last Tuesday about the whale that was eating a popsicle? No? Did you record it? Did you write it down? It’s about time you recorded all those jokes, exaggerations and reflections on life where you, your friends and family can see.

MyMomMemories is the place to share, save and never forget those tidbits of funny, loving and shocking things that happen each day. Moms and Dads are always sharing stories about what goes on as a family but what happens when a month from now you want to share it with the grandparents. Most of the time we forget those things. We log stats in baby books, mark up door jams and hang pictures to capture moments in time but what about the things the kids day and do.

MyMomMemories was created by a father-daughter team who knew that they more time that passed the more memories they were going to forget. Facebook was working well but MyMomMemories is different because each memory shared is archived for easy retrieval later; no scrolling “older posts” over and over. In fact you can set up your MyMomMemories account to share to your Facebook account for your friends to see.

What the kids say today can be read tomorrow to continue the smiles, laughs and tears. Follow on Twitter to stay updated on MyMomMemories.com

“Buy One, Give One” Comforter Donation Program to Benefit Homeless Children

The Company Store today announced the launch of a Buy One, Give One Comforter Donation Program to benefit homeless children across the country.  With this initiative, The Company Store will donate a new comforter to a homeless child with every comforter purchased from their web site or catalog. As the children transition from temporary to more permanent housing, the children will be able to take their new comforters with them to their new home.

“We’re pleased to partner with charities nationwide on such a vital initiative,” says Dennis Warner, Chief Marketing Officer of The Company Store.  “There are a significant number of homeless children in this country who do not sleep in their own home, in their own bedroom.  The Company Store is committed to bringing some comfort to these children in need.”

According to The National Center on Family Homelessness (www.familyhomelessness.org), families with young children comprise a staggering 34% of America’s homeless population.  In a given year, 1 in 50 American children is homeless, affecting over 1.5 million children across the country and jeopardizing their health and well-being on a daily basis.  Numerous charitable organizations work tirelessly to provide relief and shelter to homeless families, and The Company Store has pledged to aid their efforts.

“Day in and day out, these groups work to deliver services and care to families until they can get into permanent housing.  We hope that the donated comforters will raise the spirits of thousands of children and their families as they work to rebuild their lives.” says Dennis Warner, CMO of The Company Store.

Enter To Win A Trip To New Orleans To Play Some Football

Thanksgiving was this past Thursday which to my family means turkey, football and relaxing and enjoying each other’s company.  Most people even if not a fan of football tend to watch on Thanksgiving.  There is nothing better than building memories around football, family and food.

My favorite team is the Tennessee Titans and I remember a few years back my family and I got the opportunity to watch them beat up on the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving Day.  I already enjoy Thanksgiving but being able to watch my favorite team made it that much better.

Clorox is also a fan of football and is running a contest where you and nine of your friends and family  can win a trip to New Orleans to play in the first ever Clorox Toilet Bowl with ESPN analyst and former professional player , Jesse Palmer, as your quarterback.

Here is what you need to do for your chance to win:

  1. Tell us in 100 words or less why your team should play in the Clorox Toilet Bowl.
  2. Upload a photo.
  3. Pick a mascot.
  4. Choose your colors.
  5. Rally your fans.

On December 3, 2010, eight semi-finalists will be announced and community voting will begin.

One vote per person per day is allowed through December 11, 2010, when two finalists and their teams of nine of their choice will advance to play in the January 13, 2011 Clorox Toilet Bowl in New Orleans.

I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Dad Central Consulting on behalf of Clorox and received a gift code, toilet wand and football to thank me for taking the time to participate.

oKIDokie Sounds for Silence

oKIDokie announces the growing availability of its Sounds for Silence Settling Baby Program throughout the U.S. The program goes beyond sleep-assistance and baby soothing music CDs on the market or the use of lullabies and calms nine out of 10 babies; of those, one out of two settle in less than one minute.

The Sounds for Silence Program includes the Soundtracks and Sounds for Silence Baby Settling and Health Guide. It is the perfect holiday gift for new parents and is now available at a limited holiday season cost of $9.95 at Amazon.com.

Infant colic and irritability, and the resulting parental sleep deprivation, affects about one million families each year in the United States. Nearly one in four babies has persistent infant irritability caused by colic.

Sounds for Silence was created by Pediatrician, Dr. Harry Zehnwirth to help parents solve infant sleep challenges, parental sleep deprivation and the resulting exhaustion and frustration.

The Sounds for Silence Soundtracks distract, engage and quickly soothe unsettled babies with rhythmical, familiar and reassuring sounds. With a 90 percent success rate, Sounds for Silence is also soothing to parents.

This would have been great for Shaun and Shae when they were babies.  They love music now at bed time and I am sure Sounds of Silence would have helped them on those restless nights when they weren’t able to settle down and get to sleep which was often with the both of them.

The program also comes with the Sounds for Silence Baby Settling and Health Guide. This practical book contains reassuring advice for parents on settling strategies, managing irritability and infant health issues. It is written from a no-nonsense perspective that cuts through the outdated conventions and myths of child-rearing. It is uplifting and reassures parents that they are not alone and their infant’s sleeping challenges are not uncommon.

Dr. Zehnwirth encourages parents to follow their intuition and have confidence to listen to their heart when it comes to fulfilling their baby’s needs. New parents are bombarded with advice from friends and family, as well as outdated and conflicting information, often resulting in them feeling inadequate and guilty. Instead, Dr Zehnwirth and Sounds for Silence supports parents with information, practical strategies and reassurance.
