We Are Using Windows 8

About a week or so ago I got the Windows 8X by HTC and due to my neurotic behavior I decided that all of the computers in our house needed to be accessible and have the ability to work with my phone so I decided it was time to upgrade to Windows 8.

windows-8-logo

At first I was a little hesitant on upgrading but figured since I made the leap with the phone why not with a totally new operating system.  Compared to Windows 7 Windows 8 is totally new but is awesome when you sit down and play around with it.  Its been about a week and I am still learning new things every day and little tips and tricks that make using it a ton easier.

One of my favorite features of Windows 8 are the live tiles.  I love the live tile feature on my pc as well as my phone.  Tiles animate with the latest information. Status updates, weather forecasts, Tweets, and more.  You will see live updates before you even open a single app.

Like I mentioned, in my opinion Windows 8 is really different then all of the other operating systems but in a good way.  It feels more user friendly but you need to be open to change and open to learning new features.

One of the new features that I like a lot is the Search feature.  It allows you to search your PC for different things like apps installed on your PC, settings and documents.  You can also use the search function to find something specific in the app store like your favorite game (mine is Wordament) or app.  I also really like how you can customize your start screen to look exactly how you want so that it fits your own personal style and needs.

Windows 8 overall is awesome but not to say it isn’t without its problems just like anything else but I think once you dive in and play around you will realize that Microsoft has worked very hard to allow the user to make Windows 8 all their own.

Full disclosure, Staples provided me with this copy of Windows 8. The words and opinions expressed in this article are strictly my own. To see the full line of computer software visit Staples.com.

The Perfect Valentine’s Day Treat

It’s hard to believe that the month of January is almost over but it’s even harder to believe that Valentine’s Day is right around the corner.

Melinda and I don’t really celebrate Valentine’s Day in the full sense of the word like flowers, candy and dinner but we do exchange cards and get each other a nice little gift.  Recently I received a nice package full of awesome toffee, brownies/bars and cookies from Harvard Sweet Boutique located in Hudson, MA and I am planning to give Melinda something just like this for Valentine’s Day.  What person wouldn’t like delicious brownies, cookies or toffee?  You couldn’t think of anyone could you, either could I.

Harvard Sweet Boutique was founded in January, 2007, by Susan George.  Her passion for fine baking and recognition of the need for unique gift alternatives helped to mold the idea for the company. Harvard Sweet Boutique has become the indulgence of choice for those who are looking to send the most memorable and sensational gifts.

WP_20130123_006

Awesome box that the treats came in!

In my package that I received all of the items were really really good but my favorite item was the Chocolate-Glazed Macadamia Caramel Shortbread Bar.  Shae and Shaun loved the assortment of cookies and Melinda and Sabreena loved the brownies.  I liked how each item came individually wrapped for total freshness and come in a really nice gift box.

WP_20130123_011

This is what I call awesomeness!

WP_20130123_012

Pure deliciousness!

Now that I have tested a few of the items from Harvard Sweet Boutique I will be sending these to my grandparents for sure.  They LOVE sweets and that is typically what Melinda and I send them for holidays as well as birthdays.  My grandfather can be a real pain when it comes to his sweets but I know after tasting what Harvard Sweet Boutique sent me he won’t have a single complaint.  My grandmother is also going to love the gift box.

I’m glad that Harvard Sweet Boutique reached out to me to do this delicious review because if not I might have missed out on their awesomeness forever.

Fathead – John Cena WWE

Are you or someone you know a huge sports fan? How about a Disney fan or maybe a fan of the Olympics or WWE. If so and aren’t sure what to get them this holiday season Fathead Wall Graphics could be your answer.

fhlogowebblue

Fathead is located in, designed in and manufactured in the USA which is totally awesome. Fathead has been around since the fall of 2005 and headquartered in downtown Detroit

You may be thinking Fathead isn’t for you because you don’t want to ruin your wall but Fathead’s are printed on durable vinyl and are fade-resistant. They are safe for walls and because of the special low tack adhesive it will not leave a film on the wall or pull off the paint when removed. Fatheads are moveable and reusable so if you need to move your Fathead for any reason you can do so fairly easy. Just be sure to keep the liner the Fathead came on and the tube in came in.

Shaun this year really became fascinated with the WWE to the point where he watches Raw every Monday night and plays WWE 13 on the Xbox 360 every chance he gets.  Knowing how much Shaun loves the WWE Melinda and I thought a John Cena Fathead would be a perfect gift for him this Christmas.  The one we selected is huge with the following dimensions: 2’2” wide x 6’7” high.  Putting this WWE Fathead Wall Graphic up is going to take both Melinda and I for sure.  Installing a Fathead is a two person job and trust me on this because Shaun already has one and there is no way I could have installed it without Melinda’s help.

cena

Fathead offers many different sizes so if life size isn’t for you maybe a Fathead Junior which is about 3 foot tall would work.  They also have Teammates, Tradeables, Big Heads, Street Grips as well as laptop skins.  They offer so many different sizes and options in what you can select you are bound to find something that you like for sure.  I saw 4-5 different Fatheads that I would like for myself but my problem is wall space, LOL.

Christmas is right around the corner so click HERE for the 2012 Holiday Shipping Schedule.

I know Shaun is going to be super excited when he opens his Fathead on Christmas morning and I will be sure to do a follow up post once Melinda and I get it up on the wall.

Fannie May Berries Recap

Back on October 19th I was attending a two day event in Chicago and was also invited to attend a Fannie May Chocolate event hosted by Marc Summers.  Due to the travel and lack of food (a grumbling belly) I wasn’t feeling so well and wasn’t able to make the event but a few blogger friends of mine did attend.  I was told that not only did I miss a great event but that I also missed out on a ton of delicious chocolate dipped strawberries and needless to say I was totally bummed.

Thankfully a couple weeks after the event Melinda received an email in regards to doing a recapitulation of the Fannie May Favorites Chocolate Dipped Strawberries and some part of me felt great joy.  I love chocolate covered strawberries so I was very excited when they arrived at our house.

Here is what the 12 strawberries came covered in:

(4) Pixie® Berries: dipped in a divine mix of caramel infused real milk chocolate and covered with crunchy pecans
(4) Trinidad® Berries: dipped in deliciously creamy, real milk chocolate and covered with golden toasted coconut
(4) Mint Meltaway Berries: dipped in luxuriously creamy, mint-infused real white and milk chocolate

I am sitting here trying to figure out which one of the above flavors was my favorite but to be honest all three were my favorite.  I realized why should I limit myself to just one favorite. Here is evidence that they were goooooooood.

empty plate

Fannie May Berries can be ordered and in the customers’ home within 24 hours and includes large, luscious berries that are hand dipped in 100% rich, smooth, Fannie May chocolate. This is such a plus for me because I typically order family members treats as well as food and typically at the last minute so knowing they will get their order within 24 hours makes my life so much easier.

Another cool thing is that Fannie May Berries includes hand crafted indulgent flavor combinations including Sea Salt Milk Chocolate Caramel, Pink & White Champagne, Toasted Coconut & White Chocolate (Trinidad©), Milk Chocolate Caramel & Nuts (Pixies©) and Holiday flavors—Dark Chocolate Gingerbread, Candy Cane and Eggnog. With all of these flavor combinations you are bound to find something for someone either for the holidays, birthdays or just because.

Just in case you aren’t familiar with Fannie May Chocolates:

For nearly a century, Fannie May Chocolates has been bringing you the finest gourmet chocolates, fudge, and candies that have kept them as your favorite traditional chocolate store. Since the first Fannie May chocolate store opened in 1920 Chicago, they have been developing decadent chocolates, using only the premium of ingredients.  They also stand behind our 100% satisfaction guarantee to ensure that the most delicious and high quality of gourmet milk chocolate, gourmet dark chocolate, and gourmet fudge gifts are being sold.

So needless to say this holiday season there will be a lot of family on our holiday list that will be receiving Fannie May Berries.

Do you have someone you would like to send some Fannie May Berries to? If so you are in luck because 1 lucky Look What Mom Found…and Dad too! reader will have the opportunity to win the Fannie May Favorites Chocolate Dipped Strawberries.  All I need you to do is head over to Fannie May and pick another treat that you would love for this holiday season.

Rose Romano’s Italian Peppers instead of sauce

There are a few meals that are a hit in our house, meals that I know I won’t get any arguments, eye rolls or tears. One of these meals is pasta with sausage. The problem is the kids don’t like sauce. This means that this meal has to be watered down with broth or drizzled with oil or I have to cook up some diced tomatoes, garlic and oil just to add moisture to the dish. I don’t like any of these options. Rose Romano’s Italian Peppers were in my pantry for about a day before figuring I could add them to the sausage, peppers and onions and create something entirely new.

Rose Romano’s Italian Gourmet Toppings are a low calorie, gluten-free, locally-sourced gourmet topping made with red or green bell peppers, used on pasta, vegetables, seafood, omelets and sandwiches.

rose romanos italian peppers sauce
I added about 1/2 cup of the red pepper sauce to the final few minutes of cooking. Since my kids don’t like their pasta very saucy I wanted to add just enough to bring the meal together but not to much so that there was anything left in the bowl.

They loved it. I got a few looks when I presented it but assured them it wasn’t regular sauce, it was better. It was so good in fact that I never got a picture of the in a bowl AND there were no leftovers. Rob depends on leftovers for a good lunch at work but his family let him down this day.

Rob and I have been mixing it with our pizza sauce on Fridays. At first he didn’t sound very keen on changing up the routine I’ve built for the past 5 1/2 years but after 2 weeks he noted that it gives it a unique flavor, much better than our traditional pizza sauce.

I received 4 jars of Rose Romano’s Italian Gourmet Topping in a really gorgeous wooden box (that I’m totally re-purposing into a family shadow box). I’ve used 2 jars so far and am getting nervous that I’m going to out soon.

rose romano's italian peppers in a box

Rose Romano’s is a local business started by Michael Angotti and his family. A business that started from a love of simple delicious food.  Marshall Angotti recalls memories of spending his youth prepping, washing and cutting peppers for his families grocery stores.  It came naturally for him to start his own brand using the same attention to detail and focus on flavor that his family did many years ago. The end result is a refined, sophisticated blend of tomatoes, peppers and spice.  For more ideas of how these Italian peppers can be used in your own home take a peek at the recipes they created for quick and delicious meals.

For that foodie in your life I would highly suggest Rose Romano’s Italian Gourmet Toppings. I call it a sauce but it’s so much more than that.

Annie’s New Rising Crust Pizza

I wrote a post on 10/17 that you can read HERE about the Annie’s Pizza Tour and I was excited to see them when they stopped in Philadelphia on October 27 and 28. We weren’t able to make it to the Saturday event so we planned to hit the Sunday event at Linvilla Orchards.  The only problem with the Sunday event was that Hurricane Sandy was making her way to the east coast so the event ended up getting cancelled which was a bummer.  I was really looking forward to seeing the organic garden in the truck and to get a few samples of their pizza. Thankfully my local ShopRite had all three pizzas and we tried them all last night for dinner.

The three pizzas that Annie’s offers are:

  • Uncured Pepperoni Pizza – features an organic rising crust made with whole grains, savory organic tomato sauce, uncured pepperoni, mozzarella & provolone cheeses.
  • BBQ Recipe Chicken Pizza – has an organic crust made with whole grains and is topped with Annie’s Organic Sweet & Spicy BBQ sauce, white meat chicken, mozzarella & provolone cheeses, and organic roasted red onions.
  • Four Cheese Pizza – organic crust is made with whole grains, and on top we add savory organic tomato sauce and a blend of four cheeses including mozzarella, provolone, parmesan and romano.

All three pizzas were pretty tasty but my favorite was the BBQ recipe chicken pizza by far. I love chicken and BBQ sauce and I really like that combination on pizza.  I also tried the pepperoni and the cheese and enjoyed them as well but like I mentioned my fav was the BBQ recipe chicken pizza.  All three kids enjoyed the pepperoni as well as the cheese which is what I figured because they usually don’t step outside of their comfort zone when it comes to pizza, LOL.

All in all I was really impressed with all three Annie’s Pizza.  The only thing that I had a problem with was finding the pizza.  Melinda and I went to three different stores before finding them at ShopRite on sale for $6.99 per pizza down from $9.99 per pizza. I understand the product is still new and over time they will be easier to find in the freezer isle at your local grocery store which is a good thing.

The Parking Spot Recap

This past weekend I took an awesome trip to Chicago for the Kenmore 2012 Fall Blogger Summit and I had the opportunity to leave my car at The Parking Spot while I was on my trip.

Typically when I fly I tend to use the same parking lot and have done so for the last few years so I will admit that I was a little skeptical trying somewhere new. Now I know you might say it’s only a parking lot but I like knowing that my car is safe and will be in the same condition that I left it when I return back from my trip. Parking in the same lot for the last few years has given me a certain comfort level because I know how their overall process works but I stepped outside of my comfort zone and gave The Parking Spot a try and I am glad I did.

One day early last week I went to their web site to make a reservation which took only a few minutes because I wanted to make sure that the lot wouldn’t be full the day I arrived. The Parking Spot offers self-parking and valet parking at very reasonable prices and thankfully I decided on valet parking because when I arrived to the lot in Philadelphia on Friday it was pouring rain so needless to say it was nice to have a nice dry garage to pull into and unload all of my luggage. After I unloaded my luggage the attendant took my car and I waited for the shuttle to pick me up and take me to the airport. One of the things that I really liked besides the garage since it was pouring was that they offered free bottles of water as well as free copies of the USA Today (which I read on the way to Chicago). Most of the time it’s the little things that make an experience that much more enjoyable.

I was gone for two days and when I arrived back to Philly the process was super simple. I needed to wait in a certain zone at the airport and the shuttle just showed up. I called and was told a shuttle comes by approximately every seven minutes which means you won’t have to wait very long to be picked up. When I arrived back to the lot I was dropped off inside the valet garage and the attendant got my car for me and I was off. It was really that simple. After I settled up with the person and was about to pull away she handed me a bottle of water and told me to have a nice day. Again it’s the little things and I was so happy because after getting to the airport for a 6am flight and not having time to eat that bottle of water was refreshing and made my experience at The Parking Spot that much more enjoyable.

The Parking Spot, the nation’s largest near-airport parking operator, is now offering travelers up to 25 percent off parking as part of its “More Spots, More Savings” national promotion. With more than 35 locations at 22 U.S. airports, it’s now easier than ever to take advantage of low airfares and plan a getaway.

For this trip I stepped outside of my comfort zone and I am glad I did because The Parking Spot is now my new place to park when traveling from the Philadelphia airport.

Will you be traveling soon?  If so today is your lucky day because one Look What Mom Found… and Dad too! reader will have the chance to win a voucher good for one week of free parking (valid for either self-park or valet) at any of the locations at the following U.S. airports : Atlanta Hartsfield, Austin Bergstrom, Buffalo – Niagara, Dallas Fort Worth, Dallas Love Field, Denver International, Houston Hobby, Houston George Bush Intercontinental, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Memphis, Nashville, Newark, New York JFK, Oklahoma City Will Rogers, Orlando, Philadelphia, Phoenix Sky Harbor, Pittsburgh, Port Columbus, and Lambert -St. Louis. All you have to do is tell me where you are planning on going for your next trip.

Minute Clinic Saves You Time

Shaun started football August 1st and so far he is doing awesome but before he was able to start we needed to get him a sports physical which is required by the league. I can totally understand since football is a contact sport the league wants to make sure that all of the kids are in good physical condition to play the game.

You may have read in the past that we DON’T have medical insurance which totally sucks but we make do and make sure the kids are healthy and see the doctor when necessary. Recently I was approached by Minute Clinic and asked if I wanted to take Shaun in for a free physical. Considering we have no health insurance and his physical was going to be paid out of my pocket I jumped at the opportunity and I am glad I did. MinuteClinic made the whole physical process very easy and stress free.

Minute Clinic makes it easy for people on the go because they do not require an appointment and they have evening and weekend hours which was perfect for us because our primary doctor couldn’t see Shaun for a few weeks and the only time I was able to take Shaun was first thing on a Saturday morning.

MinuteClinic is a division of CVS Caremark Corporation which launched the first retail health care centers in the United States in 2000 and is the first provider to establish a national presence, with approximately 600 locations across 25 states. MinuteClinic makes health care easier for people with a lot going on. Our family of nurse practitioners and physician assistants provide quality care every day, with convenient evening and weekend hours. We accept insurance and you don’t need an appointment. Just stop in when you need us.

The Minute Clinic we visited was in Springfield PA and we went first thing on a Saturday morning and when we arrived there was no wait. Like all doctor’s visits there were a few forms to fill out but we got right in and the physical went really smooth. The physician did a battery of tests on Shaun to determine that he was ok and healthy enough the play football and we were on our way. I would say the total visit took less than an hour.

Minute Clinic’s are located within CVS locations but don’t think they aren’t a real doctor’s office since they are inside a CVS because that isn’t true for a second. I feel Shaun got exception service and the service was no different than he would have gotten at his primary care physician but it was a lot cheaper. Sports physicals for a limited time are only $49. How can you bet that?

Minute Clinic does everything from minor illness exams to vaccinations to labs and tests. For a full list of services they offer click HERE!

Before this visit I didn’t know that Minute Clinic existed but now that I do I will be using them in the future for sure.

TinyLove 3-in-1 Rocker-Napper Evulation

With baby boy on his way in just a few weeks I’m really starting to gear up and get the things we need for him. However, adding another person and all his baby stuff in our already cramped house is starting to pose some problems. So whenever I can find something that has more than one purpose and will grow with him, I jump at it.

That’s why I was so excited to see the 3-in-1 Rocker-Napper from TinyLove. It’s a rocker, bassinet/napper and a versatile seat all in one. Set up was quite easy. It took me about 1/2 hour from start to finish. The directions come in almost every language and had diagrams and written instructions for every step. There is also a short video explaining how to assemble at on TinyLove’s website. The only thing you need is a phillips head screwdriver, 3 AAA batteries and 1 C battery. The Rocker/Napper adjusts very easily with one hand between all 3 seat position, which will be very helpfulwhen your holding a baby and trying to adjust the rocker in a different position before putting him down.

It also has a toy arm which has lights and toys attached and plays music and sounds to help soothe or entertain baby with adjustable volume. The rocker vibrates as well throughout the entire seat to help calm any fussy baby. However, it only has one setting on the vibrations. I think it would be nice to have at least 2 setting to be able to adjust the speed of vibrating. I think what I’m most excited about is having a nice comfy bassinet for the baby to sleep in and not taking up half the room that a traditional bassinet would do. I know he is definitely going to get a lot of use out of this rocker since he can use it until he’s up to 40 lbs. There will be a lot of rocking, napping and quick feedings once he starts sitting up in this very versatile rocker/napper/seat.

Tiny Love is giving a LookWhatMomFound…and Dad too! reader their own 3-in-1 Rocker Napper ($100 value).  Visit Tiny Love and choose another product that you would love to have for a baby you know.

ROKU 2 XS Streaming Player Giveaway

In our bedroom we have a really old television that I won when I was still working over 12 years ago. It’s a 32 inch television and it gets the job done. We only use it really at bed time or when the kids are sick they like to stay in our bed all day and watch TV. The only real problem is that it has none of the conveniences of today’s technology. There’s no inputs for internet connection so we can’t watch our Netflix’s account.

When I heard of the ROKU 2 XS Streaming Player I was a little skeptical that it would even work on such an old television. However, the box clearly states that it “works with virtually any TV.” I also assumed that it was going to be well out of my comfort zone to hook up. I’m not completely technologically illiterate, I usually can figure most things out after a while, but I really thought this was going to be way out of my league. That definitely wasn’t the case here, all that was in the box was the ROKU player, remote control, A/V cable and a power adapter. Since we don’t have any input outlets on the TV because it’s so old but we do have a dvd player hooked up to the TV, I just plugged the A/V cable into the dvd player. Then, I plug the power adapter into the outlet and that was it. I turned the TV on and after about 5 minutes of registering the ROKU and connected it our wireless router it was up and running.

Now we can access Netflix, we can listen to Pandora, and the kids can play Angry Birds all day long. There are also hundreds of applications that you can add, such as news channels, Hulu Plus, HBO GO, Crackle and Disney Channel. Some apps are free while others do charge a fee. Now the girls can’t wait to be home sick from school now. Their options are limitless now since they love Netflix’s and could play Angry Birds all from the comforts of a bed.

Roku is giving a LookWhatMomFound…and Dad too! reader a Roku 2 XS (value $99.99). Let me know what channel you’d be most excited to watch.
