2015 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring AWD Recap #DriveSTI

2014 disclosure

Exterior
I have reviewed Kia’s, Ford’s, Mitsubishi’s and now I can add Mazda’s to my list.  Back in June we reviewed the 2014 Mazda3 S Grand Touring 5 door which we really liked and this time we reviewed the 2015 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring AWD which was a really nice vehicle.

Interior

This is only my second time driving a Mazda and I must admit I really liked how they felt, drove and handled.  If I was in the market for a new vehicle I would be buying either a Mazda3 or Mazda CX-5 for sure.  But since I am not in the market let me just dream and tell you what I thought about the Mazda CX-5.

The Mazda CX-5 wais loaded and I mean loaded with awesome features like push button engine start (which I love), dual zone auto climate control (which rocks since Melinda is always cold and I am always sweating), bluetooth hands free phone/audio, Skyactive technology, sweet audio system plus a ton of other stuff.

Every vehicle we have reviewed including the Mazda CX-5 has had Sirius satellite radio which never gets old because I love all of the different types of music offered as well as Howard Stern.  I also loved the touch screen display with navigation and back up camera so I could see what was behind me.

Legroom

We are a family of 5 so having plenty of leg and cargo room is essential and the Mazda CX-5 didn’t disappoint.  Shaun (11 yrs old) and I are pretty tall dudes (me – 6’3 and Shaun – 5’6) and we fit in the Mazda just fine so that means if we are able to fit and be comfortable anyone can fit and be comfortable. I also loved the leather interior and the front heated seats.  It’s summer and hot here in Delaware so I didn’t test the heated seats but after the winter we just had I would have killed for heated front seats, LOL.

Trunk Space

The Mazda CX-5 had so many features that I didn’t get to test every single one but I did test as many as I could.  I feel it takes months to discover everything that a new vehicle has to offer but like I mentioned I really liked every feature that I was able to test.

Overall the Mazda CX-5 was an awesome vehicle that didn’t disappoint and I would give it 5 stars.  It met all of our families needs and wants and didn’t lack in comfort what so ever.

2014 Mazda3 S Grand Touring 5-door Recap #DriveSTI

2014 disclosure

My two favorite smells are pizza and new car smell, LOL.  I know that sounds weird but who doesn’t love a new car and how it smells as well as pizza?  A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of test driving the 2014 Mazda3 s Grand Touring 5-door and I must say I was really impressed.

mazda

I have never driven a Mazda and to be honest I’m not sure that I have ever even driven in a Mazda but I was really happy and enjoyed the driving experience.  My typical problem with a new car is it’s difficult learning all the new features of a car but the Mazda seemed like it was laid out really well and it was easy to learn.

This car was loaded with features like leather seats attractive red stitching, satellite radio, Mazda Connect infotainment system, active driving display (shows your speed & navigation on the small flip up screen so you don’t have to look down), navigation, power everything and the list goes on and on.  I will say that this Mazda wasn’t lacking when it came to features.  It had just about everything a person would need in a car.

Like I said the Mazda was a blast to drive; It handled awesome and the pickup was really amazing.  I enjoyed all of the head and legroom that the Mazda had to offer since I am 6’3 and a roomy car is a must.

headroom

In addition to the awesome head and leg room the truck was ridiculously huge.  As you can see from the below picture Melinda was able to fit $350 worth of groceries in the trunk with no problem at all.  We also used the Mazda to go to one of Shaun’s lacrosse games and the truck easily accommodated all of his gear as well as chairs, a cooler and a ton of other stuff that we needed for the day.

We had the opportunity to test how well the Mazda did on gas because Shaun had a lacrosse game 2 hours away one way and let me tell you it did awesome.  It was inexpensive to fill and it seemed like it went forever on a tank of gas which is great compared to our vehicles.

My overall experience with the 2014 Mazda3 S Grand Touring 5-door was very very positive and I would recommend anyone looking to buy a new car to give this Mazda a look because it will not disappoint.

We’re still a couple years away from getting away from the minivan but this would be a great 2nd car.

Dad Is Stressing Big Time Here!!!

Sabreena just turned 15 which means next year she will take drivers ed in school (unless DE changes the law) and getting her drivers license and to be honest I am stressed big time.

Getting insurance, a car and just the fact that she is 16 and will be driving scares the crap out of me.  She is an extremely smart kid but that doesn’t comfort me when she is out on the road.  With friends in the car and text messaging young drivers have so many distractions on top of the fact that are just learning to drive makes me nervous to let Sabreena behind the wheel.

I think I was 17 maybe 18 before I got my driver’s license and to me that still seems young.  I know I am probably blowing this out of proportion but this is my baby girl we are talking about and letting her get behind the wheel of a motor vehicle alone with NO supervision worries me.  Maybe it is the father in me but who knows but I just want her to be safe and responsible when behind the wheel of a car.

No wonder I have so many grey hairs at the age of 36. LOL.

Do you have a child that is about to start driving in the next year or two? If so what are your feelings? Am I crazy to feel the way I am feeling?

My Kids Love Stinky

Shaun and Shae like to play with Matchbox cars and when we were offered Stinky the Garbage Truck for review we jumped at the opportunity. What was funny is I thought that Stinky would be a regular size matchbox car but realized it was not but instead it was a large talking garbage truck.

Stinky the Garbage Truck is the newest addition to the Big Rig Buddies line with a larger than life personality. Stinky has over 90 funny phrases and sounds that will be sure to keep the kids entertained. This interactive buddy talks, tells jokes, eats, exercises and sings. This interactive play pattern encourages cooperative play and friendship-building skills. Stinky the Garbage Truck also functions as a freewheeling garbage truck for push-around play.

Here are a few features of Matchbox Stinky the Garbage Truck:
  • Sound Activation
  • Motion Sensor
  • Direction Sensor
  • Container Sensor
  • Belly Sensor
  • Speakers and Motorized Movement

Right out of the box Stinky the Garbage Truck was ready to go since it already came with batteries installed. Shaun and Shae were excited to get there hands on Stinky when it arrived and were hovering around me while I was opening it. Once it was out of the box they immediately began to play with it making it move, talk and sing. The only complaint Shaun and Shae had about Stinky the Garbage Truck was that it was kind of hard to understand what he was saying and I have to agree. I could tell what he was saying some of the time but it was hard so I would assume younger kids would have a hard time understanding as well. Other then that little situation Stinky the Garbage Truck is an awesome toy that my kids LOVE. Stinky would make a great gift this holiday season so be sure to check him out. He retails for $59.99 at most major retailers.

2010 Ford Taurus Test Drive Opportunity

Last week we received the 2010 Ford Taurus SEL for review from Ford Motor Company to be Ford Bloggers. We are Ford lovers to begin with and in the past we owned a 2002 Ford Taurus but traded it in for a Ford Freestar minivan because we needed the space. We loved our Taurus but we also love our Ford minivan.
I was sad a few years ago when Ford announced they were no longer going to be producing the Taurus because I felt it was a great family car and it had a five star crash rating and to me that is the most important feature of any car. After a few years they came back with the redesigned Taurus and left me tell you they didn’t disappoint. When I can home the first day the car was delivered to my house I was wowed. It looked sharp with a very sleek and sporty look. The interior was totally redesigned with the driver in mind. When sitting in the driver’s seat I felt like I was in the cockpit of a airplane. All of the controls are within reach which makes for a very comfortable trip.

The Taurus I had for review had leather interior with duel front heated seats, cruise control, Microsoft Sync, Sirius Radio, rear backup camera and the list goes on and on. Check out my video below and our hashtag on Twitter #fordtestdrive for a firsthand look at the vehicle that we got to test drive for the week.

If you are in the market for a new vehicle that you will be excited to drive everyday check out Ford and give the Taurus a drive. You will be happy you did and you will never look back.

2010 Ford Taurus – Awesome Car!

Today the 2010 Blue Steel Ford Taurus we are reviewing was delivered to the house and let me tell you I was very excited.  As soon as I got home from work the first thing I wanted to do was take the car for a test drive but we needed to eat dinner first.  After dinner we hopped in the Taurus and headed to Cold Stone for some ice cream.

Today we are heading to Washington, D.C to attend the Smithsonian 44th annual Kite Festival and will get to really test drive the car.  We are really excited to see how it treats us on our trip but from I can see so far it should do just fine.

Ford’s are not new to us as we are already Ford lovers.  We own a 05 Freestar and have owned a Taurus in the past.  I would love to get rid of my 07 Chevy HHR and replace it with the Taurus I am driving right now.

We will be doing more posts about the car and our adventures we take in it.

Stay tuned.
