Tackling the Tough Jobs with Magic Erasers #Giveaway

Mr Clean tackles a Million jobs #MrCleanMillion #DDDivas Being the man of the house means many of the “dirty deeds” are left for me. This means working on anything from changing high lightbulbs to cleaning bugs from the garage to hosing down garbage cans. I depend on my own handyman skills and know how but also know when to get help.

Just this weekend I tackled some of the dirtiest or toughest jobs around the house. I brought along some of the best products out there, assortment of  Mr. Clean Magic Erasers.  In every room of the house (and beyond) a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser can be used to clean the grimiest of messes. We have them stashed in each bathroom and in a basket under the kitchen sink. I’d have them in my garage if I has easy access to water there too.

Mr Clean Magic Eraser tackles a Million jobs #MrCleanMillion #DDDivas So while Melinda is out with her family today I’m here working on my “Honey Do” list armed with cleaners, rags and a supply of Mr. Clean Magic Erasers. This weekend’s tasks included

  • Cleaning the wheels on Melinda’s car
  • Sanitizing Shaun’s lacrosse and football equipment
  • Clearing the film from the headlights so the lights would shine better
  • Tackling the soap scum build up on our shower doors
  • Wiping leftover food from the microwave
  • Getting rid of baked on food on ceramic cooktop
  • Sprucing up garden storage box
  • Cleaning out the dog’s crates
  • Wiping dog nose prints from kitchen door
  • Spraying down lawn furniture
  • Cleaning the weird film off the backs of dishes

Sounds like a big list doesn’t it. Most of them were simple tasks that required just a few minutes. Some were a bit more labor intensive. The cleaning of the dishes was one those more involved chores. I left it for the teen. For some reason (I’m guessing because both sides of the dishes are wiped before going into the dishwasher) or dishes developed a brown film on the underside of them. This happened on our plastic cups too. The Mr. Clean Magic Eraser Kitchen Scrubber took all the grime off with a little elbow grease.

The rest of the chores got done too. Melinda came home that day to an exhausted husband but a super clean home.  Mr. Clean Magic Erasers aren’t just for crayon smudges and kitchen counters. We use them in our entire home, inside and out. Best part is they are reasonably prices and available EVERYWHERE. Attack your dirtiest mess with a magic eraser and see the results for yourself.

Melinda’s headed into the kitchen to see how clean she can get her cookie sheets and glassware from baked on cooking spray.

Find out for yourself how Mr Clean is can help you clean a million messes around the house with a Mr Clean Magic Eraser giveaway. Enter to win by telling us one of the first jobs you’d like to tackle or something you’ve already cleaned with the help of Mr. Clean Magic Erasers.

I Assassinate Bacteria with Violight ZapiPOP

Literally kill bacteria that settles on your toothbrush with a swift karate kick of ultraviolet light. Violight carries a collection of toothbrush sanitizers for the whole family. At first thought who thinks they need to clean their toothbrush but when you think of the area it shares a good scrubbing is a fantastic idea.  Violight UV toothbrush sanitizers eliminate 99.9% of germs including strep, e-coli and H1N1.

Researchers have found more than 10,000,000 bacteria living on a single toothbrush. Droplets produced by flushing toilets can harbor bacteria and viruses that can remain airborne long enough to settle on surfaces. Viruses that cause colds, flu, and fever blisters can survive for many days on toothbrushes. Gross huh!

This is why Violight offers a solution for everyone. We received the Violight Hi-Ya, a cute ninja dressed bulb that is designed to sanitize a single toothbrush in a few minutes. There are also a countertop model that holds and disinfects 4 toothbrushes at once, this is perfect for the kid’s bathroom or those shared by families.

I remember last winter after each cold or sore throat we would replace toothbrushes. Sometimes we replaced one kid’s toothbrush 3 times in as many months. We could’ve saved ourselves those toothbrushes with a quick sanitizing instead. Also the kid’s toothbrushes share a cup; they end up touching each other and sharing germs. Now before bed I place each toothbrush in the Ninja for a quick cleaning and do our whole toothbrushing routine without the nasty stuff.

Right now receive a free iZap Travel Toothbrush Sanitizer with ANY other Sanitizer purchase; only good for October.

Bissell Steam Mop for Green Cleaning

Having a clean home is something I take pride in. I mean yes there is clutter sometimes; magazines, toys, coats, shoes, all those normal things you get with 5 people living in one house. I’m talking clean as in no spills, dirt, grime, mold, dust and grunge in our living space. Years ago we made some switches to “green” cleaning for a healthier clean. One of our most recent additions is the Bissel Steam Mop.

Is it possible to love an appliance, I mean really love it! I do! This thing is awesome. It gets used every day on our kitchen tile and weekly on our bathroom tile and a couple times a week in the living room hardwood. My father has one too and now so does my sister’ it’s a family affair.

The Bissel Steam Mop is the simplest floor cleaner ever. Simply fill the reservoir with water, plug in and wait just a minute or two. I’m not lying; I really mean a minute or two. As soon as the red light comes on it’s ready to go with pure, clean, chemical-free steam. Anything sticky wipes up with ease and bacteria laden bathrooms are sparkling. It’s also really lightweight so carrying it from floor to floor is a cinch. The best “green” cleaning tool on the market!

Back to School Seventh Generation Cleaning Kit Giveaway-CLOSED

With the kids going back to school in couple short weeks they’ll be bringing home more than just test scores. According to the CDC nearly 22 million school days are missed each year due to the common cold and flu. It’s time to fight back without destroying the planet. Seventh Generation’s complete line of cleaning supplies are a natural, non-toxic solution to bleaches and other harmful disinfectants. Using botanicals is a clean way to kill germs and wash away dirt on a daily basis.

This school year, Seventh Generation is sharing tips from best-selling author and pediatrician, Dr. Alan Greene, to help parents protect their child’s health during back-to-school season. Dr. Greene suggests taking the following precautions:

Optimize the immune system

  • Reap the benefits of probiotics like those found in yogurt. A recent study showed that children who received enough probiotics daily throughout the cold and flu season had a significant reduction in the number of illnesses they had and, when they did get sick, the symptoms were both milder and didn’t last as long.
  • Be sure your child is getting plenty of vitamin D from the sun, from food, or from a supplement.
  • Build a strong foundation. Good food, good sleep, and good physical activity all help the immune system to flourish.

Be wise about reducing unnecessary exposure to harmful germs

  • Teach children the key times to clean their hands in the classroom. The most important times include after sneezing, coughing or using the restroom, upon leaving “high-risk” places (recess, naptime, play stations) and before meals or snacks.
  • Sixty percent of teachers surveyed said that they request that parents donate disinfecting wipes to the classroom. Seventh Generation’s disinfecting wipes kill 99.99% of germs* naturally using the active ingredient thyme, a component of thyme oil which is derived from the herb thyme.
  • Stress the importance of not touching their eyes, nose or mouth. Germs are often spread when a person touches something that is contaminated with germs and then touches his or her eyes, nose, or mouth.
  • Demonstrate to your children how to cover their mouth and nose for every cough and sneeze. This simple maneuver has spectacular results in decreasing the spread of viruses and bacteria floating about the room, waiting to be inhaled.

Start the school year off on the right foot with a Seventh Generation “Back-to-School” kit that includes everything shown in the picture above. We received one as part of this promotion and I set it aside to provide to Shaun’s new teacher. Win a whole kit for yourself or to donate to your child’s school. Visit Seventh Generation and come back and tell me another product you would like to try in your own home.

Oreck Platinum Pilot Vacuum Recap

In and Out, In and Out, In and Out

That’s the kids and I now that the weather is nice. We go to the park then come home for a snack then head out to take a walk then come back for a nap then out to meet Shaun at the bustop then back in till after dinner for some last minute daylight running around. All of this in and out means dirt tracked in the house and kitchen. The Oreck Platinum Pilot is my new favorite vacuum!

We’ve been using another vacuum for a few months and it’s been heaven but I might have to say I like the Oreck Platinum Pilot just a bit more. Saying this has great suction is an understatement; I have to hold down the small rugs because the Oreck will drag them out of their spot its suction is so strong; 102 mph airflow strong. I also love that it’s lighter and quieter than our other vacuum. I can actually hold a conversation while vacuuming. I’m not saying I can talk on the phone while vacuuming but I can easily talk to the kids or Rob when it’s on especially it’s lower of 2 speeds. Carrying it up and down the steps is a breeze too, 6 lbs is a big difference.

Excellent for allergen control, the HEPA filtration system traps up to 99.9 percent of dust and allergens down to 0.3 microns. The Saniseal vacuum bag system seals the bag shut, locking in dirt, dust and allergens, unlike dust cups in bagless vacuums that can leak particles back into the home, onto hands, into the eyes and face when emptied, according to Oreck Corporation research. Changing Oreck bags is effortless, odorless and clean. Oreck bags help eliminate pet odors and other stubborn smells, and can hold as much dirt and dust as four bagless dust cups.
The one thing that I’m not crazy about is that I have to always have bags on hand. I like the fact that canisters than can be emptied and you are on your way. I don’t want to worry about Sabreena using the last bag and not telling us to restock.

The Oreck Platinum Pilot has 360˚ Glide Technology which allows you to tilt, twist, turn and move easily around furniture and walls. While it does pivot around the coffee table and sofa I feel our other vacuum has better turn on the dime maneuverability.

It’s not fancy or flashy or brightly colored. It’s a vacuum and it looks like a vacuum and works like a vacuum should. Win your own Oreck Platinum Pilot ($599 value) here at LookWhatMomFound…and Dad too! Visit Oreck and tell me another product you would love to try.

Seventh Generation Cleaning Kit Recap

Green cleaning starts with non-toxic products without losing their ability to kill germs and remove dirt and grime. Seventh Generation is a leader in the manufacturing of eco-conscious and sustainable home and family care products. I knew about their baby care items when Shae was a baby but we cloth diapered her so I didn’t need chlorine free/dye free diapers. Now they have a complete cleaning selection that covers the kitchen, bath and laundry.
I’ve been considering some of these products over the last couple weeks and have liked the results so far. The one thing I don’t like is the after smell of the Lemongrass and Thyme Disinfecting cleaners and wipes. It starts off just fine with a natural woodsy scent but the lingering smell is too strong and almost chemical like. If they could do a more citrus smell I’d be all over it.
Regardless of my dislike of the smell Seventh Generation disinfecting cleaners they do kill over 99.99% of household germs, specifically: Influenza A, H1N1, Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella enterica, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli on hard, nonporous surfaces. With kids in the house and their sometimes lack of hygiene and manners this is a HUGE bonus.
Seventh Generation operates with a very clear focus.
The Change We Want to See

  • Restore the environment
  • Inspire conscious consumption
  • Create a just and equitable world

The Different Way We Operate

  • Systems thinking
  • Radical transparency
  • Influence beyond our size

These things make Seventh Generation different than other household cleaning products. From the very beginning, Seventh Generation has pushed to have a real impact on competitors, suppliers, communities, and government. Products may be the vehicle, but far-reaching, genuine change is the mission.
Seventh Generation is offering LookWhatMomFound…and Dad too! readers the chance to win a complete cleaning kit to celebrate Earth Day. The kit includes:

  • Disinfecting Multi-Surface Cleaner
  • Disinfecting Bathroom Cleaner
