A Guide to Getting The Perfect Guy Gift

Finding the perfect birthday gift for the men in your life can be very tricky. Men just don’t seem to appreciate the thoughtful gifts we think are so precious. So we run everywhere and do everything in our power to get the perfect gift, and it seems like whatever we do, we still miss that pleasure target. But getting that special guy the right birthday gift is not so difficult. When you have all the right information, it’s easy to find the gift he will love.

The fact is that men and women see presents differently. Most men enjoy receiving a gift but they would like for it to be something they can use, something that interests them. If you get it right, they will be surprised and impressed with your efforts. It’s easy. Don’t guess yourself into frustration. All you have to do is think about their needs.

His Needs

Ask yourself this. Are there things that help him enjoy his free time, or is there something that may help him perform better at work? Does he need something that will help him stay organized? Does he play golf? Does he love horses? Is he in outdoorsman? These are all questions you need to ask yourself when getting him a gift that supports his interests and activities. This is the gift that will get you that “wow” factor.

Stop Overthinking It

Guys are straightforward and they will usually tell you what they need when asked. Sometimes, at least in their case, less is more. Don’t overanalyze it. Just get him something that goes with his lifestyle. Observe the things he likes to buy for himself. For example, if he likes video games, buy him something related to gaming. If he likes basketball, a t-shirt of his favorite team will be the perfect gift. Just remember that what you choose really depends on the things that he enjoys in his life. Still at a loss? Think about the type of work he does. A manager, a doctor, or a lawyer is going to have different needs than a rancher or an outdoorsman. For instance, you might get a doctor an organizational calendar or an app that helps him organize his daily routines. A sales manager might like something to decorate his office. Whereas, a horse trainer or outdoorsman might enjoy a new pair of Ariat men’s cowboy boots. Think according to the career or interests your man has.

Imagine that your guy loves to spend time doing woodwork, or just hanging out with the tools in the garage. This is an indication of the perfect gift. Look at the stuff he uses to organize tools. Does he need a new tool organizer? Go out and look at his shop and see if any of the tools look old and worn. Listen to the man’s conversation and see if he complains about a tool that’s not working well. Check to see if he uses a particular brand of tools. Consider buying him a new tool to replace the old one.

For The Guy Who Has a Specific Interest

This is the guy who has a specific interest in cars, sneakers, sports teams, or high-tech stuff. Of course, it can be hard to choose a gift for this type of person because you don’t really know the types of things he already has. Nor do you know anything about the brands he wants. So how are you going to choose the perfect gift for him?

You could play detective and check what’s in his Amazon’s wishlist or diary. But if you don’t want to go sneaky, his interests would unveil away what he wants. Does he go out every weekend to play golf? A golf simulator is your best bet. Is he spending a lot of time with his car? Try getting him car parts.

In this case, you want to think about getting him an interesting accessory or something that helps him take care of the things that he enjoys. For instance, if he loves cars, you might want to think about getting him a car detailing kit. If he is a tech expert think about getting him a case for his new laptop. Each year I struggle with some of the same few people on my shopping list; Rob and my Dad. Both of them need nothing. Both of them get the things they want and need througout the year so gift giving ends up being a game of frivolous versus tear jerker. So how do you look for gifts for dad who has everything?

My dad is sentimental so anything that can possibly make him cry is a win. It’s often a contest between me and my sister on who can make him cry on Father’s Day.

Rob has a sentimental streak too but he loves more useful items too. He likes to tinker and game and have great shoes and loves watches.

Here is a list of my best gift giving ideas for every man in your life

Unique and Special Gifts for the Man who has Everything

Cufflinks

Every man deserves at least one pair of cuff links. Regardless if he’s a stock broker or a mechanic the opportunity may arise one day they he needs to wear cuff links. Make them personal with his initials or special shape.

Beer Making Kit

Even if he isn’t a brew master maybe this is the kick he needs to start a new hobby.

Scarf

Keep it simple. Men don’t need chunky knits or bold patterns or embellishments. Gift something soft and neutral to go with jeans or a suit jacket. Find something that will last and remind him of who gave it to him each time he wears it.

Whether he needs it for his desk or on the go find the perfect mug for his coffee, tea or bourbon to complete his drinking ritual.

For the sentimental guy, gift something that he’ll treasure and use daily. Engrave anything from a guitar pic, cross to dog tog with a message of your choice. My shopping advice for this is Etsy.

These are just a few ideas of my own that the guys in my life would enjoy. Take them and spin them into something that fits for the men you love. What’s on your shopping list for those special men.

Fun with Outdoor Toys

Our weekends are our time to spend not just as a family but as part of a close knit community that actually gets together to do things as a group. Friday and Saturday nights are our bonfire night. We share the duties with our neighbors, we all pitch in with s’more’s supplies, pie iron ingredients and even toys and games for the kids.

For months we’ve been hijacking one little boy’s light up bow and arrow set. The kids get a kick out of playing it at night so they have an excuse to play in the dark. They’ve made up rules and a point system with prizes of extra marshmallows or who gets to pick the movie when it’s time to go in.

There’s no more having to borrow anymore. Sabreena, Shae and Shaun are now enjoying their own ZING Air Storm Firetek Bow. This high performance but low tech toy is exactly what the kids love to so outdoors.

Maybe it was the introduction of the movie Brave but bows of all kinds are hot. In our community alone about 6 families have some version of a bow & arrow set that they bring out to play with.

This particular one has a light up feature that allows the kids to play at night. It’s bright enough that they can shoot it across the field so everyone goes scrambling. The materials are very kid friendly too. Made of lightweight plastics and foam no one is getting hurt at least not seriously.

Besides the night time light up feature the kids also get a kick out of the whistle as the arrow goes flying through the air. It’s the indicator that it has gone fast and far.

for about $30 (affiliate link) this is a great toy for boy or girl, at least the age of 6 even though packaging says 8. I’d even say a dexterous 5 year old could have lots of fun once they managed the right hand eye coordination.

The fun doesn’t stop there for great outdoor toys. The kids love playing all kinds of hunting, shooting, capture, war games. The Dart Zone Scorpion Gatling Blaster is a fully automatic motorized foam dart gun that has a rapid fire action for high intensity games. I’m a witness to say these sting a bit when you’re hit but that doesn’t deter the rougher boys of the group. The girls weren’t a fan.

Unfortunately like most of our dart gun toys we’ve lost most of the foam darts. The kids have a couple acres to run around and play but they aren’t good about retracing steps to find the casualties. Finding replacements online is proving to be a touch difficult. Hopefully by spring we can replenish our supply for a season of fun.

Little Girls Gift Guide for the Holidays

Having a little girl of our own I think we have a good grasp of what would make great gifts for the holidays or everyday. Below are a few things that we think most little girls age 2-8 would really appreciate and actually use.
