Happy Anniversary The Very Hungry Caterpillar plus #giveaway

We should cherish the classics. This includes music, movies, art and books. The Very Hungry Caterpillar is a classic children’s book in our house. In fact each child has had their own copy growing up.

the very hungry caterpillar

This story was always popular with my kids not only because of the bright illustrations and simple text but their familiarity of the foods always drew them in. Overall they were good eaters so the recognized the 2 pears and 5 oranges as well as the cupcake and salami.

In a couple of days it will be The Very Hungry Caterpillar Day. This is the 40th anniversary celebration of its publication. Communities, schools, bookstores and libraries all over the world will be celebrating with activities, story times, crafts and parades to honor the beloved story from Eric Carle.

The Alliance for a Healthier Generation and the American Academy of Pediatrics are joining in by helping families learn more about developing healthy eating habits. Get you and your child involved by checking out healthy eating tips, completing activity sheets and tracking progress on a special Caterpillar growth chart.

Watch Eric Carle himself read his classic story; I watched it 3 times. He has a sort of charm, a lovable character within himself that you want to invite over and introduce to your kids. His story is inspiring and his process is magical.

Between his stories like The Very Hungry Caterpillar and his illustrations like Baby Bear Baby Bear What Do You See, anything with Eric Carle’s name on it will be welcome in our home.

Comfy Sacks Beanbag Giveaway

Comfort is key for the kids. They lay on the floor, hang off the arm of the sofa and pile pillows on the floor to get that just right position for tv, books and gaming. Our answer to all the fluffing, adjusting and moving around is a bean bag chair. More specifically, a Comfy Sack lounger bean bag.

sabreena reading on the comfy sack

We’ve had a Comfy Sack bean bag lounger in our living room for a couple months now. It’s THE most used piece of furniture in the house. The kids use it for lounging, jumping, cuddling and exercise (they run around it playing tag). The lounger is really large but fits fine in our living room. What we do need is a couple kid size bean bags for their rooms.

kid sized comfy sack

Comfy Sacks bean bags are very different from others. Instead of hard little beans and pebbles the insides are made from nuggets of furniture quality foam that compresses and expands. A little fluffing and shaking is all it takes to bring the sack back to life. Personally I like it flattened out; it means more room for me to snuggle in and nap. Shae likes when I roll it around and get it back to its 4ft high height; it keeps my little niece from bugging her too much while reading books or playing with toys.

Check out Comfy Sacks for yourself and visit them on Facebook to check out the giveaways they have going on. Shipping is always just $1.

Just for our readers you get a chance to WIN a Kid’s Sack (your color choice) here at LookWhatMomFound…and Dad too! Tell me what else you like on the site and the perfect spot for it.

Hard Time Letting Go On Sunday

This weekend I allowed something to happen that I was nervous about for the entire 2.5 hours they were gone. I let Shaun go with Sabreena to the movies to see Rango on Sunday afternoon.

It wasn’t difficult because I don’t trust Sabreena because I totally do. She is 15 yrs old and goes out with friends alone all of the time after school and on the weekend. Maybe it is because Shaun is 7 yrs old (8 on March 31st) and that is why I was freaking out. Maybe it was because my two kids were out alone and I was freaking out that something might happen to them. Who knows, maybe I was just being way to over protective.

Melinda and I were home watching a DVD and numerous times I mentioned how I hoped the kids were ok and she told me they were fine. In my head I believed her but was still freaked out until I went to pick them up. Only after they were in the van was I able to calm down and able to be at ease.

They said the movie was awesome but I will be honest I am not sure if I will be able to let Shaun go to the movies alone with Sabreena again. I am not sure my heart or mind can handle it. LOL. I guess I am just that dad that finds it hard to let go.

Am I being crazy or do you think I was justified in my thoughts? Be honest here I can handle it. LOL.

Old Navy’s IN STORE Kids & Baby Sale + $25 GC Giveaway

Who doesn’t love sales?  Better yet who doesn’t love sales that involve clothes?  If you are one of those people then you need to be sure to check out Old Navy’s IN STORE Kids & Baby sale where items will start at only $5 from February 4th until February 17th.

I am particularly excited about Old Navy’s upcoming Kids and Baby sale as we have a friend whose baby shower is next month and I expect Melinda to go crazy.  With items starting at $5 we’ll be certain to get a bigger bang for our buck.  I can remember when Shaun and  Shae were babies and going to Old Navy to get super cute clothing and cute pj’s.

I’m going to be honest and tell you I really like Old Navy and Melinda LOVES Old Navy.  We shop at Old Navy so much we now have an Old Navy credit card because we wanted to receive additional coupons plus a ton of other benefits that are only offered to card holders.  We shop at Old Navy for a few reasons like price, selection and quality.  Having three kids means we go clothes shopping often so I want to make sure I get great clothes for a great price that I can be sure are going to hold up to the everyday activities of my children.  Shaun tends to be rough on his clothes and over the years have found that clothes from Old Navy stand up to his abuse.

Another thing I love about Old Navy is there cute kids clothing.  I like to dress Shaun and Shae is cloths that are cute and cool and I find Old Navy has the best selection of clothing like this.  A lot of other stores we shop at don’t offer the selection of cute and cool that we are usually looking for.

Our family has shopped at a lot of different clothing stores over the years but we find our go to store is Old Navy!

Definitely make sure you check out Old Navy’s IN STORE Kids & Baby sale where items will start at only $5 from February 4th until February 17th

Plus, get an extra 25% off with THIS coupon. Quite the deal, right?

Would you like a $25 Old Navy Gift Card of your own? One lucky Look What Mom Found…and Dad too! reader will have a chance to win one. All you need to do is head over to Old Navy and tell me what outfit you would love to purchase with your $25 Gift Card for you child’s next play date.

Our Kids Are As Simple As They Come

The time was 7:45pm. Shae had just gone to bed and Rob and Shaun just came home from cub scouts.  Rob came into the bathroom where I was about to jump into the shower to tell me about what he had just experienced.

Shae was standing on her bed, curtain pulled back, blinds opened looking out the window to see if it was sunny out. She was only in bed about 10 minutes. Rob tells her, “Mom, does not put you to bed when the sun is still out.” “Oh, ok” and she got back in bed.

Shaun was standing in the bathtub, no water running, peeing down the drain.  He got busted, stopped midstream and headed over to the toilet to finish his business.

Welcome to the insanity.

Why Isn’t NO Good Enough?

In our house the word NO for some reason doesn’t mean NO and I am not totally sure why that is.  My kids hear the word No but insist on asking the same question again minutes later thinking the answer is going to be different.

Example: Last night Shaun asked to play Xbox 360 and Melinda told him No because he played Wii for about an hour earlier in the evening.  It couldn’t have been a minute later and he asked the same thing again.  Then maybe five minutes passed before asking again.  At this point I was pissed and I told him if he kept it up he wasn’t going to get dessert.  Melinda and I ran to Wawa for coffee and I needed gas in my car.  When we got back from Wawa can you believe Shaun asked to play Xbox 360 again and this time I flew off the deep end and sent him to bed.

Maybe I was a bit extreme in sending him to bed an hour early but in a 30 minute period he asked to play Xbox 360 four times when he already knew the answer was No.  I hate when we tell the kids No to something and they disregard our answer and ask again.  I feel like it is total disrepect for us as parents.

I don’t tell my kids No for no reason or just to be mean. Believe it or not we usually have a good reason for telling them No.  Also, this post focused on something Shaun did but believe me Shae does the same crap often as well. I am only pointing out Shaun because it just happened and is fresh in my mind.

My hope is some day my kids understand No really means No and not to ask the same thing minutes later.  I am sure I am dreaming but I need something to look forward to don’t I?

80’s Hits With A Kids Twist

I don’t know about you but I like when bands make kids music using 80’s hits like Juice Box Heroes. Shaun loves the words and tune while Melinda and I remember the original hit that inspired the song that Shaun is jamming to.

Juice Box Heroes is WELL received in our home as Shaun listens to it nightly at bed time. You can see my review HERE of there 1st CD No Sugar Added.  They have recently released a new CD called Loose Tooth and I have to admit this is another hit CD in our house.  I love the original 80’s hit that inspired this CD.

This morning Melinda and I had a listen to the CD and immediately Shaun starting singing the first song Loose Tooth which was inspired by Kenny Loggin’s Footloose.  I moved to track two and Shaun then again started singing so I know if Shaun knows these words he has been listening to this CD a lot.  Like I said above the music is inspired by some cool 80’s hits and have been redone into awesome kids songs.

Below is a list of songs on the Loose Tooth CD:

TRACKS INCLUDE:
1. Loose Tooth
– Kenny Loggin’s “Footloose”
2. Lemonade – Bruce Springsteen’s “Glory Days”
3. Fire Station – Kool & The Gang’s “Celebration”
4. Freeze Tag – J. Geils Band’s “Freeze Frame”
5. Sound Like an Elephant – The Bangles’ “Walk Like An Egyptian”
6. Room’s A Mess – General Public’s “Tenderness”
7. I Wish I Could Tie My Shoes – Rick Springfield’s “I’ve Done Everything For You”
8. Merry Go ‘Round – Dead or Alive’s “You Spin Me ‘Round (Like a Record)”
9. Just Love Tonka Trucks – Depeche Mode’s “Just Can’t Get Enough”
10. Wearin’ Underwear – Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ On A Prayer”
11. Raspberry Sorbet – Prince’s “Raspberry Beret”
12. Don’t Stop Reading – Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin'”
13. Celebrate The Juice Box (Bonus Track) – Pat Benatar’s “Hit Me With Your Best Shot”

If you are looking for some pretty cool kids music that your kids will love and you will enjoy as well they you need to pick up both of Juice Box Heroes CD’s : No Sugar Added and Loose Tooth.
