80’s Hits With A Kids Twist

I don’t know about you but I like when bands make kids music using 80’s hits like Juice Box Heroes. Shaun loves the words and tune while Melinda and I remember the original hit that inspired the song that Shaun is jamming to.

Juice Box Heroes is WELL received in our home as Shaun listens to it nightly at bed time. You can see my review HERE of there 1st CD No Sugar Added.  They have recently released a new CD called Loose Tooth and I have to admit this is another hit CD in our house.  I love the original 80’s hit that inspired this CD.

This morning Melinda and I had a listen to the CD and immediately Shaun starting singing the first song Loose Tooth which was inspired by Kenny Loggin’s Footloose.  I moved to track two and Shaun then again started singing so I know if Shaun knows these words he has been listening to this CD a lot.  Like I said above the music is inspired by some cool 80’s hits and have been redone into awesome kids songs.

Below is a list of songs on the Loose Tooth CD:

TRACKS INCLUDE:
1. Loose Tooth
– Kenny Loggin’s “Footloose”
2. Lemonade – Bruce Springsteen’s “Glory Days”
3. Fire Station – Kool & The Gang’s “Celebration”
4. Freeze Tag – J. Geils Band’s “Freeze Frame”
5. Sound Like an Elephant – The Bangles’ “Walk Like An Egyptian”
6. Room’s A Mess – General Public’s “Tenderness”
7. I Wish I Could Tie My Shoes – Rick Springfield’s “I’ve Done Everything For You”
8. Merry Go ‘Round – Dead or Alive’s “You Spin Me ‘Round (Like a Record)”
9. Just Love Tonka Trucks – Depeche Mode’s “Just Can’t Get Enough”
10. Wearin’ Underwear – Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ On A Prayer”
11. Raspberry Sorbet – Prince’s “Raspberry Beret”
12. Don’t Stop Reading – Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin'”
13. Celebrate The Juice Box (Bonus Track) – Pat Benatar’s “Hit Me With Your Best Shot”

If you are looking for some pretty cool kids music that your kids will love and you will enjoy as well they you need to pick up both of Juice Box Heroes CD’s : No Sugar Added and Loose Tooth.

Learn To Play Guitar With Power Gig : Rise of the SixString

To me playing the guitar would be so freaking awesome and the closest I am able to come is by playing Power Gig : Rise of the SixString.

Power Gig: Rise of the SixString  is the first game to feature a real electric guitar controller and teaches the fundamental skills of guitar playing in the process.  All of its controllers are compatible with Rock Band & Guitar Hero games and peripherals . Go to powergig.com/compatibility for more information.

Right out of the box you get that real guitar feel which is pretty cool in my opinion.  The one thing I really like about this game is the song selection.  I really like that the games features three exclusive artists : Eric Clapton, Dave Matthews Band and Kid Rock.  One of my favorite bands on this game is Disturbed.  LOL, if it wasn’t for this game when else would I have the opportunity to play a Disturbed song.

In a marketplace of violent video games, rest assured that Power Gig’s world of Ohm is a peaceful zone. The ESRB gave the game a T (Teen) rating, listing mild lyrics and mild suggestive themes.  You can buy everything you need in one box! The band kit comes with the game and the SixString guitar controller so you can start playing right away.

Power Gig is available at major retailers like Walmart, Target, Best Buy, GameStop, ToysRUs, BJ’s, QVC, and Amazon.  If you have a gamer on your list who is interested in the guitar be sure to pick this game up.

Olive Barn for Garden Shopping and Wind Chime Giveaway-CLOSED

Music soothes the savage beast. It can at least bring some peace and calm to a stressful or hectic day. This is what my Music of the Spheres Soprano Chimes do for me. Sitting on my deck with the wind blowing, sun shining, drink in hand and the soothing musical sounds are a great way to wind down at the end of the week.

“These are professional grade, hand tuned wind chimes that are built to last. The sleek design of black, powder-coated, aluminum alloy tubing make these chimes outstanding in both sound quality and visual appeal. They are the only brand we carry at Olive Barn because no other brand meets the industry standards for tonal quality, sustain and durability. Best of all, these are made right here in the USA. Handcrafted in Austin, Texas by the talented artisans at Music of the Spheres®, Inc.”

I was given the opportunity another great item from Olive Barn. With a shop full of unique and eco-conscious garden goodies I was ecstatic when I opened up my Gypsy tuned wind chimes. We had the perfect spot near the sliding glass doors so that they can be heard inside also. Being on the end unit and having a field behind us gives us these great winds throughout the day. We are constantly being serenaded by the dingdong sounds.

A few weeks back Shaun and I were admiring wind chimes at a local shop and we realized we didn’t like the “tinkling” sounds that come from the smaller, lesser quality instruments. He picked out a wind chime very similar to the one received from Olive Barn. We ended up not purchasing it due to other purchases made that day. He’s very excited about having one now; he knows it makes his mommy happy.

Whether it’s a beautiful set of wind chimes or striking sun-catchers or seeds and bulbs for the garden Olive Barn has a mix of practical and indulgent gifts for yourself and others. Being a “green” business is also very important. Using only eco-friendly shipping materials whenever possible helps them make a positive impact on the world we all live in. They like this planet and they want to keep it around for as long as possible.

Shopping is fun and exciting at Olive Barn but winning is even better. Win Music of the Spheres Soprano Wind Chimes for yourself. Listen to the available tunings and tell me which you prefer.

She’s a Dancin’ Machine!

Literally a machine!!! Rob and I watched Michael Jackson’s This Is It last weekend and it was full of really great music, all classic MJ hits. Shae would come in the room every once in a while, listen and watch, bob her head around then leave.

My absolute favorite MJ song is Smooth Criminal and when that came on she started dancing her little heiny off. The video is long, over 3 minutes, mostly she’s running around from room to room with some spins and falls thrown in but it’s a great mix of dancing, foolishness and hamming it up.   By the way, dancing for her is new, she would do the hip-hop head nod and spin but the booty shaking and riverdance legs is new to our world.

Juice Box Heroes – No Sugar Added CD Recap

The 80’s were a time when music was simple and easy and the artists are still remembered to this day. Just in case you forgot or are trying to block out the 80’s here are a few artists I remember vividly: George Michael, Rick Springfield, Twisted Sister and Cyndi Lauper. There is an awesome band called Juice Box Heroes that plays these 80’s artists with a kids twist.

Juice Box Heroes brothers Craig and Scott Coane both played in 80’s bands in college and after college they started their own 80’s band. After becoming dads Craig and Scott realized playing in bars until 2 a.m. and then having to wake up for that 5 a.m. bottle feeding wasn’t going to work and they realized something needed to change. Enter Juice Box Heroes.

Heralded as “song favorites for parents, fun new lyrics for kids”, Juice Box Heroes takes the very best songs from the past and parodies them for young kids. Their debut album “No Sugar Added” is now available at juiceboxeheroes.com.

When we received this CD for analyse Shaun and I were pretty excited because we love music and Shaun loves to listen to music every night at bedtime. What caught my eye was the catchy titles to old 80’s classics like “Puppy’s Fur” which is a parody of Rick Springfield’s Jessie’s Girl. No Sugar Added is filled with awesome songs that you and your kids will love listening to.

This CD is so good Shaun has listened to it every night at bed time since we received it and he is a pain when it comes to music so that is how I know it is good. Every night when I put Shaun to bed I ask him what CD he wants to listen to and he tells me “Dad, the same one I listen to every night, Juice Box Heroes”. This is my story and I’m stickin to it.

Want a Juice Box Heroes CD of your own for you and your kids to enjoy?  Two lucky Look What Mom Found…and Dad too! readers will get this terrific CD.  Go to Juice Box Heroes and sign up to be a member of the fan club.  This is the mandatory entry.

Musicolor Recapitulation

I never really thought music and art were two things that you would put together until the Musicolor.  The Musicolor lets kids explore their artistic side then allows them to enjoy the music that they created.

The Musicolor comes with pre-printed coloring discs that you simply color in the spaces according to the letter printed in the area, when you are done, the disc will play the song for the scene you have just colored! For kids who want to be really creative, use the blank song discs and create your own masterpiece from scratch.

What I really think is cool about the Musicolor is that it resembles a classisc record player.

The Musicolor music player consists of a rotating base and an arm for reading the music discs, much the same as a DVD player reads a DVD. The arm scans over the colored areas of the music disc rotating on the music player, reads the color and translates it to sound. The player also has three sounds: piano, violin and trumpet.”

When Shae first opened the Musicolor she saw the music note markers and immediately wanted to start coloring. Little did Shae know that the song disc she was coloring was going to be turned into music on the Musicolor music player. Shae really loves music and she also loves to color and the Musicolor has found a way for her to enjoy both at the same time.

In my opinion what makes the Musicolor so great is it is perfect for a wide age range. If you have an older child they most likely would enjoy the the blank ‘Create-a-song’ music discs while younger kids would like the pre-printed song discs that are color-by-number.

The Musicolor is currently available online at target.com, amazon.com and deltacreative.com, Musicolor sells for $49.99 with a variety of accessories for years of creative fun.

Musicolor • Ages: 4+ • $49.99
Musicolor is the first of its kind to combine coloring and music in one toy! Musicolor includes 1 music player, 14 pre-printed song discs, 8 music note markers, 5 create-a-song discs, and 1 pre-colored song disc. Just color the song disc, place the disc on your music player and listen to your creation. Simply color, play, and listen!

Create A Song Discs • $5.99
A full set of 20 Create-a-Song discs to use in addition to the discs included with Musicolor for endless fun.

Music Note Markers • $5.99
A full set of 8 Music Note Markers to use in addition to the markers included with Musicolor or as replacements whenever the creative mood strikes you.

If your child enjoys art and music be sure to check out the Musicolor but don’t forget to buy extra accessories becuase your kids are going to play with this for hours.

Do you have a music loving artist in your house? If so you are in luck because Delta Creative is offering one lucky Look What Mom Found…and Dad too! reader a chance to win a Musicolor of their own.  Head over to Delta Creative and tell what other product you think is cool and would love to try.

Michael Bublé is one of my favorite musical artists. I own all of his albums and listen to them regularly, even the Christmas one. His sexy voice draws me in and his music takes me back to different time and he isn’t too hard on the eyes either. Michael Bublé’s musical style is what I would call Jazz Pop with tributes to the crooners of yesteryear; Frank Sinatra, Sarah Vaughn, Ray Charles, Ella Fitzgerald, Dean Martin.

Crazy Love is his newest album and debuted at #1 on the US Billboard Charts and has already received double platinum status by the Canadian Recording Industry Association. Did I mention it was just released on October 9th?

I’ve been listening to Crazy Love a lot the past few days. To be honest it didn’t seem to have the same soul and passion I’m used to hearing. I felt like there were too many ballads, I really love the upbeat jazzy tunes I’m used to hearing from him, the kind of music that makes you snap your fingers. I’ve been giving it a chance and have changed my mind on a lot of my first impressions. My favorite track by far is Haven’t Met You Yet and love that there is a video that goes along with it, all the more chances to lay some eyes on him.

Dad’s Perspective: I don’t like to admit it but his music is alright. I’ve watched his Madison Square Garden DVD and he’s a great performer and pretty damn funny.

Like I said Crazy love was released on October 9th and is available for purchase at Michael Bublé’s Merchandise Shop for $13.99. But you can win your own CD and Michael Bublé Tote bag right here at LookWhatMomFound…and Dad too! Tell me what you enjoy about Michael Bublé’s music or what your favorite song is.

Mama Doni-Funky Music with a Jewish Twist

Chanukah lasts only eight days, and Doni Zasloff Thomas, aka MAMA DONI, says, “Enjoy!” The popular singer/songwriter expands the horizons of traditional Jewish music, with a contagious and unexpected blend of reggae, rock, disco, Latin, klezmer and “Jewgrass” – all woven together with a hip Jewish sensibility. In Chanukah Fever, MAMA DONI spices these eclectic, colorful elements with a razor-sharp, sophisticated humor that makes latkes, dreidels and Yiddish expressions cooler than ever.

I’m not Jewish so when I was sent a sneak peek CD of Chanukah Fever I wasn’t sure if it was something I would enjoy let alone understand the humor. I do have a Jewish friend though so I gave it to her. She came back that day and said it was great; it had her laughing all the way to work. The different styles of music made it entertaining with songs like The Funky Gold Menorah.

THE MAMA DONI BAND came away with one of the top prizes at the 2008 International Jewish Music Festival, held in Amsterdam, competing against more than 100 ensembles from 15 countries. At the Festival’s invitation, they will return to Amsterdam to perform and lead workshops in October 2009. I Love Chanukah! was named one of the Top 10 Chanukah Music for Kids albums of 2008 by About.com. Recognized in The New York Times, New York Post, The Star-Ledger, The Record, Time Out New York Kids, New Jersey Jewish News, The Jewish Week, and Jewish Woman International Magazine, THE MAMA DONI BAND is delighting families throughout the country.

Dan Zanes THE FINE FRIENDS ARE HERE!

Kids music can be really irritating sometimes with its puppet voices, lack of imagination in lyrics or absence of real music. Dan Zanes and Friends’ is a rare gem in the world of children’s music. This group of real musicians, artists, singers and entertainers has put together a new music video DVD, THE FINE FRIENDS ARE HERE! of old favorites plus a release of some new tunes. This DVD/CD combo was released September 22nd.

The Fine Friends Are Here! is Zanes and Friends’ first DVD in over four years. The DVD showcases what the band’s trademark rollicking concerts are all about and allows kids and fans alike to participate in the wildly popular and regularly sold out experience. This concert performance of the band’s favorite songs was shot on location at The Jalopy Theatre in Red Hook, Brooklyn this past winter and features well-known songs from across the Zanes and Friends catalog including “Let’s Shake,” “Wabash Cannonball,” “El Canario” and “Catch That Train!,” among others. Two special guests join the band at the show: spoken word artist Caridad de la Luz a.k.a. La Bruja raps on “The Welcome Table” and is featured in the video for “Pollito Chicken” while break dancer David Alan a.k.a. Cyclone appears on “Jump Up” and “Walking the Dog.” The DVD also contains three new music videos for the songs “Wonder Wheel,” “Pollito Chicken” and “Night Owl.”

You might recognize Zanes from popular kids shows like Sesame Street, Playhouse Disney and Noggin but Zanes’ and Friends fame reaches much farther. They have achieved acclaim in London, Australia, Spain and Bahrain. The fame started simply, handing out cassettes (what are those LOL) in a neighborhood park in New York City. It was all about introducing people to this “new sound”, but the sound wasn’t exactly new just different from what parents were used to. Using the world as inspiration Zanes’ and Friends blend the cultures they love with the talent they possess to create a mix that is not only a relief to listen to but ultra-fun to watch, have you seen Zanes’ suits and hair!

Catch a show and see for yourself how entertaining, imaginative and original children’t music can be.

Milkshake music Recapitulation

I got a big bottle of Sunshine
Mixed up with a bowl of daydreams
Poured into a suitcase filled with laughter that I found
You won’t find me sitting around

These are just some of the whimsical lyrics you’ll find in Milkshake’s catalog. Milkshake is a Baltimore, MD based kids rock band that have been seen on Noggin, PBS Kids and Discovery Kids as well as concerts around the US. Using music as a peek into the child’s imagination is one way I describe their style. Most of their songs are written from a child’s point of view but there are always exceptions to the rule. You Did It is a song of motivation being sung from a parent to their child. Whatever task is in front of them we as parents know they can accomplish it with a little push and pull.

Milkshake was formed in 2002 as a way for then new parents Lisa Mathews and Mikel Gehl to stay in touch with the music that was going to influence their children’s lives. With a background in indie rock they used their enthusiasm and originality to gain a strong following over the next few years with fellow bandmates Tom Moon, Cord Neal, Brian Simms and Michael Sheppard. Great Day is Milkshake’s 4th studio album and was just released in August along. This album like all the others (we have them all) is a celebration of all things KID. With songs about family, feelings, friends and FUN it touches on the topics that are important for kids.
Milkshake wants to give LookWhatMomFound…and Dad too! readers the chance to win a special giveaway, the Great Day CD PLUS a Milkshake Tutu just like Lisa wears or a Milkshake Moo t-shirt OR Milkshake’s complete studio album catalog, that’s 4 CDs. Give Milkshake music a chance and tell me a song you really like from their website or Facebook page. Also tell me which prize you would like to win.
