KidsCraft Playhouses Review and Giveaway-CLOSED

Kids love to play in boxes but who has boxes big enough just laying around the house. It is nice if you are in the market for a new refrigerator or washer and dryer because the kids then hit the jackpot. If you aren’t in the market for new appliances Kidscraft Playhouses are the answer with their Creation Cottage and Shuttle Imagination.

Two dads and a grandfather from Atlanta got a first hand look at how the cardboard box captures a child’s way of thinking. While packing up their financial services business, moving from one office to another, their kids tagged along. Although the fathers brought along playthings like coloring books and crayons for the 3 to 7 year olds, it was the empty boxes that captivated the youngsters. The dads saw the sparks of a business and KidsCraft Playhouses was born.

Made of 100% recycled material and made in the USA, two sturdy designs are available online and at select specialty retailers. The Shuttle Imagination, a large spaceship and the Creation Cottage, a playhouse, are ingeniously designed so there’s no need for cutting, taping or measuring. The flaps and slots are specifically designed and pre-cut for easy assembly and can withstand hours of play.

The outside of these cardboard houses are blank so that kids can use their imagination and color them how they see fit. KidsCraft will mail a free 8-pack of crayons to kids when they redeem their sales receipt online at www.kidscraftusa.com. These aren’t your ordinary crayons – they’re 100 % recycled from unwanted crayons.

When we got our Creation Cottage for review Shaun and Shae were so excited they must have asked a million times when we were going to set it up. Set up was a breeze and took no longer then thirty minutes from box to full blow house with a door, windows and a chimney. Shaun and Shae love to take blankets, pillows and stuffed animals and just sit inside of the cottage and play. The one thing to beware of is its size as it is pretty large (42”L x 39”W x 54”H) and will take up a good amount of space. Otherwise no complaints at all. Sabreena customized our cottage with an awesome paint job and it looks like a real cottage.
Here are some further details on the two houses offered:
The Creation Cottage • $59.95
Indoors or out, this pint size cottage is a perfect playroom for solo play or for the neighborhood gang. Made from 100% recycled materials, the unique design allows for a sturdy drawing surface for tykes. The white exterior is a blank canvas designed to inspire the imagination and creation from little Picassos. Five windows and a door make for fun peek-a-boo play. The Creation Cottage comes with a promotional offer for free recycled crayons that are made in the U.S. The Creation Cottage measures 42”L x 39”W x 54”H.

Shuttle Imagination • $69.95
For out-of-this-world imagination, the space shuttle can take kids on a new adventure every day! Made of 100% recycled materials, the unique design allows for a sturdy drawing surface. Double bay doors and two portholes add a dimension of fun. Color the shuttle’s surface to show where you will travel or what discoveries you’ve already made! The Shuttle Imagination comes with a promotional offer for free recycled crayons that are made in the U.S. The Shuttle Imagination measures 39”L x 34”W x 72”H. Fin attachments are 12” long.

Seventh Generation Cleaning Kit Review and Giveaway-CLOSED

Green cleaning starts with non-toxic products without losing their ability to kill germs and remove dirt and grime. Seventh Generation is a leader in the manufacturing of eco-conscious and sustainable home and family care products. I knew about their baby care items when Shae was a baby but we cloth diapered her so I didn’t need chlorine free/dye free diapers. Now they have a complete cleaning selection that covers the kitchen, bath and laundry.
I’ve been reviewing some of these products over the last couple weeks and have liked the results so far. The one thing I don’t like is the after smell of the Lemongrass and Thyme Disinfecting cleaners and wipes. It starts off just fine with a natural woodsy scent but the lingering smell is too strong and almost chemical like. If they could do a more citrus smell I’d be all over it.
Regardless of my dislike of the smell Seventh Generation disinfecting cleaners they do kill over 99.99% of household germs, specifically: Influenza A, H1N1, Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella enterica, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli on hard, nonporous surfaces. With kids in the house and their sometimes lack of hygiene and manners this is a HUGE bonus.
Seventh Generation operates with a very clear focus.
The Change We Want to See

  • Restore the environment
  • Inspire conscious consumption
  • Create a just and equitable world

The Different Way We Operate

  • Systems thinking
  • Radical transparency
  • Influence beyond our size

These things make Seventh Generation different than other household cleaning products. From the very beginning, Seventh Generation has pushed to have a real impact on competitors, suppliers, communities, and government. Products may be the vehicle, but far-reaching, genuine change is the mission.
Seventh Generation is offering LookWhatMomFound…and Dad too! readers the chance to win a complete cleaning kit to celebrate Earth Day. The kit includes:

  • Disinfecting Multi-Surface Cleaner
  • Disinfecting Bathroom Cleaner
  • Disinfecting Wipes
  • Two rolls of 100% recycled brown unbleached paper towels
  • The Conscious Kitchen a book Alexandra Zissu
  • A handy Cleaning Caddy made from recycled plastic

To enter visit Seventh Generation and tell me something you have learned about the company.

Ultimate Green Idea for Earth Week-Mobile Farmer’s Market

I’d love to go greener than we already do but I’d also love to impact my environment in a positive way. I’m sitting here flipping through all the Earth Day specials and I stumble on an interviewer asking people on the street “What would like to do to make a green change in your community or the environment”. Some of the answers were standard, offer more recycling, ride my bike to work, shop locally. This got me thinking about what I would love to do that was different. It didn’t take long to come up with several ideas but one really sticks out in my head; a Mobile Farmers Market.

Each morning local farms and dairies come together at a central meeting place with their freshest fruits, veggies, cheeses, meats and baked goods. A large pick-up/flatbed/utility truck is then loaded up with all the goods and it heads out to a specific location of the day. These locations must be in areas where farmers markets aren’t available and where they are needed the most. Low Income urban area’s come to mind first but that doesn’t leave out the suburbs. Stay at home soccer moms as well as the city dwellers all need healthy options for snacks and mealtime. I also think retirement/assisted living communities, military bases and college campuses would be great stops for the Fresh Food truck.

So I’d love to implement this idea but have no clue how to get started. I don’t own a truck, I only know of 3 or 4 local farms and I’m sure you need some kind of business license.

I ask you the same question, “What would like to do to make a green or clean change in your community or the environment?”

[me] and goji Custom Cereal Review and Giveaway-CLOSED

Breakfast is supposed to be the fuel to start your day. But today’s top breakfast cereal brands fail at providing quality nutrition, proper vitamins and minerals and adequate fiber and ingredients especially for those with special dietary needs and restrictions. A group of young men; Adam, Carl and Alexander dreamed up the solution; [me] & goji.
[me] & goji is simply a custom cereal & granola company. I say simply because when you start looking through the ingredients it really is a simple and healthy and unique idea that should’ve been obvious to cereal makers all along. With over 60 all-natural and organic ingredients to choose from the mixes are endless. If you aren’t too creative or aren’t too sure what flavors will match well you can select from one of their own favorite blends.

The process is easy though to choose your own mix. Start with your base (flakes, hoops, granola, etc) add your dried fruits and nuts and then the best part, customize your box. I was able to get 3 customized containers of cereal for the kids. For Shaun’s and Shae’s I added super cute pictures of them and fun titles. My kids reach for [me] & goji as an afternoon snack and yogurt mix-in.

What I really appreciate about [me] & goji is it offers so many options. Whether you’re a health nut or wanna be you can mix a nutritious and tasty meal while feeling good about putting good stuff into your body. [me] & goji offers options for those who suffer from Celiac Disease, IBS and other digestive and diet needs. You don’t need to have a medical reason to enjoy a quality, healthy, green cereal.

Visit [me] & goji to learn about the efforts they are putting forth to create a healthier workplace, a sustainable business and a greener environment. Win your own customize cereal from [me] & goji by telling me what ingredients you would choose.

Eden Home Organic, review and in-home spa treatment giveaway-CLOSED

Where do you turn to shop for natural and eco-friendly bedding, clothing, baby products and everything else for your home?

Eden Home is the one place to find a complete selection of organic, all-natural and eco-friendly products for your home and life that won’t have you compromising your sense of style. Many of the so-called “organic” and “natural” products sold today are either not pure or not beautiful. So Eden Home was started to offer healthy choices ranging from organic clothes for baby to natural bath towels, from organic cookware to all natural shampoos.

When I was approached by Eden Home I was 1st pleased by the lovely design and easy to navigate site. Next I was amazed at the large selection of everything under the sun. I really enjoyed the variety of kids and baby gear: from organic clothes to natural toys to natural skincare to BPA-free feeding tools. Bedding and Clothing is where I made my first stops. Bamboo sheets are my new favorite indulgence in the bedroom but bamboo clothing is my new favorite personal indulgence. There is something special about the feel of organic bamboo and cotton, the result is silkiness against the skin with no pilling, snags or misshaping.

I was able to review a pair of comfy Blue Canoe easy style pants. Easy is a perfect word for these stretchy wide-legged lounge pants. I got the Cognac color thinking it would be brown, I was wrong it had a warm cocoa/rust color, different from what I was expecting but still a pretty.
I would love to try out the unique cooking tools available. The La Chamba Clay Pot collection is truly one-of-a-kind. Made in Colombia not very differently than previous centuries these clay pots are hand formed and free of glazes and lead.

Look around Eden Home for yourself and tell me what green changes you want to make for your home for your chance to win a Bath/Spa Treatment gift basket for a natural destress in your own home.

Make Going Green count with GREENGUARD

Most of us are making attempts to “go green” in our everyday lives. Whether it’s buying organic groceries, driving a hybrid car or recycling water bottles we should be proud of the steps we take. But how do you know those steps are the right ones? Did you know that indoor air could be 2-5 times more polluted than the air outside? Children are especially at risk, particularly those with asthma, allergies and respiratory diseases.

The GREENGUARD Environmental Institute (GEI), offers a solution to parents concerned about indoor air quality. Indoor furnishings, finishes and cleaning products emit thousands of different pollutants into the air. By using products that are certified by GREENGUARD, parents can rest easy knowing the products have met stringent chemical emissions standards backed by the most stringent third-party certification program in the industry.

The GREENGUARD Environmental Institute (GEI) is an industry-independent, non-profit organization that oversees the GREENGUARD Certification ProgramSM.  GEI establishes acceptable indoor air standards for indoor products, environments, and buildings. GEI’s mission is to improve public health and quality of life through programs that improve indoor air. A GEI Advisory Board consisting of independent volunteers, who are renowned experts in the areas of indoor air quality, public and environmental health, building design and construction, and public policy, provides guidance and leadership to GEI.

Next time you need to buy furnishings, flooring or even new nursery bedding search the GEI Product Guide database for the safest selection of low-emmiting products and materials. Choose from some well-known manufacturers such as; Georgia-Pacific Gypsum, LLC, Owens Corning and Hunter Douglas, Dupont Surfaces.
GREENGUARD. . . Nurturing the indoor air you breathe.

Revenge Is… Recycled Clothing Review and Giveaway – CLOSED

And the Winner is:

i signed up for their newsletter…i like their peace tee

November 4, 2009 10:31 PM

Revenge Is… wearing clothing made from not only organic materials but recycled plastic bottles (RPET). Yes I said plastic bottles! To make the RPET, recycled plastic bottles are melted down and then processed into a fine yarn which, in turn, becomes a soft and silky t-shirt. This process allows the tees to be washed and dried over and over and over without shrinking or fading. You get the luxury of wearing a comfy fashionable tee without the hazards of owning cotton.
Revenge is… more than an apparel and accessories company. Their mission is to bring awareness to the environmental and issues that we face daily by introducing products that help make a difference.

Global warming, energy dependence, war, economic turmoil, foreclosures and unemployment – these are some of the major crisis facing our world today. Developing alternative sources, practicing “reduce, reuse and recycle” in our everyday lives, and demanding more effective diplomatic and economic policies of our government and business institutions will help. The old saying goes “the best revenge is living well.” Our belief is that, by taking action today, we can all live well tomorrow.
Our individual actions may not change the world, but our collective actions will. Our message products make the statement that you care and you are part of the solution. Our newsletter will inform you about critical issues we face today. Our blog gives you the opportunity to voice your concerns and solutions about the many challenges we face today.

Sabreena received 2 tees from Revenge Is… The Peace tee send a message that we all want to live in a community that is safe and healthy for not just us but our children yet we are daily bombarded with issues of crime, violence and terrorism. Our Best Revenge against these issues is Peace! The Earth Day tee reminds us that we can collectively change the fate of our world with our positive and sustainable choices. All tees from Revenge Is… are made in the USA and are made using a mix of organic cotton, eco friendly printing inks of course recycled water bottles.  I do wish the tees were cut a little bigger.  The mediums are ok for Sabreena, a bit snug but she likes them that way. they just introduced some more colors, the purple has a  great heathered/faded look.
Become a part of the change; take part in your area’s pressing issues. Visit Revenge Is… blog to learn more about what is going in our government, world issues and our economy as well as pressing environmental issues. Volunteerism is one that that almost everyone can do for almost every cause out there. Help is always needed!

Dad’s Perspective: The idea of recycling water bottles into tshirts if a pretty cool idea.  Sabreena is all about going green and doing more for her community so this review is right up her alley!

Win fun and sustainable products from Revenge Is… right here at LookWhatMomFound…and Dad too! You’ll get to pick a tee of your choice plus snatch up a reusable tote, both made from recycled plastic water bottles. Most people have heard of bamboo fibers for use in clothing, bedding and bath textiles. Bamboo is a not only a renewable resource it is naturally smooth, soft and non-irritating. This makes bamboo a desirable material for those with sensitive skin. This doesn’t mean bamboo isn’t perfect for everyone though. Its round fibers make it possible for the fabric to lie softly next to the skin instead of rubbing against it like other synthetic fibers. Its breathability and insulating properties also make bamboo the perfect year round material for garments.

The selection at DreamSacks® is vast; clothing for men, women, kids and babies plus lush bath towels, silky sheets and fun accessories. Win a Sophie Short Wrap right here at LookWhatMomFound…and Dad too! Visit DreamSacks® and tell us another item you would love to try out.

Dad’s Perspective: I liked the look and feel of the jacket, it gave a simple outfit a little pizzazz while still looking comfortable.

Blue Q Gifts review and giveaway – CLOSED!!!

Don’t you love when you stumble on a new site with fun products? When I found Blue Q I fell in love with their bags. These aren’t just regular bags, they are made from recycled plastic bottles and grain sacks that has been spun into cool and kitschy designs that are super strong and durable. Even better, 1% of the sales from any of their bags go to programs such as the Nature Conservancy. Blue Q has committed to a minimum contribution of $50,000 by April 2011.

This past weekend I used the Overnighter to pack mine, Rob’s, Shaun’s and Shae’s clothes for a weekend at my parents. Everything FIT! To get an idea of the real size of the overnighter Shae is pictured above sitting in it having her snack. There was no hesitation that the bag was going to be able to support the weight either. With long woven straps it can be slung over your shoulder for easy carrying and its material allows for easy clean-up against spills and dirty shoes. The shopper tote (pictured to the right of the Shae in the overnighter)has come in so handy on several occasions. At the grocery store I handles about 2 times more than a regular plastic bag and I was able to tote all the decoration and last minute items for my sister’s baby shower; paper cutter, pens, markers, tape, hole punch, scissors, folders with shower games, box for raffle, tablecloths, napkins, favors, cosmetic bag, extra shoes, decorations and more odds and ends. It stood up straight the whole time allowing me to reach in and grab whatever I needed with fewer struggles like with floppy reusable bags.

Blue Q is about more than these cool recycled bags. They’ve got a fun mix of catchy home décor, luxurious bath products and cheesy notions to even make stuffed shirts snort with laughter. Keeping with the green message Blue Q has recently introduced stainless steel water bottles. This 20oz. bottles are decorated with original designs using lead-free inks and DO NOT have a resin or plastic lining, keeping your water chemical free. Here is the adorable water bottle I’ve been using daily around the house, isn’t he adorable, love the gapped toothed grin.
Want your own “green goodies” from Blue Q? Win a shoppers tote and water bottle for yourself right here at LookWhatMomFound…and Dad too! Visit Blue Q and tell me another cool, funny or odd product you found that you would love to have or give to a friend (or enemy).
