Olivia the Pig Toys for Girls

Olivia is a 6 ½ year old pig who thinks she can do anything. Isn’t this the message we should be sending to all little girls today.

Author Ian Falconer (Olivia has a brother named Ian) is the mind behind this unique, contemporary and opinionated character. Olivia is a best-selling children’s book series and hit Nick Jr. television show. She inspires girls to go for what they want and follow their dreams no matter who says they can’t. This holiday season Spin Master is introducing a collection of toys for kids ages 4 and up. Shae is only 3 but she loves Olivia; we watch her show and have a couple of her books already.

Celebrate Christmas with The Nutcracker and The Christmas Magic

I’ve mentioned before how much we love books. The children each have huge libraries of their own. Books are used as a quiet time trigger, a thought provoker, a tear jerker and a giggle starter. My favorite stories are those that get read over and over and over. Scholastic is a top distributor of books for children of all ages. This year they are bringing us 2 stories to cherish for a lifetime.


The Christmas Magic written by Lauren Thomas is Shae’s first intro to Santa. Now that she’s coming on to her 3rd Christmas the questions come feverishly as to who is santa, is he bringing a present, what color is the tree and is it Christmas yet. This book tells a soft less hectic story of Santa getting ready for his big night. He feeds his reindeer, tunes up the sleigh, brightens the bells and lovingly chooses a gift for each child. The illustrations by Jon J. Muth have a snowy feel, almost blurry but really matching with a calm and peaceful story. I’ve always taught my children that while yes Santa brings presents it isn’t about the quantity. It’s about getting that 1 special gift he knows they would love. The Christmas Magic helps reinforce the giving nature of Christmas rather than the greedy side.

Who doesn’t know the story of The Nutcracker and the Mouse King? Originally written in 1816 by E.T.A. Hoffmann, it’s a story of a young girl who family is given a nutcracker as a gift. Upon it getting damaged she takes charge to care for it. During the night she falls in love with the nutcracker and is then whisked away into an enchanted land of toys where they are trying to defeat the Mouse King. This edition is closely based on the original with captivating illustrations from Gail de Marken. Forever a classic, The Nutcracker and the Mouse King is a story every child should have.

Mama Doni-Funky Music with a Jewish Twist

The different styles of music made it entertaining with songs like The Funky Gold Menorah.
