Olivia the Pig Toys for Girls

Olivia is a 6 ½ year old pig who thinks she can do anything. Isn’t this the message we should be sending to all little girls today.

Author Ian Falconer (Olivia has a brother named Ian) is the mind behind this unique, contemporary and opinionated character. Olivia is a best-selling children’s book series and hit Nick Jr. television show. She inspires girls to go for what they want and follow their dreams no matter who says they can’t. This holiday season Spin Master is introducing a collection of toys for kids ages 4 and up. Shae is only 3 but she loves Olivia; we watch her show and have a couple of her books already.

Olivia 2-in-1 Transforming Playset- Olivia’s house magically transforms into a Pirate Ship, complete with 23 accessories, sticker sheet and Olivia figurine.

Olivia Plush-soft enough for cuddling but always ready to perform in her standard outfit. 4 additional¬ plush dolls are available in different outfits.

I’m holding onto these toys till the holiday but know already Shae is going to be excited by the colorful toys. Not like she needs another stuffed animal in her bed but I’m positive Olivia is going to get a prime space among the other friends.
Visit your local Toys “R” Us, Target or Kmart to pick up your own Olivia toys for the holidays.

Top Ten Holiday Movies

These are the movies that our family watches every holiday season. Sometimes they get watched multiple times throughout the years, check out choices 1 and 2 !

Elf-I’m a cotton-headed ninny-muggins

The Nightmare Before Christmas-everyday needs a little spook

Dr Suess’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas– Jim Carey is just awesome!
A Christmas Story-you’ll shoot your eye out
National Lampoons Christmas Vacation-the best of the entire series
The Santa Clause-Tim Allen was funny back in the day

A Charlie Brown Christmas-it’s a classic

Frosty the Snowman– HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Dr Suess’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas-can’t go wrong with the classic cartoon

The Muppet Christmas Carol-anything Muppets is awesome

What you’re your faves? Personally I don’t like the real classics, the old Black and Whites. I’m just not into that style of movie.

Celebrate Christmas with The Nutcracker and The Christmas Magic

I’ve mentioned before how much we love books. The children each have huge libraries of their own. Books are used as a quiet time trigger, a thought provoker, a tear jerker and a giggle starter. My favorite stories are those that get read over and over and over. Scholastic is a top distributor of books for children of all ages. This year they are bringing us 2 stories to cherish for a lifetime.

The Christmas Magic written by Lauren Thomas is Shae’s first intro to Santa. Now that she’s coming on to her 3rd Christmas the questions come feverishly as to who is santa, is he bringing a present, what color is the tree and is it Christmas yet. This book tells a soft less hectic story of Santa getting ready for his big night. He feeds his reindeer, tunes up the sleigh, brightens the bells and lovingly chooses a gift for each child. The illustrations by Jon J. Muth have a snowy feel, almost blurry but really matching with a calm and peaceful story. I’ve always taught my children that while yes Santa brings presents it isn’t about the quantity. It’s about getting that 1 special gift he knows they would love. The Christmas Magic helps reinforce the giving nature of Christmas rather than the greedy side.

Who doesn’t know the story of The Nutcracker and the Mouse King? Originally written in 1816 by E.T.A. Hoffmann, it’s a story of a young girl who family is given a nutcracker as a gift. Upon it getting damaged she takes charge to care for it. During the night she falls in love with the nutcracker and is then whisked away into an enchanted land of toys where they are trying to defeat the Mouse King. This edition is closely based on the original with captivating illustrations from Gail de Marken. Forever a classic, The Nutcracker and the Mouse King is a story every child should have.

Mama Doni-Funky Music with a Jewish Twist

Chanukah lasts only eight days, and Doni Zasloff Thomas, aka MAMA DONI, says, “Enjoy!” The popular singer/songwriter expands the horizons of traditional Jewish music, with a contagious and unexpected blend of reggae, rock, disco, Latin, klezmer and “Jewgrass” – all woven together with a hip Jewish sensibility. In Chanukah Fever, MAMA DONI spices these eclectic, colorful elements with a razor-sharp, sophisticated humor that makes latkes, dreidels and Yiddish expressions cooler than ever.

I’m not Jewish so when I was sent a sneak peek CD of Chanukah Fever I wasn’t sure if it was something I would enjoy let alone understand the humor. I do have a Jewish friend though so I gave it to her. She came back that day and said it was great; it had her laughing all the way to work. The different styles of music made it entertaining with songs like The Funky Gold Menorah.

THE MAMA DONI BAND came away with one of the top prizes at the 2008 International Jewish Music Festival, held in Amsterdam, competing against more than 100 ensembles from 15 countries. At the Festival’s invitation, they will return to Amsterdam to perform and lead workshops in October 2009. I Love Chanukah! was named one of the Top 10 Chanukah Music for Kids albums of 2008 by About.com. Recognized in The New York Times, New York Post, The Star-Ledger, The Record, Time Out New York Kids, New Jersey Jewish News, The Jewish Week, and Jewish Woman International Magazine, THE MAMA DONI BAND is delighting families throughout the country.

MAMA DONI, a resident of Montclair, New Jersey, hopes that her music will add some Jewish flavor to the lives of people everywhere. She speaks with great passion about preserving the priceless Yiddish and Jewish spirit by imbuing it with a contemporary vibe that connects to life in our times.

Chanukah Fever will be available at CDBaby.com, MamaDoni.com, itunes, and at Mama Doni concerts.
