Kaijudo: Rise of the Duel Masters

Recently I was asked to have a viewing party for Kaijudo: Rise of the Duel Masters and as soon as I did a little research I knew this was a show that Shaun would love to check out.

Kaijudo: Rise of the Duel Masters” is an animated action-fantasy series that follows the adventures of a young hero, Ray, who possesses the rare ability to befriend and duel alongside fantastical creatures from a parallel dimension. Evil forces would have these creatures tamed and enslaved, so Ray and his two best friends must join the ranks of the mysterious Duel Masters to ensure the survival of both races before it’s too late.

We were sent the first two episodes to view and Shaun was excited to invite a few friends from the neighborhood over to have some pizza and chips and watch Kaijudo.  Everyone even got their own Kaijudo headband to wear during the party.

All of the kids really enjoyed Kaijudo and a lot of them said they were going to ask their parents to set it up on the DVR so that they didn’t miss any episodes. We set Kaijudo up for Shaun as well because like I mentioned this is a show that Shaun really enjoyed watching.

Here is a trailer for Kaijudo: Rise of the Duel Masters:

If you or someone you know is into animated action-fantasy then you are going to want to check out Kaijudo for sure.

Kaijudo: Rise of the Duel Masters airs on Saturday’s at 8pm on The Hub TV network so be sure to check it out for yourself, you won’t be disappointed.

Shae Has Expensive Scientific Taste

Last week I overhauled our fish tank and gave it a really good cleaning then filled it will all new fish. Our tank was in need of a do over.

Once the tank was overhauled we headed to the fish store and I let Sabreena, Shaun and Shae each pick a type of fish that they wanted to put into our fish tank. Sabreena chose two angel fish, Shaun selected two platies and Shae chose GloFish. I really don’t care about the cost of the fish and it’s only funny because Sabreena’s fish were maybe $3-$4 each and the same goes for Shaun’s fish but Miss Shae on the other hand selected fish that were $9.99 per fish and they live best in sets of at least 3.

The red, yellow and orange fish at the top are Shae's GloFish

After I saw they were $9.99 I asked the guy at the fish store why they seemed so expensive since they are kind of a small fish and I was told because they are the ONLY fish that are patented. GloFish were originally bred to help detect environmental pollutants. By adding a natural fluorescence gene to the fish, scientists hope to one day quickly and easily determine when a waterway is contaminated.

So not only did Shae choose a fish that was the most expensive out of the bunch but she also selected one that has a scientific purpose.

Video Games Brought Shaun and Sabreena Closer

The other day I was on Facebook and heard someone mention a game called Skyrim.  I have heard about the game but didn’t know a lot about it so I asked Shaun and Sabreena did they know anything about this game.  The reason I even asked about this video game in the first place was because I was thinking maybe with all of my free time I would try a new video game to pass the time.  Funny thing is Sabreena did know about the game because a lot of her friends play it and talk about it all of the time but Shaun knew nothing.  The game is rated M for mature so maybe that is why Shaun knew nothing.

Sabreena then asked me could we rent the game because she really wanted to give the game a try so I checked a few Redbox Kiosks and found one with the game.  Now the second Shaun hears Redbox and games he wants to play as well but like I mentioned this game was rated M for mature so I need to be 100% what I was allowing him to play.  I told him I would need to watch Sabreena play the game first to see if this was something he could try.  After watching Sabreena play Skyrim I decided this was ok for Shaun to play so they began playing together.

Saturday night and most of the day Sunday Shaun and Sabreena each took turns playing Skyrim together.  Melinda and I were getting slightly annoyed because all they were doing was talking non-stop while playing the game but Sunday night I told Melinda this wasn’t necessarily a bad thing because Shaun and Sabreena were spending time together hanging, talking and playing a game together and they weren’t arguing (not a lot anyway, LOL).  Not that they never talk or spend time together but it was kind of nice watching them sit on the couch together helping each other in the game.  When Shaun would get stuck in the game he would ask his big sister to bail him out which she was happy to do.

I am glad I rented Skyrim for them this weekend because it was really cool to see them spend time with each other!!!!

Would You Rock or Kick?

Christmas is exactly three weeks away so if you still need an awesome gift for your child or for a child on your list consider a Rockboard Scooter. We recently received a Rockboard Scooter for review and to me it might be one of the best scooters we have ever owned.

To me what makes the Rockboard Scooter a unique scooter is the propulsion which is achieved with each rock, wasting zero energy and allowing the scooter to reach speeds up to 10mph. The Rockboard Scooter has two ways it can be used, Rock Mode and Kick Mode. Rock mode is where after take off all you need to do is rock back and fourth to propel the scooter. If you want to go old school you can use kick mode where you use you feet to move the scooter.

The Rockboard Scooter takes less then a minute to unfold and is pretty easy to do which means most kids can do it themselves without a parents help. Having the ability to fold the scooter after use is great also because it allows you to store it when not in use.

The Rockboard Scooter comes in two different models so just about any kid can own one of these awesome scooters. The two models are Orginial for children ages 8 and up with a weight limit up to 200 lbs and Mini for children 5 and up with a weight limit of 90 lbs. Either model can be purchased at stores like Toys R Us, Target and Amazon.com.

Keep You Dam Hands Off My Kid!!!!

Why do kids walk around and think that it is ok to lay their hands on other kids? Do they learn this behavior at home from their parents? Do their parents hit each other? Do their parents hit other people for no reason? I need to assume yes to this question because to me there is no other explanation for this kind of behavior.

This post is coming to you due to a situation that happened today at a 9 years olds birthday party. Shaun was invited to a classmate’s party today at his house where they had a bounce house for the kids. As a parent I understand the rough nature of a bounce house and horse play will happen when you get 6-7 boys in a confined area but to me that doesn’t mean it is ok for you to hit other kids because you were bumped into. Today Shaun was pushed into another kid and we are not sure if by accident or on purpose but the kid who Shaun bumped into though a proper response was to punch Shaun in the face. Really, a punch in the face was really necessary because you we bumped and knocked down? This same kid also kicked Shaun in the privates on two other occasions for the same situation happening. How about asking what happened and realizing that it was an accident and people get knocked down in bounce houses and continue to play not use physical force.

Now I have a problem with this on so many levels but my first question is where the hell were the parents and why were the father or mother not posted outside of the bounce house like they were on military patrol? These are by the way crazy and hyper 8 and 9 year olds who need to be monitored the whole time they are in the bounce house. Second thing why when I pick up Shaun does the mother tell me “we had a bad day today”. What the hell does that mean? To me that meant she had a house full of hyper boys who raised hell not that another kid punched my kid in the face and kicked him in the privates while acting like nothing happened. I didn’t get the full story from Shaun until we were almost home and let me tell you I was PISSED beyond belief. I know some of you are going to ask why I didn’t stay with him but I know when we had Shaun’s party back in March parents didn’t stay. They left a contact number in case there was a problem and went about their way and assumed Melinda and I were responsible enough adults to handle their kids which we were and we did with no incident. I left my phone number so I have no clue why the mother didn’t call me to let me know Shaun was punched, kicked or whatever she thought happened. Oh yeah, I forgot she didn’t know because she wasn’t outside with the kids!!!!! IDIOT!!!!!

I know Shaun should have told an adult to call us but Shaun like most kids didn’t want to leave the party so he didn’t have the mother call us but the mother should have realized this was a situation that needed some attention. HELLO here people my son was assaulted and no one felt that is was important enough to address. Now I know I don’t have the FULL story but the parents should have asked questions when Shaun came out crying needing ice for his face. To me asking additional question would be the normal response from an adult so they know what is going on.

My first response was to tell Shaun next time someone messes with him to kick their ass but these days it isn’t that simple. Kids get expelled from school, cops are called plus that would mean Shaun was acting just like they were which isn’t teaching him anything. I am not sure what the right answer here is but Shaun wants to be friends with everyone and play I am not sure why others kids treat him like crap but Melinda and I trying to teach him to stand up for himself and no play with kids who are bullies and mean to others.

Any thoughts on this?

A Big Boys Room

Shaun is a big boy. I’m not talking about his size (but yes he’s tall) I’m saying he’s not a baby anymore. It recently became time for him to get a bedroom that reflected his growing interests and personality. Beyond Bedding provided new bedding and we bought a new bed and gave him a mini makeover.

When I showed him his pattern options he instantly pointed out sports theme bedding. Hs previous bedding was sports but this new set was a bit more mature. What I did like about the set was the bed skirt. It wasn’t girly and allowed us to continue to utilize the space for storage without looking sloppy or messy. When the set arrived we washed it before using it. This softened up the sham and comforter but also shifted the batting inside. It ended up being more lumpy than I liked but the color stayed true and the stitching remained intact and it didn’t get pilly. As you can see in the picture the comforter doesn’t quite reach the bottom of the mattress. One thing I hate is having sheets show especially when they don’t match.

The bedding set came with a valance but Shaun has 2 windows so we aren’t using it. I think I might be able to put together some throw pillows with it; I just need some smaller pillow forms to start with.

Recently Beyond Bedding added a Custom Bedding option to their already extensive collection of baby, teen and adult options. Select your size, item, color, trim and pattern to create a bedroom that reflects exactly what you envision for a perfect sleeping haven.

Shaun’s First Taste Of Youth Football

This Wasn't Shaun's camp but it sort of looked like this

Yesterday Shaun wrapped up a 3 day football camp and in my opinion for his first time ever playing organized football I think he did pretty well.

The first day of camp the kids rotated to 4 different stations: Quarterback, Running Back, Wide Receiver and Offensive/Defense Lineman. The second and third day the kids selected what position they thought they may want to play once the season starts and then they went to that station for the day. Shaun selected the offensive/defensive station (with a little push from me) and did really well. I attended camp on Tuesday to watch Shaun and for this being Shaun’s first time at this position he got right into the correct stance and did really well at blocking and exploding off of the ball.

Shaun did complain a little that he wanted to go to the wide receiver station but after me explaining to him he needs a little more work on his hands and catching he sort of agreed that maybe this year wasn’t the right time for him to go out for a wide receiver position. I think if I work with Shaun over the summer and through out the season he may be able to go out for a wide receiver next season but if I have it my way he will stay at the offensive/defensive position. Those are the positions that I played in high school and I feel Shaun could really excel there if he gives it a 110%.

It is too early to tell how Shaun will do this season but if he listens to me and we work on a few things I think he will have an awesome first season. The one thing he REALLY needs to work on is his emotions. Right now he is still a little sensitive and cried a few times at camp when kids yelled at him for making a mistake but as time goes on hopefully he will just let that stuff roll of his back and not let it affect him mentally or emotionally. Only time will tell and we have been practicing because practice starts full time beginning July 31st.

Wish us luck!!!!
