Natural Remedies for Headaches and Anxiety

woman

Anxiety and headaches are fairly common among people these days. If not treated properly, they can take a toll on our health. It is not the best option to take an aspirin every time we get a headache. Moreover, if you are reading this article, chances are that you still haven’t found an effective remedy for your headaches. I personally feel that natural ingredients work wonders compared to pharmaceutical products. Use these six natural home remedies to help reduce your headaches and alleviate anxiety.

1. Almonds

Eating almonds is an effective way to ease headaches. Salicin is an anti-inflammatory agent that is produced from the willow bark. This salicin works in the same way as an aspirin to cure headaches. Almonds also contain a high level of magnesium that helps relax the muscles; thereby alleviating anxiety and headaches. It has been proved that eating 10 almonds is the equivalent to taking two aspirins to cure a headache.

2. Ice

Headaches are caused due to dilated blood vessels in the head. In order to ease the tension, wrap some ice in a cloth and apply it to your forehead and the back of your neck.

3. Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple Cider Vinegar is extremely beneficial for our health; whether to help lose weight or to miraculously clear acne. What most people do not know is that it also works wonders in curing headaches. There are three different ways in which you can use apple cider vinegar to help alleviate headaches.

a. Add 4 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar to a glass of warm water. Stir well, and drink it.
b. Do steam inhalation by adding apple cider vinegar to hot water in a vaporizer.
c. Mix apple cider vinegar with warm water. Soak a cloth in this mixture, and apply it to your head to ease your headache.

4. CBD Oil

CBD oil is a natural by-product of hemp (which is 100% legal in the United States). CBD oils have many therapeutic benefits, including pain relief, anxiety reduction and the reduction of inflammation. CBD oil can be ingested orally or I can be inhaled, by using a vape pen. You can also use a dab rig, which provides the added benefit of water filtration. A hangover IV Chicago is another alternative way to alleviate headache symptoms, whether or not you have a hangover. The combination of vitamins and hydration work to detox your body and help improve symptoms.

5. Lavender Lemonade

Lavender has been known to help alleviate anxiety and ease a terrible headache. Lavender essential oil has a calm and soothing scent and is used extensively in aromatherapy. It has the ability to reduce stress levels, cleanse the scalp, improve blood circulation and get rid of migraines. Try out this wonderful DIY Lavender Lemonade recipe to get rid of your headache in no time.

Ingredients:

• 1 drop of Lavender essential oil
• Juice of 6 lemons
• 12 cups water
• 1 cup honey

Directions: Mix all the ingredients together and chill before serving.

6. DIY ointment for headache

This is an amazing homemade version of the common ointments we get at the drug store to cure headaches which usually have a horrible smell! This DIY ointment uses essential oils that are known to instantly calm and relax your body. This ointment is extremely effective to help ease headaches, and leaves us feeling refreshed and happy. To make your own DIY ointment you can check this list of essential oils.

Ingredients:

• Coconut oil
• Peppermint essential oil
• Lavender essential oil
• Container for storing the ointment

Directions: Microwave the coconut oil until it melts completely. Add the peppermint essential oil and the lavender essential oil depending on how strong you want the smell to be. Stir well and store in the container. Refrigerate in order to solidify the ointment.

7. Cayenne pepper tea

Cayenne pepper is known to provide relief from headaches. Substance P is a neurotransmitter that helps send pain signals. Without this neurotransmitter, pain signals cannot be sent. Cayenne Peppers contain capsaicin, which helps alleviate headaches by depleting Substance P. Mix ½ teaspoon of cayenne pepper with a glass of warm water and drink it slowly to help reduce the headache.

Preparing your Child for School the Right Way

Child prepare for school

Starting school is a crucial time in our children’s lives. They will start to enter a new environment to learn what they will need later in life, discovering new routines, new social circles, emotional and learning skills and many other things.

Indeed, the first five years of life are vital to any child’s lifelong development. The early development of a child influences brain development, establishing the crucial neural connections that will provide the foundation for language, problem-solving, reasoning, social skills, problem-solving, emotional health or behavior.

It is therefore of utmost importance for us to develop our children’s potentials and skills to learn during this crucial phase before finding a Montessori in Singapore to enroll them in.

But what is school readiness in a nutshell?

School readiness is comprised of two stages: a readiness to start learning and readiness for school/ School readiness can be measured by how prepared a child is to become part of a formal learning institution.

Australian international school in Singapore relies heavily on the expertise of its teaching faculty and world-class infrastructure to help children get used to the new learning environment. This is why when you send your children to the best educational institutions, they become more confident about themselves and this reflects in their personality.

While no single factor can determine whether a child can take on the tools of a school, it will depend on both the emotional maturity as well as scholastic ability. It is also split into different phases and, although these areas are separate, they interact with and reinforce each other. Your child will need to develop across all the areas.

The areas that let you measure your child’s school readiness include:

Physical and motor development. Fine motor skills include being comfortable using a pair of scissors, using cutleries, and successfully doing buttons and zips. Gross motor includes running, standing on one leg, and skipping. Perception development deals with both auditory and visual skills. The child should be able to go to the toilet unassisted.

Emotional and social development. Emotionally-adjusted children have better chances of early school success. Getting along with peers include interacting within a group or shows an interest in dealing with other children. They can also express feelings and needs, share stuff, sit still for a while, avoid frustration and stay on a task for a reasonable time.

Cognitive development. The child can make independent decisions as well as follow through. They can formulate ideas of their own and follow simple instructions or directions. They can also find interest in learning.

Language capability. The child should be able to communicate in his or her home language. They should also know to start sequencing stories the right way based on a set of events.

Emotional maturity. Being emotionally mature includes being independent, having reasonable control over emotions, having basic problem-solving skills, responsibility, confidence, etc.

School readiness shouldn’t be used to discriminate against some children. Quite the reverse, it is a way to provide all children with an equal opportunity in life. If you think that your child is ready for school, then the next step is to choose the best Montessori Singapore has to offer. Also, enrolling your child in a top international school will allow him or her to adjust faster and have the best education during the formative years. Best of luck!

When to Hire a Traffic Ticket Lawyer

Personal injury lawyer

One traffic stop might seem insignificant until you consider all the consequences. It’s not just the fine you pay for violating the law for speeding or running a red light, but the increase in insurance, points on your license, a license suspension and possible court costs. When should you hire a traffic ticket attorney in Sacramento?

What to Consider Before Fighting a Traffic Ticket

Traffic ticket attorneys specialize in moving violations. Your lawyer will work to reduce the penalties or to even dismiss the ticket altogether. This could mean getting points dismissed or eliminating the fines. If you have points on your driving record already, this could help you avoid a license suspension.

If you’re very young or very old, it can extremely worthwhile to fight a traffic ticket because just one ticket can cause a significant increase to your insurance premiums. No matter what your age group, you should take into account how a traffic ticket will affect your insurance rate and for how long.

People who receive a second traffic ticket should be concerned about insurance premiums. A second ticket on your record could increase your rates up to 20 percent or more for three to five years. That’s a significant expense.

When your livelihood depends on driving, it can be worthwhile to hire a traffic ticket attorney to fight the ticket. A traffic ticket could jeopardize your career if you have a commercial’s driver license or do a lot of driving for your job.

Hiring a Traffic Ticket Lawyer

When you need an attorney for driving with a suspended license or a red-light lawyer, get a local lawyer who knows the rules in your area. Make sure your attorney has experience in fighting traffic tickets in court and always get their success rate. The Ticket Clinic has an 80 percent success rate, 30 years of experience in the business and local offices. Contact us for a free consultation.

Healthy Snacks for Kids

dessert

For a growing child, it is important that they get enough nutrients to grow and remain healthy. Kids love to have potato fries and Cola when they are hungry, but not only do these lack any nutrients, but they are also really bad for them. At the same time, serving the little ones a bowl of celery and hummus as a snack just because it is ‘healthy’ is not the best option. Kids want their food to taste good, and look good. Given below is a list of healthy snacks for children that are not only loaded with nutrients, but also packed with flavor!

1. Fruit Ice Pops

All the store-brought fruit popsicles have no health benefits; they are loaded with artificial flavoring, preservatives and sugar. Making these homemade fruit pops are so healthy, and don’t compromise on taste!

Ingredients:

• ½ cup sliced strawberries
• ½ cup sliced banana
• ¼ cup yoghurt
• 1/3 cup spinach or kale
• ½ tsp vanilla extract
• 2 tbsp pure maple syrup

Directions:

Combine everything in a blender, along with ice. Pour into Popsicle molds, insert sticks and freeze for 2-3 hours before serving.

2. Baked Sweet Potato Fries

This is a lovely alternative to the fried potato chips that kids cannot stay away from! Potatoes aren’t rich in nutrients, and fried food is not good for health. A good alternative to the popular fries are these baked sweet potato fries. Sweet potatoes are extremely nutritious vegetables that are high in fiber and vitamins A, C, E and B6.

Ingredients:

• 4 small sweet potatoes
• 2 tbsp olive oil
• 1 ½ tsp kosher salt

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 425˚F. Cut the sweet potatoes into one-inch wedges. Place them on a lined baking tray and drizzle the olive oil over it. Top the potatoes with the salt, before baking it in the oven for 20-25 minutes. Season the potatoes with more salt, before serving it with some ketchup or a healthy homemade dip.

3. Healthy PB & J Sandwich

Kids love a classic peanut butter and jelly sandwich! Who can blame then? The salty peanut butter and the strawberry jam, sandwiched between two slices of bread, is the perfect combination to get your kids super excited! However, this combination is also extremely unhealthy. That being said, we cannot deprive our kids from eating it or it would crush their little hearts! Instead, here is a super healthy alternative that still manages to retain the taste of the original PB & J Sandwich. Also, its good to recommended protein powders for children.

Ingredients:

• 2 slices of whole wheat bread/multi grain bread
• 2 Tbsp Fresh Strawberry Preserve ( that have chunks of fruit in them and less sugar)
• 1 Tbsp Organic Peanut butter/ homemade peanut butter

Directions:

Spread the peanut butter and jam on both slices and put them together. Enjoy!

4. Rainbow Kabobs

Children love eating food that looks good. Serving them a whole apple or banana every day will probably bore them. These rainbow kabobs are so pretty to hold, and are packed with nutrients from different fruits like strawberries, oranges, mangoes, grapes, kiwi and pineapple!

Ingredients:

• Fruits cut into chunks (Strawberries, Oranges, Mango, Grapes, Kiwi and Pineapple)
• Skewers

Directions:

Arrange one chunk at a time on the skewer until you have one piece of each fruit on a skewer. Feel free to use other fruits like bananas and blueberries too!

Ingredients:

• Rice Cakes
• Nut Butter (Organic Peanut Butter, Almond Butter, etc.)

Ingredients:

• Homemade strawberry/grapes juice –2 cup
• Unflavored Gelatin – 2 packets
• Honey/ Stevia/ Maple Syrup – 1 tbsp

Directions:

Pour ½ cup of the juice in a bowl and add the unflavored gelatin to it. Boil the remaining juice and pour it over the mixture of juice and gelatin. While stirring, add the honey/ stevia/ maple syrup to give it the perfect sweetness. Pour the mixture into a square container and chill until firm (4 or 5 hours). Cut the jelly into cubes before serving.

7. Mid-day Ice cream

Ice creams are every little child’s favorite! However, store brought ice creams use artificial flavors and a lot of sugar, which are not good for the kids! Instead of depriving your children of their favorite dessert, why not serve them this healthy delicious alternative instead? This snack tastes just like ice cream. Greek Yoghurt and fresh berries are packed with nutrients, and your kids are bound to love it!

Ingredients:

• Greek Yoghurt – 3 cups
• Fresh Blueberries
• Fresh Strawberries
• Natural Maple Syrup

Directions:

Top the Greek yoghurt with fresh berries and drizzle with natural maple syrup.

8. Big-5

Children love smoothies, but buying them the store bought tetra packed smoothies will deprive them of nutrients required by their growing body. This homemade smoothie is so easy to make, and extremely good for health. The bonus ingredient is spinach; a vegetable most kids hate. The flavor of the fresh fruits and sweet maple syrup will cover up the taste of the leafy vegetable, making this a healthy and delicious drink for your little one!

Ingredients:

• 1 cup of strawberries
• 1 Kiwi
• 1 Banana
• 1 cup pineapple chunks
• Handful of spinach
• Honey/ Natural Maple Syrup for extra sweetness

Directions:

Blend all the ingredients in a food processor. Add some ice, and serve cold.

Cutting Ties – How to Make a Clean Break With Your Old Home

Home setup

Moving house? Yikes, that’s big news! Did you that moving house is up there next to losing a job, starting a new job, or even losing a loved one in terms of stress? There’s so much to do and plan, the very least of which is packing up your whole life, putting it in a truck and driving across town to a brand new house. It can seem a bit overwhelming at first, which is why we’ve taken the time to write this helpful blog. So, read on to learn how to cut ties and make a clean break with your old home.

Book Your Removalists Early On

We can’t stress this enough. There is nothing that could be worse than trying to book removalists a few weeks prior to your move only to find that there’s no one available and you’re left with the choice of hiring a truck and calling in favours to friends and family or relying on some dodgy bloke named Gary who’s got a van and a Gumtree advertisement.

As soon as you know you’re moving, as soon as the contract is signed, or the lease is finalised, book your Sydney removalists. As soon as you’ve done that, start saving. Moving a whole house worth of furniture and belongings can cost up to $2000, so you want some money in the bank or some limit on your credit card when the big day comes.

A Word About Utilities

You’re going to want to arrange for the disconnection at your old place and the connection at your new place early on in the piece too. Make a list. Water, gas, power, internet, phone and anything else that you can think of. Most companies can arrange the disconnection and connection in the same call.

While you’re at it, it may be time to shop around for a new deal. Utilities are one area of your life where loyalty definitely doesn’t pay so compare the market and you may save hundreds a year.

Finally, it’s worth making the new connection date a day or two before you officially move in. This is to allow time for any error on the companies past. You don’t want to move into a place with no power, gas, or, god forbid, WiFi.

Cutting Ties

Moving out of a place where you’ve lived for years can be emotional, especially if you’ve raised kids or built strong memories there. You may find yourself tearing up or getting angry for no good reason. It’s perfectly normal, so don’t stress. It may be worth reminding yourself that you’re embarking on a new chapter of your life in a brand new location and that you’ll soon have the opportunity to build some brand new memories to keep for the rest of your life.

It may be worth holding a goodbye ritual. This could be as simple as a house-cooling party with all your friends and loved ones or as complicated as writing a farewell letter to your old home and burning or burying it. Ritualising the goodbye can help you to sever ties.

To Conclude

There you have it. Remember to book your removalists early on to avoid stress closer to the move and begin saving for the cost of moving. Disconnect and arrange connections of your utilities and shop around for a better deal. Make sure that you properly cut ties with your old pace as well. This could take the form of a house-cooling or a goodbye ritual. And get ready for the next big stage as you move on to bigger and better things.

Home Organization’s Best Friend: Storage Vaults

Storage Vault

But wait, isn’t the whole premise of home organizing being able to store your possessions in your house as neatly and space-efficiently as possible? You wouldn’t be wrong if you championed that premise. And a lot of times, you’re going to want to avoid investing in a storage unit because #frugalmom.

But you’ll be surprised at how much stress a storage vault can actually get off of your shoulders. For one, you’re not going to have to painstakingly try to fit all your things in your house the way you would a 10 thousand-piece jigsaw puzzle. And then there’s the option to move your possessions between your home and your storage unit as you deem fit.

But these aren’t the only ways that investing in a storage vault helps you keep your home organized. With a bit of creativity and practicality, you can make the most of your storage vault.

As we’ve previously surmised, a storage vault allows you to move your possessions on a whim. This may sound more whimsical than practical, until you factor in the seasons of the year. Take clothes and curtains for instance — each season has a corresponding set of clothes and decorations. You could store your winter clothes in your unit during summer and vice versa.

This isn’t limited to clothing and decorations. Basically any item that you use for a specific season of the year can be stored in your unit when it isn’t needed. This means that your home has more living space than storage space. And this also gives a better overall space to organize because you aren’t tripping over storage boxes that would otherwise be lying around all year.

But this isn’t a pill for every ill. You have to consider that there are limits to what you can do with a storage unit. For one, you can’t store anything that would pose any potential harm to the public, including firearms and chemicals. Illicit substances are also forbidden — this might as well go without saying.

It’s also important to note that a storage unit should be treated more as a supplement to the solution of a problem, not the solution itself. Nothing beats hands-on home organization. And if you’re simply going to dump your things into your unit, then you’re simply sweeping dust under the rug.

Self-control is also imperative when you’re renting a storage vault. Some people have the unhealthy habit of hoarding. The inability to determine things that aren’t important from those that are — and to dispose of the unimportant things — is a serious problem which can also lead to mental health risks.

But that’s about the extent of the minimal risks of using a storage unit. It’s really more of a matter of self-discipline and foresight. And once you’re able to get over these risks, you’ll find that you’re able to free up so much more space than you would have thought possible.

Screen Rules At Home For my Child and Me

books
When we were children, our parents just had the one screen to worry about, if even that! The television screen, a modest square box, was all the distraction I had all through my childhood. Imagine the plight of this generation’s parents! There’s the television, of course, which has proven to be the least of our concerns. We have now moved on to further worries of laptops, smartphones, tablets..!! And we are supposed to keep our kids away from all of that..? Knowing kids, a herculean task it is!! Yet, it must be done.

Kids of today are practically born digital!! They know just what the TV is for, they know how to swipe a phone. They know how to dial a number or bring up their favorite videos. And this, I am talking of the little ones. Go one step higher and they are probably way above your digital capabilities! By the time they reach high school, they are demanding a smart phone. The internet becomes their buddy. After-school group chats are the in-thing. And by the time they are out of school, they are already making promises keeping up on the social media!

One mustn’t expect children of this age to be as technologically illiterate as we were when small. This is the age of digitization. This is the post internet-boom era! These have brought about significant changes in the way we live! And where the parents have been digitized, can the children be far behind? Where parents are suffering from the ill effects of screen time already, will the children be far behind? There are just SO many side effects of all these technologies and gadgets we use. Obesity, eye problems, problems in the wrist and fingers, exposure to radiation are just a few. For children, the negatives go beyond the physical. Over use of technology can have serious mental and social repercussions on them . There’s so much information out there, you never know when your child stumbles on something not meant for their age. With so many search engines finding results in milli seconds, kids no longer want to exercise their minds finding answers, stunting their originality. With time, children learn that it is okay to be socially disconnected while being lost in the online world, just as their parents do. Can we blame the children then?

In their formative years, kids learn the most from their parents. What they see around them, they absorb. Their habits of later years begin with our habits at home. So when they see their parents hooked on to their phones at all times of the day, busily checking mails and messages and answering calls, why would they want to do any different? As parents, we have a huge responsibility. The responsibility to step back when we want our children to step back too.

Here are some simple ways to make sure your child doesn’t take an over dose of screen time!
Set Rules on Screen Time! The first important step you need to take is set strict rules on the number of hours of screen time allowed in the house. And that should include you. Keep track of when your child begins watching TV or accessing the internet and make sure you make them stop when time’s up. And more importantly, make sure you don’t break the rules in front of your children at any cost!

Meal Times Strict No-No! Phones must be a strict no –no at meal times. This time must be enjoyed as a family event where stories of the day are exchanged, advices are given and taken. Small habits such as these can shape a child’s understanding of the importance of family bonding.

Give them the attention they deserve!! Little children often feel sidelined and unimportant when their parents unknowingly ignore them while taking that really important call or quickly responding to a message. Understand that they notice and get disappointed. These very children then become rebellious teenagers who refuse to follow your screen time rules! Remember, you have a big role to play in who your child becomes. And often these tiny habits of yours can have huge impacts on your children’s emotions.

Engage with your children! Children often have a lot of share when they are small. As they grow, teenagers tend to become quiet, often sharing with their friends more than family. Setting family traditions right at an early age can help parents overcome this. Set aside a few hours every day for family time when you have a little family game or probably make family dinner together. With such awesome parents around, kids wouldn’t even want extra screen time!

Monitor your child’s screen time! There are loads of online worlds available just a click away! While some of them can help in your child’s mental development immensely, some others can have a significant negative influence on them mentally and emotionally. Keep an eye on what your child does online or even watches on TV. Use the many apps available today that give you parental control on which sites they can access, how much time the device can be on for! Use technology to beat technology! While spying on them isn’t the idea, maintain friendly relations with them so they see your concern behind your actions.

Encourage Social Engagement! Make your child see beyond the online world. Children today are content keeping in touch over social media. Even when they meet, all of them get busy with phones in hands. The little ones as well prefer video and phone games to physical activities. Encourage them to meet, interact, talk, play. Explain how it is important to stay physically fit and that nothing can replace a conversation in fresh air!

Talk to them! Teenagers can be difficult to enforce rules on, especially if they see their peers having no screen rules at home! Sit down and explain why the rules are in place and make them see that you follow them too. Sometimes, you would be surprised how readily they understand your concern.

Start Early! Try to start with these habits when your children are still small. That way, they are used to finding things other than phones and laptops to keep themselves busy and do not resent the sudden changes in their interests.

All parents dream of their children becoming ideal humans, caring, giving, intelligent, with no trace of bad habits. But what very few parents keep in mind is that what your child becomes is who you are in their formative years. They learn so much from you. Remember, you are their ideal human for many many years. Your habits can have much more significant impact on them than any other external factor. So take the reins in your hands now! Be the person you want your child to be!

How to Keep your Kids Occupied During the Summer

Kids lesson

We all know that a bored child is a mischievous child. I know this not only because I’m a mother, but I also remember my parents tell myself and my siblings off for causing mischief.

When school is out for summer, you’ll often find parents over the globe looking for things that will keep their kids occupied. The good news is there are plenty of activities that could help to prevent your children from getting bored, you just have to know what they are. This article explores what you can do throughout the summer to keep your little ones occupied.

Send your Children to Summer Camp

Many parents and carers tend to send their children to summer camp. Not only does summer camp keep your kids busy and entertained, but it can also be a great place for them to learn new skills. Of course, if you cannot afford summer camp or you simply don’t want to send your children away every summer, there are other options.

Enjoy a Vacation Together

If you would like to offer your child the best vacation ever, then I can wholeheartedly recommend going on a family trip to Universal Studios. When I took my children there a few years ago they simply loved every moment of it. However, there are many other destinations that you may want to consider visiting. For example, going camping with your children is a lot of fun, as is hiring an RV and making your way across the country.

Wherever you decide to go, make sure you plan to let your kids have fun. Take them somewhere exciting for the day such as a theme park, take them fishing, walk around museums and art galleries, and make sure they have a great time.

Visit Family Together

During the summer you are likely to find yourself with a lot of free time on your hands. This is when travelling across the country and visiting family can help. Why not book a two-week vacation to see your relatives so your kids can play with their cousins? Explore the local area while you’re visiting family, and enjoy a few activities together.

Take your Children to the Park

Unless you have a park that’s on your doorstep, you may want to think about taking your children to the park. Spend at least a few hours there two to three times a week and let them blow off steam. Kids tend to love spending time at the park, it lets them run riot for a few hours, and they can have a lot of fun with their friends.

As you can see, you can keep your kids occupied during the summer, meaning you won’t have to put up with arguments, mischievousness, and upset children. Make sure you and your kids plan to have a lot of fun this summer so you can all have a great time, no matter where you are or what you’re doing.
