The world is a very pretentious place. We are everything, but ourselves. From Instagram filters to fake nails, from wearing uncomfortable high heels to keeping up with the cigarette smoke, from hiding behind mushy comfort zones to locking up our emotions. We’ve built these walls, covering up our flaws, trying to play safe, and over time suffocating ourselves as those walls push us to the edges.  But why have we built these walls? What is blocking you from seeing your true reflection? Why do you do things you know you don’t like? Do you want to impress someone? Are you embarrassed that no one likes the real you? Do you want to fit in? How would you define yourself in your own terms? Who are you really?

When you look at a sunset, you don’t find yourself suggesting corrections. You can’t control a sunset. Each morning it’s different. You just sit there, with an overwhelming feeling of reverence. People are the same as sunsets; everyone is different, yet beautiful in their own way.

Have you looked at your face in the morning, right after you’ve woken up? It has bizarre glow. That tells you what you actually are. The scars, freckles, moles, tattoos, birthmarks, are all exposed. These are evidence, reminding you that you have lived, you’ve grown and maybe you’ve fallen down a few times, but you haven’t given up, because you are still there looking into the mirror, before you are ashamed of all that truth and you decide to cover it all up with makeup. If you are ashamed to face yourself every day, you are not living it right.

Cultivate yourself. Just be yourself. You are not what you pretend; you are much more than that. You are different, you have your own cracks, and that how your inner lights comes out, blinding the whole world with your glow. You are talented, you are powerful, you are beautiful. You are enough.

Strip away all the filters that is hiding the raw you. Come out of your skin, and don’t let anyone try to put you back in. Dance, even when the world is stepping on your feet. Like a dandelion, lose your mind into the wind, and scatter into a thousand seeds. Break free of the chains that keep to inside the four walls. Your grief would become a window, when you would be able to see what you couldn’t before, through a glass of your most battered dream.

Opposites Attract: 4 Ways to Help Your New Puppy and Adult Cat Bond

Your home is just an extension of your kitty’s kingdom… at least, that’s how your feline friend sees it. Your adult cat is used to being the star of the show, whether he or she loves lounging on the arm of the sofa, climbing up their cat tree or jumping out of boxes and bags to “scare” everyone else in the family.

Here are four ways to help your new puppy and adult cat bond when you’re ready to test the “opposites attract” theory in your own home.

Start with Scents

Before you allow your new puppy and your resident cat to see each other face to face, get them used to one another’s scents. Start by bringing your new canine companion into a designated room with a closing door while giving your adult cat control over the rest of the house. Keeping a door between them for safety, allow these two pets to smell and hear the other. You can even place an article of clothing containing the puppy’s scent outside the room and something smelling like your cat in the puppy’s playroom.

Make Slow, Careful Introductions

Now it’s time to bring sight into the equation. Using a barrier (like a baby gate) and a leash for your puppy, introduce your animals into communal space to see how they react. You’ll want to have a handful of treats on hand to reward your puppy for engaging in curious, calm and restrained behaviors around the cat. Make sure that both your pets have distinct eating, sleeping and recreation areas so they have fewer reasons to clash.

Before you bring home your new bundle of fur, you’ll want to pick up the essentials: dog beds on sale (to create a few sleeping areas throughout the house), food and water bowls and chew toys. Likewise, you’ll want to make sure your cat has its own food and beverage bowls out of your dog’s reach, plus a few places to perch up high for security. Your kitty will also need a place to sharpen her claws—one that isn’t your poor puppy’s muzzle!

All in all, it’s important to create distinct dining, sleeping and relaxing areas for each pet. This way, they both have a claim on their part of your home and nobody feels left out. It will also discourage meandering, whether it’s your puppy getting a little too curious about the litter box or your cat deciding to sample your dog’s food.

Positive reinforcement is key when it comes to introducing cats and dogs. Your actions will teach your dog how to interact with your other pets, which is why you should reward obedience like sitting, lying down and coming when called during introductions. It’s tempting to punish bad behavior, but this builds negative associations in your pooch’s mind about being around your cat, which may spike anxiety or frustration. Fun DIY Projects to Treat Your Dog

You don’t have to be über-crafty to whip up treats and toys your dog will adore. Follow these guidelines for quick, easy, and effective rainy-day solutions, brought to you by Rover.com.

#1. No-Bake Eggy Delights

Raw eggs are great sources of amino acids and lots of vitamins. And did you know that the calcium in the shell is great for your dog’s bones and teeth? Be sure to select organic eggs, preferably farm-raised if you can find them. Carefully wash the outside of the egg to guard against salmonella and other bacteria.

You’ll need:

2 eggs

1 cup shredded carrots

8 oz. canned pumpkin

Mix all ingredients, including eggshells, in a bowl. If the pumpkin is watery, add more carrots or an extra egg, or simply drain away the liquid at the top of the can. Serve the full bowl to your pup directly as a hefty afternoon snack or shape into balls and chill in the refrigerator. Share treats as desired, but don’t try to store them overnight–these are meant to be eaten within 12 hours.

#2. Tough-Enough Rope

Here’s a fun accessory for backyard tug-of-war: Tear or cut an old towel lengthwise into 9 even strips. Braid each set of 3 together, knotting lightly at each end for a temporary hold. Then braid all 3 braids together, taping or knotting one end to hold it in place. Create big, tight knots to hold each end in place (loosening the smaller knots first if it helps). Bonus? Use two color-contrasting towels to create two of toys with more pop.

If the towel is too big or thick, cut thinner strips, or roll each strip into a narrower shape for braiding.

#3. Doggy Box

If you have a small pet, you might find an appropriately-sized wooden crate up for grabs in a grocery store. For bigger dogs, use a metal dog crate with the front door removed or go old-school with a large cardboard box.

First, cover the back and sides with an old sheet. Use hot glue to keep it in place in a crate or cardboard box, or thread ribbon ties through all the corners on a metal crate. Then, fold an old blanket over a few times to fully cover the base. Seal the base up to 3” around the sides with a duct-taped trash bag and top with a puppy pad if incontinence is an issue. Otherwise, simply make sure the blanket is clean and dry each time your pet uses the box.

For an added effect, you can build a curtain from leftover parts of the sheet to cover the front, and tie back with ribbon hot-glued to each side. Your dog will love having a space of their own that’s covered and shaded! Maybe now you won’t find your pup chewing your shoes in the closet anymore… and you can fill the box with stuffed animals, chew toys, and other doggy delights for quiet downtime.
