That Time Emeril Tweeted Me

Yeah THAT Emeril, Emeril Lagasse of Food TV fame. I posted a review the other day about a purchase we made of his Emerilware cookware.  It was a mostly positive review and it fed out to my Twitter account. He picked it up.

The kids and I were sitting at the kitchen table just finishing dinner when I took a peek at Twitter.  I gave a strange audible “WHAAAT” and Sabreena looked at me. Then I squealed out loud.  “Dude, Emeril just tweeted me”, I yelled to Sabreena. She giggled then I giggled.  Rob walked in moments later and he didn’t believe me. I handed him my phone.

AND I took a screen shot as proof.  Not a word about it being his PR firm or assistant or some other Joe Schmo maintaining his Twitter Account.  Don’t burst my bubble! I’ve loved Emeril since his the old old episodes of The Essence of Emeril back in mid to late 90’s. I was an early Food TV watcher. It’s from him I learned to say cinanananamon.

Jonah Hill is now a Head Turner

I’ve been a Jonah Hill fan for many years. My favorite role of his by far is Seth from Superbad. I would quote the movie but the language is so far from appropriate.  Anyway, have you seen Jonah Hill lately?  He’s pretty damn good-looking.  I typically don’t post celebrity news or updates; mainly because I don’t care about celebrities personal lives or platforms but this picture of him looking good in a tux really took me by surpise.  He’s really cute and those eyes are gorgeous.  They say he’s lost the weight for an upcoming role on 21 Jumpstreet.  Can’t wait to see it. Jonah Hill is one of those actors that I won’t miss a film they’re starring in.

Good for you Jonah, hope this new svelte self lands you some really great dramatic and romantic roles.

Potatoes with Sausage and Ricotta #Recipe with Fabio

(Photo via Newscom)There’s a reason he won Fan Favorite on Season 5 of Top Chef. Chef Fabio Viviani has a warm and welcoming presence that shines through his adorable smile and exuberant personality. Of course his cooking talent is what got him through to the final four on Bravo TV’s competition series.
Years of cooking experience and testing and tasting products makes him a bit of an authority on ingredients and tools to use in the kitchen. Bertolli Olive Oil is one brand that he endorses. I’m happy to say I’m a Bertolli user too even though I’m far from the talented chef that he is. I was given the opportunity to review Fabio’s iPad app Let’s Cook. This app offers over 100 handpicked recipes from Fabio himself, step by step instructions in 16 cooking demos, video tips and tricks to make the everyday cook, like me, a bit more confident and successful in the kitchen and much more.

Let's Cook home page

recipes

I used the app, the provided Bertollii Extra Virgin Olive Oil and recipes cards to create a new but really delicious meal for my family last week. While I didn’t follow the recipe 100% I used it as a guide, incorporating ingredients we had on hand, methods I preferred and adjustments to measurements.

Sausage and Ricotta Stuffed PotatoesRoasted Baby Potatoes with Sausage and Ricotta

  • 16 baby Yukon potatoes (recipe called for reds)
  • ½ cup of Bertolli Classico Olive Oil (recipe called for 1 cup)
  • 2 TBLS fresh chopped rosemary (recipe called for 1 cup)
  • 2TBLS fresh chopped thyme (recipe called for 1 cup sage)
  • 8 oz ground cooked sausage
  • 8 oz ricotta cheese
  • 4 oz Parmesan cheese

Preheat oven 450 degrees
Boil potatoes till just tender, remove from water let slightly cool. Halve then scoop out some potato insides to create cup. In a bowl combine sausage, ricotta cheese, parmesan cheese and salt and pepper if needed. In another bowl add oil and herbs and gently coat potato cups then place on baking sheet.

Fill each potato with sausage and cheese mixture and bake for 8-12 minutes till bubbly and brown.
We enjoyed with fresh steamed broccoli and spinach salad. The meal was really really tasty, everyone ate without a peep and all but Shae had seconds. Next time I will make more so there are leftovers for lunch the next day.

baby potatoes with sausage and ricotta

According to the recipe card this meal makes 8 servings, Prep Time is 15 minutes and Cook Time is 15 minutes. Not in my world. This got made in over 1 ½ hours. Potatoes were boiled then set aside. Sausage was cooked then aside. Herbs were picked and chopped then set aside. This is the way I usually have to cook especially with kids and dog running around and others things going on. This WILL be made again and adjusted to try something new. Maybe bigger potatoes, maybe some cooked spinach, maybe cannellini beans. I see lots of possibilities and I think that’s the way people are supposed to cook. There was a big difference in the Bertolli provided recipe cards and the recipe listed on the app.

Let’s Cook is a really entertaining and informative app especially if you learn better by watching than by reading. Fabio Viviani is fun to watch and yeah not to bad to look at either. Oh and it’s only $.99, can’t beat that! I wish he had a video for pizza dough. Better yet I’d love a visit from him to teach me how to properly make homemade dough, sauté scallops and cook fish.

Bertolli wants a LookWhatMomFound… and Dad too! reader to improve their own cooking skills and win a bottle of Bertolli Extra Vergin Olive Oil. Let me know what meal or technique you’d like to learn from Fabio.

Get Gorgeous Hair with WEN Hair Care Kit Giveaway

Infomercials suck me in. I can’t help it; I’m just like my dad. There is one that I’ve watched recently and thought this could really work for Sabreena. WEN is a cleaning lotion for your hair created by celebrity stylist Chaz Dean. It seems like all celebrities have something to peddle and people jump on the bandwagon to get glamorous results. I feel slightly different about WEN.

WEN® Cleansing Conditioner is a revolutionary new concept in hair care. A 5-in-1 formula, this one product takes the place of your shampoo, conditioner, deep conditioner, detangler and leave-in conditioner. It cleanses hair thoroughly but without lathering and all the harsh ingredients that may be found in ordinary shampoos—it is designed so it won’t strip your hair and scalp of their natural oils. Your hair is left with sheen, moisture, manageability and better color retention.

Many years ago when the makeover shows were in their infancy I remember watching this stylist talk about the harsh chemicals and detergents in commercial shampoos that can damage and strip color from your hair. He then went on to cleanse and style a woman’s hair using his very own products. It was Chaz Dean. There was something about what he said that stuck with me all this time. I use a natural ingredient cleansing bar and tried to get Sabreena to use one too but our hair is very very different. Mine is short and razored to feel thinner, no extra conditioning needs; hers is long and as thick as a horse’s tail. All of these natural alternatives weren’t giving her the soft, tangle-free, shiny results I wanted.

I was contacted by Gunthy Renker to try out WEN and I flipped. Here was the product that changed my way of shampooing years ago. I knew this was what Sabreena needed. The products came and that very night she used them. The next morning I looked at her messy bedhead and noticed it wasn’t as big and knotty looking. In fact it looking like she had curled her hair then fell asleep on the curls. Sabreena isn’t a good candidate for before and after pics because she doesn’t blow dry her hair at night and she’s gone before I even get out of my bedroom each morning. I have noticed her say recently “I like the way my hair looks today”. She’s getting more defined waves and curls and less frizz. Out of Sabreena’s own mouth, “I really like the Replenishing Treatment mist; no more frizz or flyaways, it works fabulously.

flat, frizzy and CURLED hair before using WEN

way less flyaways and softer natural waves and curls after 3 weeks using WEN

It’s been less than a month we’ve been using WEN Cleansing Conditioner and it’s almost gone. The instructions say to start with 10ish pumps, Sabreena uses about 15, that’s a lot of product. It isn’t the most cost effective product since it’s only lasting about 3 weeks but for less than $30 I see it as a decent investment. Sabreena spends a lot of time on her hair and if the only thing she uses is a cleanser and skips the styling products then it’s worth it for me.

Gunthy Renker is giving LookWhatMomFound…and Dad too! readers the chance to win a WEN kit from Chaz Dean Studios. Let me know how you hope this product will help your hair or change your routine.

I don’t care what Kim, Jennifer or Lebron buys

I love a good movie or train-wreck of a reality show like the next person but I could give a flying finger what Kim Kardashian or Queen Latifah are pedaling. A celebrity endorsement is as useful as teets on bull. Do I really look at Drew Barrymore and say “I gotta get me some CoverGirl Lashblast mascara because if she uses it, it must work”, ummm NO. I look at these commercials and ads and wonder how is this relevant to my life. What makes their word so important? Why do they get multi-million dollar contracts and bloggers get squat. Yeah Yeah I know, bloggers get PAID or COMPENSATED by providing some ad space, text links or opinions but nowhere near what they deserve. The time spent using, tasting, wearing, riding and playing a review item along with photo editing, writing, posting and other technical duties can easily take hours and hours to complete.
I get my recommendations from real people by searching online for opinions, reviews and reputable blogs before making some family purchases. This is how most real people make buying decisions. The celebrity endorsement is lost on me and according to BlogHer 2011 Social Media Matters Study that seems to be the consensus with female shoppers. “There is a definite trend we’ve seen where people trust the opinion of a regular person, we trust any person force more than any corporate force when it comes to getting advice and recommendations,” Elisa Camahort Page, co-founder and COO of BlogHer told FOX411’s Pop Tarts column.

Who do you believe?
