Thank Goodness For Technology

This is Sabreena’s first year of high school and she is in all honors classes. I do not think she realizes how different HS is from middle school. Teachers don’t hand hold in HS and I’m afraid she thinks they do and will.

The HS Sabreena goes to has a website where parents can review everything that is going on in school like, grades, attendance, classwork, homework, etc (school has come a long way since I attended). Last night I decided to take a peek and thankfully I did. I must admit I freaked out a little, ok fine a lot!!!!!!

In a few of her classes she was missing work and we are only 3 weeks into school. For two of the classes they said she failed to turn in a signed copy of the class syllabus. That is the easiest 100% ever to get because all you need to do is bring it home and have it signed and return it. Not sure why this is happening but I emailed the teachers last night. One teacher said if she brings a new one in signed she will get a 100% for it. The other teacher said he gave extra point if it was handed in on time and she did hand it in but late so not sure how much credit she will get for it. Going to need to follow up on this one.

I reminded Sabreena that teachers aren’t going to accept late work and most of her teachers said they won’t when we attended open house last week. They don’t care if you did it, forgot it or if the dog ate it. If it isn’t turned in on time no grade and no make up grade either. I told her she needed to be on top of things and make sure her work is getting done and handed in on time. Sabreena is extremely smart but not very organized so I think we might need to get her some kind of planner.

Hopefully this is just because HS is new to her otherwise this is going to be a long school year. Wish us luck. LOL.

We Must Starve Our Kids!

This morning about 10 minutes before I was about to leave for work I hear Shae coming down the steps.  It was 6:20 a.m. and this is a little early for her to be up (Usually).  She was upset that I needed to leave for work and that Sabreena needed to go to school.  After I cuddled her for a few minutes and we went to say bye to Sabreena Shae then asked could she eat breakfast. LOL.

Why do kids (At least mine) ask for breakfast the second they wake up?  On the weekends Shaun will wake up and come into my room and wake me up and ask can we go downstairs and as soon as we are downstairs he asks for breakfast.  Shae will do the same thing. Why? Do we starve them?  Are their bellies so empty when they wake up it is hard to function?  I don’t think so because they are always asking for something to eat and most of the time we let them eat unless they are asking to eat right after they eat which they have done before and will have to do a post on that one day. LOL.

I am not sure why they do this but it drives me crazy.  Don’t get me wrong I usually need coffee when I wake up but don’t eat breakfast right away.  I like to wake up and get ready before I eat breakfast but not my kids.

Are you or your kids like this?  Do they or you need to eat as soon as you wake up? We would love to hear your thoughts.

Day With Shae

Yesterday Melinda’s Mom and Dad took Shaun and Sabreena to the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire so Melinda, Shae and I got to hang for the day. Melinda went out with her sister early in the morning but when she got home we headed out to grab some breakfast. Shae was a little grouchy because she wanted to go to the park first but calmed down and was excited when we got to the restaurant and was able to get some pancakes.

My Breakfast Hoagie (Scrapple, Egg and Cheese)

After breakfast we headed to the park where we all had a blast. We had so much fun Shae actually boycotted leaving and was running away from Melinda because she didn’t want to leave the playground. After the playground we ran a few errands then headed home. She watched some Scooby Doo until she passed out and took a little nap. We had dinner late and around 8pm Sabreena and Shaun came home from there day at the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire where they said they has an awesome time.

So everyone seemed to have a great day but it was really nice just hanging with Shae for the day. Need to do the same with Sabreena and Shaun soon.

Costumes4Less $50 GC Giveaway-CLOSED

Shae immediately knew what she wanted to be for Halloween. From the first time I asked her she said Velma. Yes, Velma from Scooby Doo. You see, Shae is a Scooby Doo fanatic, just like the other kids were. Costumes4less offered us the chance to review their service and pick out a childrens costume, we picked VELMA obviously.

Ordering was easy and within a few hours we received our shipping information. Delivery was made in just a couple business days too. The Velma costume wasn’t expensive so we were able to get her a pirate costume also. She loves to play dress-up so this is just going into her custom wardrobe along with her brothers from his Halloween a couple years ago. They can now both walk around the house and yell ARGH!

Costumes aren’t just for Halloween or just for kids. Theme parties, dress-up and theater performances are some other occasions where costumes come in handy throughout the year. Costumes4Less.com is a place to shop for brand name halloween costumes, wigs, accessories, Mascot costumes, pet costumes and everything in between.

Visit Costumes4Less and tell me what costume(s) your children want to be for Halloween. This is your chance to win a $50 GC.

Take a Picture and Win a Trip to the Superbowl from Canon

Canon U.S.A., Inc, a leader in digital imaging, and the Pro Football Hall of Fame are looking for the best youth football photos from across America. Football fans are encouraged to pick up a camera this season and show their passion for the sport through photography by entering the sixth annual “Why Do You Love Football?” photo challenge.

The nationwide amateur photo contest is divided into two divisions, Adults ages 18 and over and Teens 13-17, and consists of two categories. The category Action focuses on any image that captures football action during game play and Feature comprises any football imagery outside of game action. The winning photographer in both divisions will have the opportunity to attend Super Bowl XLV in North Texas and receive a trip to the  2011 Pro FootballHall of Fame Enshrinement Celebration. The winning photos will be displayed in the Pro Football Hall of Fame for one year.

Fans are invited to enter up to 10 of their best youth football photos from September 2, 2010, to December 1, 2010, by visiting www.usa.canon.com/nfl and following the online entry instructions.

A judging panel consisting of: Archie Manning, former NFL quarterback and father of two Super Bowl MVP quarterbacks; Peter Read Miller, Canon Explorer of Light and Sports Illustrated photographer; and other prominent staff photographers and photo editors will determine the group of 14 finalists in each division. Once the field is narrowed, fans will make the final call by voting for their favorite photo from December 20, 2010 until January 7, 2011, via the contest website listed above, with the Grand Prize winners being announced in early January.

“Year after year I look forward to see how fans portray their passion for the game of football through their photography,” said former NFL quarterback Archie Manning. “Each year the photos entered in the contest get better and better and I am looking forward to see what this year’s will produce.”

Melinda Called It Sabotage

Yesterday morning Melinda was making eggs and went to use the pepper grinder and when she picked it up this happened:
Funny thing is I just used it to make my eggs.  She called it sabotage which means she thinks I set her up. LOL. To me I call it the pepper grinder just doesn’t like her.

**UPDATE – After writing this post we found out that Sabreena had been using the pepper grinder and thought she needed to turn the bottom to grind the pepper when in fact she was losing the cover where you filled it.  It was just chance that all of the peppercorns fell out when Melinda used it and not me.  Melinda has since apologized and I am expecting everyone who commented on this post who didn’t believe me to do the same. LOL.**

Are Your Kids Like This

So yesterday morning I was playing Leap Frog Bingo with Shae and she won the first game so she wanted to play another game.  The second game I won and this is where it began.  She told me she wanted to win and started to pout.  Shae then asked to play a third time and against my better judgement I palyed and won again and again she pouted and said she wanted to win.  Why do kids do this? LOL.

Kids are sore sports sometimes and don’t like to lose but I think all kids are like this (I hope so anyway for my kids sake).  I can remember Sabreena now 14 crying when she didn’t win a game and then would refuse to play anymore.  Shaun was the same way as Sabreena.  Shae is a little more tame. Shae will pout and whine a little bit will play again.  She is probably hoping to win so she can rub it in my face.  When Shae wins she like to tell me she is a winner and I’m a loser.  LOL.

Are your kids like this when playing games or is it just mine?

Olive Barn for Garden Shopping and Wind Chime Giveaway-CLOSED

Music soothes the savage beast. It can at least bring some peace and calm to a stressful or hectic day. This is what my Music of the Spheres Soprano Chimes do for me. Sitting on my deck with the wind blowing, sun shining, drink in hand and the soothing musical sounds are a great way to wind down at the end of the week.

“These are professional grade, hand tuned wind chimes that are built to last. The sleek design of black, powder-coated, aluminum alloy tubing make these chimes outstanding in both sound quality and visual appeal. They are the only brand we carry at Olive Barn because no other brand meets the industry standards for tonal quality, sustain and durability. Best of all, these are made right here in the USA. Handcrafted in Austin, Texas by the talented artisans at Music of the Spheres®, Inc.”

I was given the opportunity another great item from Olive Barn. With a shop full of unique and eco-conscious garden goodies I was ecstatic when I opened up my Gypsy tuned wind chimes. We had the perfect spot near the sliding glass doors so that they can be heard inside also. Being on the end unit and having a field behind us gives us these great winds throughout the day. We are constantly being serenaded by the dingdong sounds.

A few weeks back Shaun and I were admiring wind chimes at a local shop and we realized we didn’t like the “tinkling” sounds that come from the smaller, lesser quality instruments. He picked out a wind chime very similar to the one received from Olive Barn. We ended up not purchasing it due to other purchases made that day. He’s very excited about having one now; he knows it makes his mommy happy.

Whether it’s a beautiful set of wind chimes or striking sun-catchers or seeds and bulbs for the garden Olive Barn has a mix of practical and indulgent gifts for yourself and others. Being a “green” business is also very important. Using only eco-friendly shipping materials whenever possible helps them make a positive impact on the world we all live in. They like this planet and they want to keep it around for as long as possible.

Shopping is fun and exciting at Olive Barn but winning is even better. Win Music of the Spheres Soprano Wind Chimes for yourself. Listen to the available tunings and tell me which you prefer.
