Life Is About To Get Real Hectic Around Here

Life is going to be getting extremely hectic starting this Friday with Shaun’s Blue and Gold dinner for Cub Scouts then my birthday on Saturday. Also, on Saturday morning I have a 9:30am breakfast meeting with a few guys to discuss the football league and sign ups in April. The following weekend we need to take Sabreena to the dentist in Maryland.

Starting in April Shaun and Shae will be playing soccer which is every Saturday. The first Saturday in April Shaun has a soccer game and is in the District Pine Wood Derby the very same day. The following weekend is football sign ups for Shaun and he also has a soccer game. I will be helping during the football sign ups since I am going to be the head coach of his team starting in August. The following weekend we are going to a Philadelphia Wings Lacrosse game at the Wells Fargo Center in Philly. Me, Melinda and the kids are going to Reviewers Retreat at Great Wolf Lodge in the Poconos in May. Soccer ends some time in June then I need to work with Shaun for the upcoming football season which starts in August.

Once August hits forget about it. There is football practice four nights a week and then the game on Saturday. Since I am the head coach I will be at every practice and game. Now that I am thinking about all of this stuff the list doesn’t even include Shaun’s Cub Scout meeting that takes place every Monday. Man life suddenly got extremely hectic but the kids will enjoy all of these activities and sports so it will totally be worth all of the running around that is going to be involved. Pray for me. LOL.

Project 52 – Week 11

Welcome to my 11th edition of Project 52, an attempt to capture our lives in a couple pictures once a week.

project 52, weekly photos
This week was a quiet one, the weather was rainy a couple day and we didn’t have any big plans. We stayed close to home except for dinner last night.  Well here’s a glimpse into our what we had going on this week.

Trying To Start A Family Tradition

Melinda and I have talked many times about trying to start some kind of tradition that the kids will remember when they become adults.

For me as a kid I can remember the whole family going to Taco Bell every Friday night. For Melinda is was her Pop Pop coming over every weekend to work on the house and bringing over a box of Dunkin Donuts.

So our tradition might be going to Cici’s Pizza every week or so.  They have pretty good pizza and pasta and an arcade that Shaun and Shae loved.  We do pizza at home every Friday which is a tradition but we are trying to start one outside of the house.  The kids tend to act like fools any time we go out to eat so Melinda and I were hesitant on going last night but all in all they were really good.  Shaun complained a little about wanting to play more games but that was all.  Next time I will be sure to bring some more cash so the kids can play a few more games.

Does your family have any weekly, bi weekly or monthly traditions?

Despite Their Age!

I don’t care what my kids say they are close and love each other to death even thought they seem to argue, bicker and fight frequently.

This picture is from a few weeks ago but since that night Shaun and Shae ask to have a sleep over almost every night. They had one over the weekend and another one last night.  I have no idea why they want to sleep on the floor when they have perfectly comfortable twin beds but who am I to tell them what surface they should sleep on.   All I can assume is that they love each other and like spending time together.  Funny thing was last night Melinda asked if I remembered Sabreena and Shaun having sleep overs when Shaun was Shae’s age.  I do and it is funny Shaun and Shae are now having them.

Yes Sabreena gets tired of Shaun and Shae and Shaun drives Sabreena nuts and fights with Shae and Shae annoys both Sabreena and Shaun but at the end of the day I know they love each other and are there for each other.  When I see Sabreena playing and hugging Shaun and Shae it wants to make me cry because it shows me what kind of kids Melinda and I raised.  Loving ones who hopefully as they become adults and move through the world will still have a close bond that siblings should have no matter what.

Project 52 – Week 10

Welcome to my 10th edition of Project 52, an attempt to capture our lives in a couple pictures once a week.

Another busy week in the LWMF…and Dad too household.  Shae and I worked on some crafts along with GummyLump’s 300 crafts for kids program.  We used lots of glue and introduced cutting with scissors.  Rob, the kids and I hit up Philadelphia’s Please Touch Museum, lots and lots of fun.  Not pictured here but Shaun had his Pinewood Derby race, he came in 2nd and is headed to District finals!  Are you participating in Project 52?  Leave your link and we’ll come visit.

Healthier Winter with GermGuardian

The dry winter air wrecks havoc on my family. The kids wake up with chapped cheeks and cracked lips and cough that produce nothing. Recently Rob and I have been waking up with dry scratchy throats no amount of water can soothe. For years the kids have slept with humidifiers to ease the weather induced sawdust air and keep the sickness away. Usually Rob and I just suffered through it, until now.

Germ Guardian sent us their 55-Hour Ultrasonic Humidifier to review. Since the kids already have similar quality humidifiers in their rooms we thought it would benefit us to try it for US. To start off Rob liked that there was no added cost involved for filters or silver sticks. Both brands we currently use both require one if not both replacement parts throughout a season. The variable mist controls lets us adjust the humidity level in our room. This is good since we keep it directly next to the bed, it doesn’t have to be cranked up high.

The warm and cool mist option is perfect for a nursery. That croupy barky cough that many children get during the winter responds really well with a cool mist humidifier; it helps to alleviate bronchial swelling.

I’ve been waking up with less dryness in my sinuses and throat; so it’s working. Rob has noticed an improvement in his sleep also. Invest in a Germ Guardian ultrasonic humidifier for the winter, your body will thank you.

Project 52 – Week 9

Welcome to 9th week of Project 52; my attempt to capture our lives in a couple pictures each week.

AGAIN, I forgot to post my Project52 update.  At least it’s still early enough in the day to get it up and not feel guilty forgetting LOL

I posted earlier this week about some home improvements I wanted to make throughout the house.  We’ve made a huge dent in a couple things on the list.  Our living room now has a more sophisticated, adult feel. We replaced our comfy but ugly sofas with a sleek and modern leather couch.  Also our bedroom is slowly turning into a mini retreat that I so crave. We have a headboard again!!!!! I’m excited about this the most. Oh and a shot of Shae, just because.

much more our style now

Project 52 – Week 8

Welcome to my 7th installment of Project 52, my attempt to capture life in a couple pictures once a week rather than each day.

I can’t believe I almost forgot to post this week’s post. Actually I did forget about the post until Rob mentioned it a few minutes.  This week was busy too. I had a whole day with both my little nieces, we went to the Circus and the weather was gorgeous one day so we spent it outside. Enjoy!

I’ll Miss You

A good friend of my parents as well as mine passed this week at the age of around 67. He was on the list to receive a liver but never made it.

This saddens me greatly because he took me under his wing when I was growing up. When I was about 13-14 years old I use to go to work with him over the summer. He was a truck driver who hauled steel locally and owed his own rig. He taught me responsibility and how to be a man when I wasn’t exactly the nicest kid to be around.  Even as I grew up and had a family we would still see each other at my parents church and he got to meet and get to know Melinda and our kids.

He was a funny man and was always busting my balls while we were on the road.  He taught me a lot of stuff about life while on the road and I am going to miss him.

I love you George! Rest In Peace!

Tonight at 6pm is the viewing and the memorial service isright after at 8pm.  Tonight is going to be tough.

We are headed in the right direction

We finally had our meeting with Shaun’s teachers, filled out some evaluation papers and met with the doctor.

Shaun indeed has ADD(no surprise). Thankfully there are no other issues to deal with such as violent or aggressive tendencies or an inability to learn. His teachers sung his praises about his intelligence and eagerness to participate and how sweet he is. The problems are his lack of focus, careless mistakes and following through on tasks. We have those same challenges at home along with emotional outbursts; crying.

We’ve started him on medication on Sunday. I hope to see some improvements by week’s end.   Along with his medications we need to work on some behavior management. Unfortunately we are a yelling family; we know we need to change this but especially more now. A month ago we just thought he was being a pain in the ass but now that we understand better what is going on we can handle it much better. I’m just happy to  know my boy isn’t broken.

Thank you everyone for your kind words, support and well wishes. We will keep you all updated with the progress, challenges and changes going on.
